Luxemburg-Casco looks to fill head coaching vacancies

The Luxemburg-Casco athletics department has a number of coaching positions to fill, including two before this fall season begins.

 

Within the last week, the school district has posted openings for assistant cross country coach and head baseball coach. The cross country team is coming off a fall season where Spencer Thiry qualified for state and had a number of strong performances from other team members. According to the Luxemburg-Casco cross country page, Coach Lenss is stepping down to focus on her schooling.  Baseball coach Ryan Brown departs the team after going 10-11 this spring, including 1-1 in the playoffs. 

 

Earlier this month, the district also posted the job for its head girls' golf coach position. 

Larson a state placer in nearly two events

Luxemburg-Casco’s John Larson had himself a successful state track meet on Friday. Larson was one spot away from being a place winner in the 110-meter hurdles for Division 2. Larson qualified for those finals by getting tenth in the preliminaries. Larson took the eighth spot in the 300-meter hurdles. His time logged was 40.98, and just .15 seconds away from being a top-five finisher. Larson will have a chance to climb further up the ladder next year when he is a senior. 

Spartans track prepare for state meet

The Luxemburg-Casco Spartans track team will look to end their season on a high note in LaCrosse Friday during the Division 2 State Track Meet.

 

On the boys' side,  John Larson is in the second heat of both of his hurdles events in the preliminary rounds. Larson has posted the 12th best time in the 110m hurdles and the ninth best in the 300m high hurdles.

 

For the girls, the Spartans 4 x200m relay is in the second section of the timed finals. Featuring Grace Holschuh, Gabrielle Wech, Alexandria Wech, Madelyn Smith,  Samantha Kahr, and Emily Ropson, the team posted the seventh-fastest qualifying time.

 

The first events begin at 11 a.m.

Spartan athletes earn Northeastern Conference recognition

As the sports teams on the peninsula wrap up spring sports seasons with state track this week, the Northeastern Conference released All-Conference honors. Luxemburg-Casco will be focused on State Track this week, but other sports are now able to reflect and be given recognition for their spring efforts. Award winners by sport for the Spartans include:

1st Team All-Conference: Zach Smith

Honorable Mention: Caden Lukes

 

Track and Field

 

John Larson was second team All Northeastern in the 300 Meter hurdles and John Larson was honorable mention in the 100 Meter hurdles. Taylor Thiry was second-team All Conference in the shot put. Megan Vandermause was honorable mention in the 3200 Meter relay. Several athletes were honorable mention for their participation in the 4 x 200, 4 x 400, and 4 x 800 meter relays. Those include Emily Ropson, Alexandria Wech, Gabrielle Wech, Samantha Kahr, Micaela Boucher, Grace Holschuh, Madelyn Smith, Hannah Derrene, Madilyn Bevins, Elizabeth Rank, Megan Vandermause, and  Grace Seering. 

 

Girls soccer: 

 

Heather Iverson and Tabi Lemens were first team, while Jillian Lynts received second-team honors. Tara Dhuey was honorable mention. 

 

Boys soccer:

 

Griffin Saldana, Rigoberto  Caseres, and the goalkeeper Garret Zuleger got on the first team. Nathan Johnson and Hayden Koss were second-team. 

 

Softball:

 

Rebecca Kroll was a first team pitcher and McKenzie Hanson was a first team outfielder. Getting second team honors was Brianna Gaedtke, Lauren Adams, Kylie Hanson, and Emily Jandrin. Taking home honorable mention was Payton Kaminski 

 

Baseball:

 

Owen Deprez and Blake Robillard were first-team all conference and Max Ronsman was a second-team all-conference selection.

Marinette's 6th Inning too much for Lady Spartans on WBDK

A four-run sixth inning rally propelled the Marinette Marines to a 5-1 sectional semi-final victory over the Luxemburg-Casco Spartans Monday afternoon on WBDK 96.7 FM.  Both starting pitchers dominated through the first five innings with Spartan Rebecca Kroll having allowed only one walk and no hits to that point.  Marinette broke through in the top of the sixth with five hits and four runs to break the game open.  The Spartans could not solve the pitching mastery of Sidney Nimitz who held Luxemburg-Casco scoreless until the top of the seventh when Spartan Brianna Gaedkte led off with a booming home run over the left field fence after the Marines added an insurance run in the top half of the inning.  Kroll took the loss allowing five runs with eight hits and one walk while striking out two.  Nimitz struck out 12 Spartans while not issuing a walk and gave up only five hits in the complete game victory.  Luxemburg-Casco ends the season at 20-4, while Marinette will now travel to Winneconne to face the winner of Denmark-Waupan in the Division 2 WIAA Softball Sectional final on Wednesday. 

