The Luxemburg-Casco Spartans rallied early to keep it close but could not stop the Seymour Thunder on Monday night, falling 79-38 at home.

The Spartans were down 12-0 in the first three minutes but went on an 11-4 run to cut the lead to 14-11 halfway through the first half.

Seymour then responded with a 26-10 run to finish the half, including a half-court banked-in shot by Jordan Krause with .4 seconds left to give the Thunder a commanding 41-20 lead at intermission.

The Spartans fought hard in the second half but were outscored 39-17 as Kyler Marks poured in a game-high 26 points for Seymour (7-2).

Jacob Coisman paced the Spartans with 10 points, and Eli Derene added seven points in the loss.

Luxemburg-Casco (2-6, 1-3 in the NEC) will now play Denmark at home on Friday night as they return to conference play.  The pregame will start at 7 p.m. on 104.1 WRLU, with tip-off scheduled shortly after the completion of the girls' L-C Denmark game, which will begin at 6 p.m. Paul Schmitt and Eric Fischer will have the call. 

The Luxemburg-Casco Spartans will look to close out the 2024 year and holiday break with a win over the Seymour Thunder in non-conference boys’ basketball action.

The Spartans (2-5, 1-3 in the NEC) are coming off a 45-34 win over Green Bay Southwest  Saturday night at the Sandrop Classic in Green Bay. 

Seymour (6-2, 1-2 in Bay Conference) beat Brillion 67-43 Friday afternoon in the same holiday tournament.

Luxemburg-Casco is led by Josh Parins and Eli Derenne who are each averaging seven points per game, while JD Glampe and Bryce Piesler are chipping in six  points per contest.

Spartan Co-Coach Matt Piesler says the team is starting to come together during the holiday break.

Kyler Marks is averaging 20 points per game to lead Seymour. Three other players are scoring in double figures for the Thunder: Isaac Feske, 13, Jordan Krause, 12, and Teage Cornell, 11. 

The pregame is set for 7:00 p.m., with tip-off at 7:15 p.m. on 104.1 WRLU and streamed on NEW Radio Sports Network. Paul Schmitt and Eric Fischer will have the call from Luxemburg-Casco High School.

The Luxemburg-Casco girls basketball team could not catch the Menasha Blue Jays on Saturday, losing the non-conference game 53-47.

After being held in check during the first half, Sienna Blohowiak burst through with 14 of her team-high 18 points coming after the break. Brianna Bray was similar, scoring nine of her 13 points in the second half. Maggie DeBaker kept things in check for the first half for the Spartans, drilling three three-pointers for nine first-half points. 

Blakelee Bastien went south of the Cheddar Curtain to hit 150 wins in his career after going 6-0 at The FLAVIN' Tournament in DeKalb, Ill.

Bastien, Carson Neubert, and Carson Blohowiak all went perfect on the weekend, including 3-0 in duals that saw the Spartans beat Rochelle (Ill.) 53-22, fall to Aurora (Ill.) West  47-24, and top Carol Stream (Ill.) Glenbard West 41-31. That was good enough to take 2nd place in Pool A and post a 4-2 dual record on the weekend.

The Spartans lost to Frankfort, Ill.'s Lincoln-Way East 40-39 before beating fellow Wisconsin squad Pewaukee 56-19. They officially took fifth place in the Wayne Miller bracket with a 46-20 victory over Oswego (Ill.). Caleb Salentine, Carson Neubert, Carson Blohowiak, Blakelee Bastien, and Joseph Jeanquart went a perfect 3-0 on the day. Day two begins at 8 a.m.

Carson Neubert was the lone placewinner in the main tournament as he went 7-1 on the weekend to take third place overall. He captured the medal with a decision over Aiden Hahn (Farmington).

Wrestlers that didn't stay in the main tournament after Friday entered the "Hard Luck" Bracket. That saw Joseph Jeanquart and Ethan Werner take second place and Mason Boulanger capture third place.

A little home cooking helped the Luxemburg-Casco Lady Spartans come away with a 49-47 win on Friday night in North Eastern Conference play.

