Spartans girls' golf ready for NEC triangular

The Luxemburg-Casco girls' golf team hits the links on Tuesday to face a pair of NEC rivals.

 

The Spartans will travel to Little River Golf Course in Marinette to face Fox Valley Lutheran and host Marinette. They most recently took sixth in the Ashwaubenon Jaguar Scramble last week with a score of 74. 

 

Tee time is set for 3 p.m.

Spartans soccer looks to rebound against Clintonville

After humbling performances against Ludington and Waupaca last week, Luxemburg-Casco looks to get back in the win column Tuesday when it travels to Clintonville.

 

The Spartans were shut out by Waupaca 6-0 and Ludington 5-0 in consecutive games last week after sneaking past Ashwaubenon earlier this month. The Truckers lost its only game this season by a score of 5-1 to Mosinee.

 

First touch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.

Spartans soccer drops match to Ludington

The Luxemburg-Casco soccer team struggled to get the offense going in its 5-0 loss to Ludington.

 

The Spartans gave up two goals in the first half and the other three in the second half. The game was a warm-up match for the Orioles, who sailed across Lake Michigan to participate in the inaugural Carferry Cup against Manitowoc Lincoln, which they also won by a score of 3-0.

Spartans volleyball wins Sun Prairie Invite

The Luxemburg-Casco volleyball team started their title defense on a high note over the weekend.

 

The Spartans captured the Sun Prairie Invite title on Saturday with a 7-1 overall record. The tournament started with pool play where the Spartans defeated DeForest 25-7, 25-11; Beaver Dam 25-17, 26-24; Manitowoc 18-25, 25-22, 15-12; and Sun Prairie 25-20, 23-25, 15-13. They suffered their first loss in well over a year to Edgewood 20-25, 21-25. That set up bracket play where they first beat Watertown 25-21, 25-17 and DeForest 25-17, 25-16 before taking out Pewaukee in the championship match.

 

Across the 10 matches, Emma Johnson collected 149 assists while Autumn Flynn scored on over 70 kills. Brooke Vande Hei led the way defensively with 65 digs. 

Spartans outlast Thunder and storms on WBDK

The Luxemburg-Casco Spartans started fast and overcame a 90- minute weather delay to dominate the Seymour Thunder 43-0 at Thunder Stadium on Friday night in a non-conference football game. 

 

The Spartans scored on the second offensive play of the game on a 54-yard pass from Owen Deprez to Ryan Routhieaux.  The Spartans then tacked on two more scores in the first half before a severe thunderstorm delayed the game with 2:12 left in the second half. 

 

The game officials and coaches agreed to return playing with no halftime and 10-minute quarters to complete the game.

 

When play resumed, the Spartans did not miss a beat as Routhieaux, Deprez, and Isaac VandenBush scored on runs in the abbreviated second half. 

 

Luxemburg-Casco (2-0) will now travel to Winneconne next Friday night against the Wolves.  Matt Piesler and Paul Schmitt will have the call starting at 6:30 p.m. with the pregame show and kick-off set for 7 pm on 96.7FM WBDK.  The game audio can also be streamed on the NewRadioSportsRadioNetwork.com. 

Spartans shutout by Waupaca soccer

In boys soccer, Luxemburg-Casco had a tough day on Thursday in a visit to Waupaca. The Spartans lost 6-0 to fall to 0-2 on the season. The Spartans will have a quick turn around in their attempt to get their first victory. On Friday, they take on Ludington High School out of Michigan. The game is scheduled to begin at 4:00 PM. 

Spartans boys' and girls' runner-up at Chief K Invitational

The Luxemburg-Casco cross country teams left Fish Creek with plenty of hardware after their appearance at the Chief Kahquados Invitational.

 

Both teams played second fiddle to De Pere, coming up four points shy in the boys' race (58-62) and 28 short in the girls' competition. Spencer Thiry led the boys with a time of 18:23 on the 5K course, which was good for fourth overall with two other runners breaking 20 minutes.

 

Madilyn Bevins led the way for the girls with a time of 21:30, which was good for third overall. Two other runners broke the 24-minute barrier.

Spartan football battles Seymour on WBDK Friday

The Luxemburg-Casco Spartans will travel to Seymour to take on the Thunder on Friday night in a non-conference football game.  The Spartans from the North Eastern Conference are coming off a dominating performance against Xavier, beating the Hawks 42-14 in the home opener.  The Spartans running back Isaac VandenBush rushed for over 200 yards and scored five touchdowns.  L-C Coach Neil Seering says the Spartans will need a similar showing against Seymour to come away with a road victory.

 

 

Seymour lost to Freedom 40-0 last Friday.  Matt Piesler and Paul Schmitt will have the call starting at 6:30 p.m. with the pregame show and kick-off set for 7 pm on 96.7FM WBDK.  The game audio can also be streamed on the NewRadioSportsRadioNetwork.com.

Spartans trying to spoil Waupaca boys soccer opener

Luxemburg-Casco will visit Waupaca for the first time since their September of 2020 battles. The Spartans lost each by scores of 3-1 and 4-3. For Waupaca, it’ll be the first game of their season after their matchup with Xavier was cancelled. The Spartans come into the game with an 0-1 record after losing to Ashwaubenon by a 2-1 final score. 

