Luxemburg-Casco volleyball's streak ends against Xavier

There will be no four-peat for the Luxemburg-Casco volleyball team as they lost in straight sets to Xavier in Appleton Thursday night 25-20, 25-23, 25-15.

Head coach Jeff Frey credited Xavier's coaches and players in the team's first best-of-five match defeat  since October 19th, 2019. "All the credit goes to Luke and his team, they played well and put a lot of pressure on us.  They were just better than us tonight."

Standing out for the Spartans were Alayna Deprez (28 assists and 9 digs), Kylie Hanson (12 kills and 9 digs), Autumn Flynn (10 kills), and Brooke VandeHei (10 digs).

"I am so incredibly proud of our ladies, night in and night out, we got everyone’s best shot, and they rose to the occasion so many times," Frey added. "What our team has been able to accomplish together over the past few seasons is incredible. The legacy our seniors leave behind is amazing, so much love and respect for our girls."

The senior class was a part of three straight state championships, including a COVID-impacted 2020 season where they did not drop a single set.

Mariah Potter led the Hawks to the sectional final with an admirable performance as a setter, collecting 36 assists on the night.

Spartans gear up for sectional showdown

The Luxemburg Casco Spartans will head on the road to Xavier as they take on the Hawks in a tough match in the WIAA sectional semifinals.

The Spartans went through their regional rather easily, as they defeated Green Bay West in three sets, Plymouth in three sets, and most recently a NEC foe in Fox Valley Lutheran in four sets. L-C, the reigning champions in Division 2, will face a Xavier Hawks team in which the competition seems almost like a state championship type game to some.

The Hawks of Xavier have swept both of their matches so far in the postseason on their way to a regional title. They swept the likes of Seymour and Freedom, and have the Spartans in their sights. An overall record of 35-7 for the Hawks this season is what gave them the first seed, and will be up for the fight that the Spartans bring.

The match is set for 7:00 from Xavier.

Spartans volleyball win regional title

Winning regional titles at home is becoming a fall tradition for the Luxemburg-Casco volleyball team.

The Spartans toppled Fox Valley Lutheran 25-23, 25-20, 20-25, 26-24 to win the title and to improve to 38-8 on the season.

Standout performances include Alayna Deprez (45 assists and 19 digs), Cami Onell (19 kills), Autumn Flynn (17 kills and 6 blocks), and Brooke VandeHei (32 digs and 3 aces).

Head coach Jeff Frey was thrilled with the grit and resiliency his team showed Saturday night. "What an amazing match tonight, we played so well for the first 2 1/2 sets, credit Wendy and her team.  They made us work for every last point."

The Luxemburg-Casco Spartans could not overcome a 21-0 deficit in the first half, falling 21-12 to the Fox Valley Lutheran Foxes Friday night in WIAA Division 3 Level 1 playoff action in Luxemburg.

The Foxes started out the scoring with an opening drive of 68 yards that was culminated by a one-yard run by Jack Egan.  Fox Valley Lutheran then took control of the game with a three-yard run by Egan and an 18-yard pass from quarterback Liam Heiges to Benett Reader to make the score 21-0 in the second quarter.

The Spartans came up with a big play late in the first half to stay in the game with a 40-yard strike from Braydon Loritz to Braden Schley with only :04 seconds left in the half to make it 21-6 after the extra point attempt was unsuccessful.

The game stayed scoreless through the third quarter, but the Spartans had a first and goal-to-go from the two with seven minutes left in the fourth quarter and could not score as a fourth down pass was intercepted.

The Spartans didn’t quit as they were able to rally with a 19-yard pass from Loritz to Sawyer Dorn with 1:23 left in the game to close the score to 21-12.  The two-point play failed and the Foxes recovered the ensuing onside kick to seal the victory.

The Spartans overall have had a successful season, but have been lead by the boys team. Spencer Thiry and Gabe Havel have shined for the Spartans, who have 10 runners who are running at 20 minutes or under. A 21 person boys team looks destined to at least be a state trip contender.

The girls team has been solid as well, with that team being lead by Madilyn Bevins and McKenna Rank. The numbers are there for them as well, as they have 24 girls who have been clocked in so far this season.

The meet will be one step closer to a state trip for the Spartans.

Spartans soccer battles Ashwaubenon

The Luxemburg-Casco soccer team will host one of three events at the sports complex on Friday when they welcome Ashwaubenon.

The Spartans are winless in their last two matches, tying Algoma 1-1 and getting shut out by Winneconne 4-0. The team had been playing some of its best soccer of the season, going 4-1-1 over their previous six matches prior to their recent run.

The Jaguars enter the match 3-13-2 and winless in the Fox River Classic Conference. They kept things close against Green Bay Southwest in the first half before eventually falling 6-2, stretching their winless stretch to five (0-3-2). They have been outscored 21-3 during that time.

The two teams square off in Luxemburg at 6:30 p.m.