Holding a narrow 27-25 lead at halftime, the Spartans hung on for the two-point win.

The Spartans were led by Brianna Bray, who scored 19 points, including four three-pointers and 5/6 from the free-throw line. Sienna Blohowiak added 12 points, and Erin Cherovsky tallied eight points.

Eden Last paced the Foxes with 21 points.

The Luxemburg-Casco Spartans won the battle of LCs in Little Chute, downing the Mustangs 67-24.

The Spartans jumped to a 28-11 lead in the first half and cruised to the easy win.

Brianna Bray led the Spartans with 16 points, Erin Cherovsky added 13, and Sienna Blohowiak chipped in 11 points.

Miranda Kirchner paced the Mustangs with ten points.

Luxemburg-Casco improved to 3-4 overall and 3-1 in the NEC, trailing only undefeated Freedom who is 4-0.

The Spartans will take on Fox Valley Lutheran on Friday night at home.

The Luxemburg-Casco Spartans could not contain a potent Little Chute Mustang offense and its stingy defense Tuesday night falling 75-34 in the North Eastern Conference’s “Battle of the LCs".

The Spartans played tough early, staying with the Mustangs and trailing only 8-3 in the first five minutes before Little Chute amplified the defense and forced numerous turnovers, resulting in easy transition baskets.

Little Chute took a 35-11 lead into halftime and kept the pressure on throughout the second half cruising to their third conference win of the season

Luxemburg-Casco was led by Jacob Coisman with nine points and Josh Parins contributed eight each.  Bryce Piesler added to three-pointers for six points.

Nolan Jakubek paced the Mustangs with 16 points with all twelve players scoring in the game for Little Chute.

The Spartans will now travel to Fox Valley Lutheran in North Eastern Conference action Thursday.

The next broadcast on 104.1 WRLU will be on Monday, December 30, when the Spartans host the Seymour Thunder. The pregame is set for 7:00 p.m., with tip-off at 7:15 p.m. on NEW Radio Sports Network.  

The Luxemburg-Casco Spartans will host the Little Chute Mustangs on Tuesday night in the battle of the L-Cs with the rivalry trophy at stake.  The Mustangs are preseason favorites to challenge for the North Eastern Conference.

The Spartans (1-2, 1-4) want to bounce back from a five-point 57-52 road loss to the Clintonville Truckers Friday night.

Little Chute (2-0, 3-1 overall) is coming off a win over Wausau East 78-64 last Saturday.

Spartan Co-Coaches Matt Piesler and Mitchell Jandrin took over last week after Logan Vander Velden abruptly resigned.  

Coach Piesler says Little Chute will present a big challenge to his squad.

The Spartans lost to Oconto Falls at home 65-45 on Tuesday and will play at Clintonville on Friday night.

The Luxemburg-Casco girls basketball team took a 40-13 lead into the locker room and kept the pedal down as they beat Clintonville 70-27 Thursday night in Luxemburg.

The Spartans hit six three-pointers in the game with Brianna Bray, Alanna Mrotek, and Sienna Blohowiak each hitting two of them. Erin Cherovsky did her damage inside the arc as she led the team with 14 points while Bray and Blohowiak each chipped in a dozen. The Truckers were led by Morgan Retzlaff, Claire Panedorf, and Abby Tate with five points. 

The Luxemburg-Casco wrestling team scored bonus points in six of their 12 contested matches on Thursday night, beating Denmark 45-20 on the road.

The two teams traded forfeits in the lighter weights before winning six straight matches in the middle weights. Joseph Jeanquart recorded the lone pine while Carson Neubert and Blakelee Bastien registered technical falls.

The Spartans are back in action on Saturday at the Battle on the Bay hosted by Bay Port in Suamico.

After wrestling in a pair of multi-team duals last week, Luxemburg-Casco will only have to worry about one squad on Thursday night when they face Denmark.