Spartans boys soccer drop tight battle in first game

Luxemburg-Casco fell short in their boys soccer season opener, but they kept the contest competitive throughout, losing 2-1 to Ashwaubenon. In the non-conference matchup, Ashwaubenon got on the board first at the 25-minute mark. The Spartans tied the game up at the 48’ point on a goal from Johan Amador and an assist from Hayden Koss. Ashwaubenon got the score they needed at 64’. The Jaguars held on for their first win. 

 

In the net, Luxemburg-Casco’s Matthew Ledvina had three saves. Luxemburg-Casco’s next shot at their first win will be in Waupaca at 6:30 PM on Thursday. 

 

Spartans girls' golf hosts NEC triangular

The Luxemburg-Casco girls' golf team will stick around town for its NEC opener on Tuesday.

 

Freedom and Little Chute will join the Spartans at Northbrook Golf Course when three teams tee off at 2 p.m.

Luxemburg-Casco travels to Ashwaubenon for soccer opener

The Luxemburg-Casco Spartans boys' soccer gets their season underway with a Tuesday evening match at Ashwaubenon.

 

The Spartans are coming off a 7-3-2 season that saw them fall in PKs against Plymouth in the regional final. They finished in second place in the North Eastern Conference behind Freedom with a 6-1-1 conference record. The Jaguars played in the alternative spring season, going winless in 10 games including a 5-2 loss to Notre Dame in regionals.

 

First touch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.

Spartans fishing team reel in big bass

The Luxemburg-Casco Fishing Team is making the most of the good weather at a tournament in Sturgeon Bay over the weekend.

 

The team was forced to change locations due to safety and winds. The coaching staff floated away impressed because the anglers were still able to find the fish, including three smallmouth bass that weighed over 5 lbs. The final standings are below:

 

1st Place: Aaron. 9.90lbs 3 fish

2nd place: John 9.50lbs 3 fish

3rd place: Charlie 8.60lbs 2 fish Big bass tiebreaker

4th place: Isaac 8.6lbs 3 fish

5th place: Ethan 7.30lbs 3 fish

6th place: Ryan 6.25lbs 2 fish

7th place: Trey 5.20lbs 1 fish.

Spartans crush Xavier on WBDK

The Luxemburg-Casco Spartans dominated the Xavier Hawks 42-14 Friday night in a non-conference football game in Luxemburg.  Before a huge Family Night and Alumni Night crowd he Spartans started slowly in the first quarter before striking quickly on their third possession.  Quarterback Owen Deprez hit wide receiver Ryan Routhieaux for a 58 yard touchdown swing pass with one minute left in the first quarter to open the scoring.  L-C added two more scores in the second quarter with Isaac VandenBush scoring on a pair of one-yard plunges. 

 

Xavier was able to pull within 20-7 at halftime by scoring with :25 seconds left in the second quarter on a two-yard pass play.

 

The Spartans came out on fire in the second half as Max Ronsman returned the kick-off back into Xavier territory, setting up a 40 yard touchdown run by VandenBush to open up the lead to 27-7.

 

VandenBush, who ended up with five TDs on the ground, scored twice more in the third quarter to give the Spartans a commanding 42-7 lead. 

 

With a continuous clock running into the fourth quarter, Xavier scored a meaningless touchdown on a two yard run by David Wolske.

 

Luxemburg-Casco (1-0) will now travel to Seymour to face the Thunder next Friday night in a non-conference battle.  Matt Piesler and Paul Schmitt will have the call starting at 6:30 p.m. with the pregame show and kick-off set for 7 pm on 96.7FM WBDK.  The game audio can also be streamed on the NewRadioSportsRadioNetwork.com.

Old versus new in Spartans soccer scrimmage

The first soccer action in months will take place on Friday night in Luxemburg with plenty of familiar faces.

 

The 2021 edition of the Luxemburg-Casco boys' soccer team will battle the Spartans of yesteryear as a part of the Alumni's annual game. 

 

The game is tentatively scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m.

 

 

Luxemburg-Casco football hosts Xavier in opener on WBDK Friday

The Luxemburg-Casco Spartans will host the Xavier Hawks Friday night in a non-conference football game in the season opener.  The Spartans from the North Eastern Conference are coming off a 7-1 campaign in 2020 that concluded with a thrilling 21-20 Division II Level II playoff win over West De Pere.  The Spartans return starting quarterback Owen Deprez and leading rusher Isaac VandenBush, along with a strong group of upperclassman.  L-C Coach Neil Seering says the Spartans are eager to face a quality opponent, like Xavier, in the home opener. 

 

 

Friday night will be Alumni Night honoring past players of the Luxemburg-Casco Program.  Matt Piesler and Paul Schmitt will have the call starting at 6:30 p.m. with the pregame show and kick-off set for 7 pm on 96.7FM WBDK.  The game audio can also be streamed on the NewRadioSportsRadioNetwork.com.

Spartans golf heads to Oconto for season opener

The Luxemburg-Casco Spartans golf team heads to Oconto for its first meet of the year.

 

Last year the Spartans saw their season end in the Waupaca Regional with a score of 466, over 100 strokes behind NEC rival Freedom and 42 strokes off the pace of another conference opponent in Marinette. 

 

One of its returning golfers could be senior Lydia VandenHouten, who qualified for last year's state tournament with a score of 97, which was good for fifth place overall. Amanda Laurent, Alyssa Gilson, Ella Waigand, and Jane Olson could also return as last year's squad featured no seniors. 

 

Tee time is set for 9 a.m. at Oconto's Vernon Hills Golf Course.