Lady Spartan softball battles Marinette in sectionals on WBDK Monday

The Luxemburg-Casco Lady Spartans (20-3) will host the Marinette Marines (17-6) in a WIAA Division 2 sectional semi-final contest Monday afternoon.  The #2 seeded Spartans are coming off a regional championship last week where they beat Shawano 8-0.  The # 4 seeded Marines are coming off a 3-2 victory over Freedom last Wednesday in a regional final.  The Spartans have defeated the Marines twice this year by scores of 5-2 and 2-1.  Matt Piesler and Paul Schmitt will have the call with the pregame show set for 4:00 pm and game time set for 4:30 p.m. on 96.7FM WBDK.  The game audio can also be streamed on NewRadioSportsNetwork.com.

Spartans earn regional softball crown

Luxemburg-Casco held up the end of their Wednesday bargain at both the plate and in the field. The Spartans downed Shawano 8-0 to advance to the sectional semi-finals. Rebecca Kroll kept Shawano quiet offensively, giving up just three hits in her complete game.

 

After a scoreless first inning, the Spartans pushed across six runs. Big hits in the inning were provided by Emily Jandrin who had a two-RBI double which scored Kylie Hanson and Sierra Jonet, Lauren Adams, two-RBI single, and Brianna Gaedtke with a two-RBI double. L-C scored one in on Kenzie Hanson's RBI single which scored Grace Kahr and one in the sixth on Kylie Hanson's home run.

 

Leading hitters for Luxemburg-Casco were Lauren Adams, 3 for 3, double, two RBI. Kylie Hanson, 2 for 4, two runs scored, home run. Emily Jandrin, double, two RBI.

 

Lizzy Kary, Brianna Wright, and Hatty Fritz each had a hit for Shawano.

 

The Spartans will face Marinette in a Division 2 sectional semi-final on Monday. They have beat Marinette twice this season, by scores of 5-2 and 2-1. The Spartans now have a 20-3 overall record. 

 

Spartans baseball falls just short of taking down top seed

The Luxemburg-Casco Spartans baseball team came within two runs of beating the number one seed in their regional tournament, Denmark. Luxemburg-Casco lost by a 4-2 final score. The Spartans finished their season with a 10-11 record. Two of the Spartans three losses to Denmark this season were by two runs, and the other was by three. With the loss, the season has concluded for Luxemburg-Casco.

 

Spartans softball advances handily

On Monday, Luxemburg-Casco advanced their softball season, beating Fox Valley Lutheran 12-2. Rebecca Kroll put together a quality start at pitcher, and was credited with the win. Kroll also helped her cause in the beginning of the game with a double that knocked in two runs.

 

FVL opened the scoring in the first inning on back-to-back singles by B. Blob and M. Sokulski and a bases loaded walk to M. Cain which scored Blob.  L-C answered in their half of the first as Kenzie Hanson was hit by pitch, Payton Kaminski singled, and Lauren Adams singled to score Hanson. Kaminski and Adams scored on Rebecca Kroll's two RBI double to give LC a 3-1 lead after one. Luxemburg-Casco also scored three runs in the third, three in the fourth, and three more in the sixth. The fourth inning was highlighted by Kenzie Hanson's two-run home run.

 

Winning pitcher Rebecca Kroll threw a complete game, five-hitter with five strikeouts.

 

Leading hitters for Luxemburg-Casco were Payton Kaminski, 3/4 and three runs scored, Emily Jandrin, 2/3, Kenzie Hanson, home run, two runs scored and three RBI, and Kylie Hanson, 1/2, double, two runs scored and two RBI

 

The Spartans are now 19-3 will next play at home on Wednesday versus Shawano in a WIAA Regional Championship.  The Spartans and Shawano have not met up yet this season. 