The Spartans swept a quad meet at Green Bay Preble before going 2-3 in a home multi-team meet last Thursday. In Saturday's action, Joseph Jeanquart,and Carson Neubert went 5-0 on the day while Carson Blohowiak and Blakelee Bastien went 4-1. The Vikings swept their duals in Kewaunee (77-6 vs. Kewaunee, 72-10 vs. Southern Door) last Thursday while sweeping their matches in Kiel two days later. They have scored at least 62 points in six of their seven duals this season.

The Luxemburg-Casco Girls could not overcome a hot-shooting Ashwaubenon Jaguar team Tuesday night, falling 66-41 in non-conference action.

The Jags jumped to a 43-23 lead in the first half and never looked back.

Brianna Bray, Maggie DeBaker, and Sienna Blohowiak paced the Spartans with eight points a piece.

Gianna Guarascio led Ashwaubenon with 17 points.

The Spartans (1-4) will host the Clintonville Truckers on Thursday night in a NEC matchup. 

The Luxemburg- Casco wrestling team won two of its five matches on Saturday during its home duals featuring teams from around the state.

The Spartans started the day by beating Sheboygan Falls 78-0 and Oshkosh West 38-33 before losing its duals to Weyauwega-Fremont 36-31, Port Washington 39-36, and Bay Port 51-20. Joseph Jeanquart, Blakelee Bastien, and Carson Neubert went 5-0 on the day.

Jakayla Steinhorst picked up two pins in her first tournament to win the 100-pound weight class. Kiley Georgel registered three pins en route to her first-place finish at 185 pounds. In between, Evelyn Lange picked up three wins on the day, including her final to take fifth at 145 pounds.

The Luxemburg-Casco girls basketball team could not overcome a first-half deficit in its 54-51 loss to Oconto Falls on Friday night.

Trailing 24-20 at the break, the Spartans outscored the Panthers 31-30 after the break, but they could not complete the comeback. Rylie Shallow was a thorn in the side for the Spartans as she led the Panthers with 28 points. Ella Jahnke chipped in another 11 points. Brianna Bray paced the Spartans with 22 points, and Sienna Blohowiak registered another 12 points in the loss.

The Luxemburg-Casco Spartan will renew an old rivalry Saturday evening when they travel to Southern Door to take on the Eagles.

The Spartans (1-1) are coming off a 62-48 win over the Marinette Marines on the road Thursday night, while the Eagles (1-0) opened their season on Thursday with a convincing 88-59 win over the Peshtigo Bulldogs.  Drew Daoust poured in 33 points while Lauden Berg and Tyler Neinas added 17 and 14 points, respectively.

Luxemburg-Casco is 1-0 in the North Eastern Conference and looks to knock off the Eagles, a team they played in the old Packerland Conference and play yearly in non-conference matchups.

Last year, Southern Door defeated the Spartans 82-48 on the road.

Seniors Landon Derenne, JD Glampe, Reagan Doell, Matt Koss, and Josh Parins hope to carry the Spartans this season and provide some offensive punch to the Spartan attack.

The pregame is set for 6:45 p.m., with tip-off at 7 p.m. on 104.1 WRLU and streamed on NEW Radio Sports Network. Paul Schmitt and Jacob Nate will have the call from Eagle Gym.

The defending Division 2 state wrestling champions got off to a strong start in Green Bay Thursday night as Luxemburg-Casco beat Sturgeon Bay/Sevastopol, Green Bay Preble, and Fox Valley Lutheran.

The Spartans won the match 67-3 over Fox Valley Lutheran, 60-15 over Sturgeon Bay/Sevastopol, and 59-16 against Green Bay Preble. In the match against the Hornets,  the Spartans registered five pins, three technical falls, and two major decisions.

Two area teams will start their wrestling season on Thursday as they both travel to Green Bay Preble for a quad meet.

Luxemburg-Casco, Sturgeon Bay/Sevastopol, Green Bay Preble, and Fox Valley Lutheran are all participating in the meet beginning at 5:30 p.m. with the Spartans battling the Foxes in an NEC affair while SBS battles the Hornets.