Spartans volleyball kicks wheels off Truckers

The Luxemburg-Casco volleyball continued its undefeated run through the Northeastern Conference with a 3-0 win over Clintonville on Thursday.

They never let the Truckers reach 15 points, winning the sets 25-13, 25-13, 25-10.

Standing out for the Spartans in the match included

Alayna Deprez (24 assists), Autumn Flynn  (16 kills), Kylie Hanson (7 kills and 7 digs), and Brooke VandeHei (11 digs).

Head coach Jeff Frey called it a good road win on Thursday, adding that he "thought we put a lot of pressure on them from the service line."

Spartans battle Foxes on 96.7 WBDK

The Luxemburg-Casco Spartans hope some home cooking will help them get back on the winning track as they host the Fox Valley Lutheran Foxes on Friday night.  The Spartans, losers of three straight, are coming off a hard-fought 35-30 loss to Denmark last week, while the Foxes dropped their second game in a row to the Wrightstown Tigers 22-14.  Luxemburg-Casco (2-3, 4-3 overall) need to win their last two North Eastern Conference games to automatically secure a playoff bid.  Fox Valley Lutheran (3-2, 5-2) possesses a balanced attack, with running back Jack Egan leading the way with 450 rushing yards with nine touchdowns.  The game will be broadcast on 96.7 WBDK and streamed on New Radio Sports Network with kickoff at 7 pm.  Paul Schmitt and Reece Robillard will have the call starting at 6:45 pm with the pregame show.  You can listen to L-C Coach Neil Seering’s interview on the podcast page here.

Spartans volleyball takes trip to Clintonville

The Luxemburg Casco Spartans girls volleyball team will take the court in Clintonville for a NEC conference match.

The Spartans (7-0 NEC, 22-8 Overall), have been defending that state championship well, as they are still undefeated in the North Eastern Conference. Luxemburg Casco is coming off of an impressive 3-0 sweep of the Waupaca Comets on Tuesday, and visit the Truckers who are on the opposite side of the standings from them.

Clintonville (0-6 NEC, 6-11 Overall), has had their fair share of struggles so far this season in NEC play, as they have not performed better than a loss in 4 sets or worse all year. The Truckers will look to pull off the upset Thursday night.

The match is set to get underway at 7:00 P.M. from Clintonville.

Spartan Volleyball sweeps Waupaca

The Luxemburg-Casco Spartans picked up a convincing win at home Tuesday night, taking all three sets against the Waupaca Comets.  The Spartans won easily in the first two sets, winning 25-17 and 25-16.  The third set was closer, with L-C narrowly winning 25-21.  The Spartans were led by Alayna Deprez with 22 kills and 7 digs, Kylie Hanson had nine kills and 11 digs, and Autumn Flynn contributed seven kills and two blocks in the victory. Brooke VandeHei added 13 digs and four aces for Luxemburg-Casco (22-8, 7-0), who remains undefeated in the North Eastern Conference.   L-C Coach Jeff Frey said after the game, "it was a nice win, Waupaca is a much-improved team, and they were on a roll coming in.  I was happy with a lot of things we did tonight, we just need to continue to focus on the little things".

Spartans travel to Winneconne to face Wolves in soccer match

The Luxemburg Casco Spartans soccer team has turned their season around, and will take on a non-conference opponent in the Winneconne Wolves.

The Spartans (3-3-1 NEC, 5-7-2 Overall), have been very impressive in the second half of the season so far, as in their last 5 games they are 3-0-2 and have not lost since September 16th against Port Washington. Luxemburg Casco will have a chance to add to that impressive streak as they head on the road to Winneconne.

Winneconne (1-3 ECC, 6-7-2 Overall), has fallen off in the East Central Conference after a strong start to the year. Unlike the Spartans, and nearly the opposite, the Wolves are 1-5-1 in their last seven matches, and will be looking to finally get back towards their winning ways as they were in the beginning of the season.

The match is set to begin at 4:30 in Winneconne.

Spartans play host to NEC foe Waupaca

The Luxemburg Casco Spartans are undefeated in their NEC schedule so far, and will look to keep the winning streak alive against the Waupaca Comets.

The Spartans (6-0 NEC, 21-8 Overall), are once again proving that they will be tough to beat when it comes playoff time, as they are currently leading the NEC, and will be facing their hardest competition yet. The Comets of Waupaca currently sit tied for second in the NEC, and if they could pull the upset, would be sitting tied with the Spartans. Luxemburg Casco has played teams from all over the state however, once again strengthening their resume and their ability for a long run in the playoffs.

Waupaca (5-1 NEC, 13-6 Overall), has had a very impressive season to date, with only losing one match so far in NEC play. Their one loss has come to the Fox Valley Lutheran Foxes, in a surprising 3-0 sweep.

The match is set for 7:00 P.M. in Luxemburg Casco.