 

Spartans track boys finish fourth, girls second

The Luxemburg-Casco track teams will send a strong contingent to Thursday's sectional meet at Fox Valley Lutheran.

 

The girls narrowly finished in second place behind Little Chute 131-129.5 while the boys came in fourth with 75 points behind Little Chute, Two Rivers, and Kewaunee.

Spartans softball hosts Foxes in playoff opener

Two Northeastern Conference rivals matchup in the opening round of the WIAA Tournament Monday when Luxemburg-Casco hosts Fox Valley Lutheran.

 

The Spartans beat the Foxes twice during the regular season, win 10-2 and 7-1 May 24th. They have only lost once since May 4th. The Foxes opened up their playoff run with a 6-2 win over Little Chute, their fourth victory in a row.

 

First pitch is set for 4:30 p.m.

Fishing duo take seventh

The first appearance at the state meet in LaCrosse proved fruitful for the Luxemburg-Casco Fishing Team.

 

Charlie Simonar and Ethan Jerabek finished in 7th place out of 21 teams. The team's coaches highlighted the strength of the field after the competition was over Sunday. They noted that the top three high school teams toppled all of the college teams in the tournament.

 

 

Spartans girls soccer take playoff loss in Freedom

Luxemburg-Casco saw their season come to an end on Saturday afternoon. The Spartans took on Freedom for the second time this season and took another loss to the Freedom squad, 3-0. Freedom has the advantage in the teams two games against one another, 8-1. With the loss, Luxemburg-Casco’s overall season record is 6-5. The Spartans up and down season includes wins in two of their last three games. 

 

Pair of goals from Lynts lifts Spartans

Luxemburg-Casco got a WIAA tournament win over Shawano with a lot of help from Jillian Lynts and Tabi Lemens. Lynts scored a pair of goals in the contest, and Tabi Lemens racked up ten saves. The Spartans ended the game with a 3-1 win over Shawano. Now the Spartans take on Freedom, who was tough to beat in the regular season. The Spartans have a taste for Freedom already, having played them earlier in the regular season. The Spartans lost by a 5-1 final score. 

 

Fast start gets Spartans softball past Storm

Luxemburg-Casco softball started out the game with five runs in the opening inning, and didn’t let up en route to a win over the Packerland leader, Kewaunee. The final score ended up 8-4. With the non-conference win, Luxemburg-Casco improves to 16-3 overall on the season. For Kewaunee, the loss puts their overall record at 13-6 this season. The game served as a tune-up for the WIAA playoffs that will begin on Monday. 

 

Luxemburg-Casco scored early and often. LC scored five in the first. Brianna Gaedtke's two-RBI double scored Kenzie Hanson and Payton Kaminski who each reached on singles. Two more runs came in on Rebecca Kroll's two-RBI double which scored courtesy runner Anna Vandermause and Kylie Hanson. The final run of the inning was produced by Grace Kahr's RBI single which scored courtesy runner Emily Bouche.

 

The Spartan's three runs in the second inning came home on Gaedtke's two-RBI single which again scored Kenzie Hanson and Payton Kaminski. Kroll's third RBI of the game came on a single which scored Jillian Jorgensen to complete LC's scoring.

 

Rebecca Kroll was the winning pitcher. Kroll struck out four and surrendered two earned runs.

Luxemburg-Casco prepares for state fishing tournament

The Luxemburg-Casco Fishing Team is preparing for its first state tournament this Saturday.

 

Charlie Simonar and Ethan Jerabek will team up on one squad while the other will be anchored by 
Nathan Naze and TJ Weinfurter. Boat captains will be Brian Eisch and Jesse Jerabek. The teams were allowed two days of practice before the tournament takes place on the Mississippi River near LaCrosse.

Spartans girls soccer faces off with Shawano in playoff opener

Luxemburg-Casco is going for their seventh win of the season on Thursday when they open their WIAA postseason play at home against Shawano. The Spartans are 6-4 to this point in the season, and most recently beat Peshtigo 6-1. Their opponent is 3-9 to this point in the season. The Spartans Thursday home game will start at 7:00 PM. The winner of the game will advance and take on Freedom, who beat Luxemburg-Casco 5-1 on May 24th. 

 

Luxemburg-Casco's Smith qualifies for state golf meet

Luxemburg-Casco junior Zach Smith still has more golf to play after qualifying for the state meet earlier this week.

 

Smith shot a 78 at the Par 71 Waushara Country Club in Wautoma to finish the day tied for fifth place with Peshtigo's Grant Bauman. Smith defeated Bauman in a tiebreaker The Spartans finished in eighth place as a team with a score of 345.

Baseball: Spartans, Clippers head into playoff battle

Sturgeon Bay and  Luxemburg-Casco have yet to meet this season, but they will on Thursday with seasons on the line. The Spartans will try to turn around their fortunes, having lost their last three games. Sturgeon Bay is coming off a loss to Bonduel in their regular season finale, but has won their last two of three. Both teams are hovering around .500 on the season, as the Spartans are 9-10 overall and the Clippers are 10-10 altogether. Thursday’s game will be hosted by Luxemburg-Casco and begin at 4:30 PM. 

 

Girls soccer: Spartans handily win finale

Luxemburg-Casco got one last regular season go-around on Tuesday. The Spartans beat Peshtigo by a 6-1 final score on Tuesday night. The win makes the Spartans final regular-season record 6-4 overall. It’ll be a quick turnaround for the Spartans, who take on Shawano on Thursday in the opening round of the WIAA playoffs. The teams will square off with a chance to play Freedom in the following round on Saturday. The scheduled start time is 7:00 PM and the Spartans will host. 

 

Baseball: Tough day at the plate plagues Spartans

The Luxemburg-Casco Spartans held up their end of the bargain defensively in their Monday doubleheader at Denmark. But the undefeated team would hold the Spartans to no hits in both of their games which ended in shutout wins for Denmark. Luxemburg-Casco lost by final scores of 2-0 and 3-0. The Spartans finish their regular season with an overall record of 9-10. They face Sturgeon Bay on Thursday in the WIAA Regional. 

 

Spartans girls soccer look to win before playoffs

The Luxemburg-Casco girls soccer team hopes to enter the WIAA playoffs on a good note when they host Marinette Monday night.

 

The Spartans fell to Wrightstown 6-1 their last time out one day after dropping a close 2-1 contest to Denmark. The Marines are coming off one of their biggest wins of the year shutting out Clintonville 10-0.

 

First touch is set for 6:30 p.m.

Girls Soccer: Spartans on wrong end of tight battle

An offensive struggle with Denmark ended in a 2-1 loss for Luxemburg-Casco on Thursday. The loss drops the Spartans overall record to 4-3. Luxemburg-Casco came into the game having won four of their last five, and will look to regain that momentum on Friday. The Spartans visit Wrightstown on Friday with a start time scheduled for 4:30 PM. 

 

L-C track battles for conference crown

The Northeastern Conference crown is on the line Friday when Luxemburg-Casco travels to Appleton.

 

Clintonville, Denmark, Fox Valley Lutheran, Freedom, Little Chute, Marinette, Oconto Falls, Waupaca, and Wrightstown will also be competing for the title beginning at 3:30 p.m. The Spartans look to improve on their 2019 performance that saw them finish middle of the pack with many then-seniors leading the way.

 

 

Softball: Spartans going for rebound win

After Denmark snapped Luxemburg-Casco softball’s eleven game win streak, the Spartans will try to rebound four days later. The Spartans face Waupaca in a Tuesday road game. The Spartans previous win streak started with a home win against Waupaca on May 11th, winning 12-0. Waupaca’s most recent game is also a loss to Denmark, falling 14-6 last Tuesday. They have lost four of their last three conference games. First pitch for Tuesday’s game with Waupaca and Luxemburg-Casco is scheduled for 4:30 PM. 

 

Girls soccer: Spartans hoping to keep up tough play

Luxemburg-Casco will try to continue their recent successes when they face off with Little Chute on Tuesday evening. The Spartans have won three of their last four games, most recently a week ago when they beat Clintonville. Little Chute has had the opposite fortunes as of late, with four straight losses. First touch in Tuesday’s game between the two is scheduled for 6:30 PM, and Luxemburg-Casco will be the host.
