The Luxemburg-Casco Spartans scored on all but one of their first eight possessions in the first half on the way to dominating the Seymour Thunder 56-6 Friday night in Luxemburg.

Quarterback Max Ronsman started the onslaught of scoring with a 39-yard run and ran in a two-point conversion to give the Spartans an 8-0 lead with 10:56 left in the first quarter.  Ronsman then hit Ryan Routhieaux on a 45-yard strike with 8:57 left in the quarter to give L-C a 15-0 lead.  A 13-yard touchdown run by Routhieaux extended the lead to 22-0 and the Spartans cruised to the easy win.

Ronsman scored three rushing touchdowns and passed for two more.  Routhieaux was the player of the game with two interceptions, including one returned 40 yards for a touchdown, while adding a rushing and receiving score.

Spartans boys capture Chief K Invitational title

It was a great day for local runners at the Chief Kahquados Invitational on the campus of Gibraltar on Thursday.

The course was a little different this year than in the past, with runners doing three laps into neighboring Peninsula State Park rather than taking them through the baseball field.

The top team was Luxemburg-Casco, which saw its boys' team win its race while the girls' squad missed it by a single point.

Individually, Southern Door's Brooke Strege finished the 5K distance at just over 21 minutes. The Spartans' Madilyn Bevins finished closely behind for second place. For the boys' the Spartans' Gabe Havel found himself chasing Mauston's Eli Joppart, who won his second straight Chief K title with a time of 16 minutes. Havel came in after at 17:24.

Official result have not been posted as of 6:30 a.m. Friday.

L-C Coach Neil Seering says he expects a tough game from Seymour and hopes for a fast start with no letdowns in the game.

The Spartans lost to Plymouth 7-0 in their regional opener last year, ending the season on a three-game losing streak. Spartans run past Comets on 104.1 WRLU

The Luxemburg-Casco Spartans used a 34-0 run to cruise past the Waupaca Comets 47-21 on the road Friday night.

The Comets took an early lead when Parker Krcmar rushed in from 10 yards out to make it a 7-0 lead. Max Ronsman took over from there as he scampered in from 17 yards out and threw a 50 yard touchdown pass to Ryan Routhieaux to make it 14-7 after the first quarter. Ronsman would score twice in the second quarter, one from three yards and another from 82 yards as the Spartans were in control heading into halftime with a 27-7 advantage.

Christopher VanWielen open the third quarter with a five-yard score to make it 34-7, but the Comets would storm back to make it interesting. Krcmar threw a pair of touchdowns to Aaron Wolff and Andre Hendrix to tighten the score to 34-21. The Spartans turned back the tide in the fourth quarter as they forced two turnovers. VanWielen caught the ball off a tipped pass for the first interception that he would later turn into a three-yard rushing score. Sawyer Dorn picked off the second pass on an overthrown pass by Krcmar. The Spartans would drive the ball down the field, capping it off with a Jacob DeGrave 18-yard touchdown run.

Ronsman was the player of the game with four touchdowns on offense and a number of tackles on defense.

Versatile Junior Max Ronsman will take over for Owen Deprez, who graduated, at quarterback and will have weapons like returning senior, Ryan Routhieaux, who led the Spartans in receptions last season.

Routhieaux named on Al Toon Award Pre-Season Watch List

Luxemburg-Casco’s senior wide receiver Ryan Routhieaux is getting pre-season recognition off the football field as the Spartans prepare for the 2022 campaign this fall.  Ranked 13th of the top 50 players to watch in the state this year, Routhieaux was the main wideout target for the Spartans last year snagging 35 receptions with 559 yards and six touchdowns.   He was also named First-Team All-Conference in the NEC.

The Al Toon Award is presented annually to the state’s top senior wide receiver or tight end as part of the WSN Senior Football Awards.

Routhieaux and the Spartans will travel to Waupaca Friday night to open the season against the Comets.  The game will be broadcast on 104.1 WRLU and New Radio Sports Network.

Luxemburg-Casco and Sturgeon Bay are slated to join Bonduel, NEW Lutheran, Oconto, and Oconto Falls at River Island Golf Course in Oconto Falls for their first competition of the season.

The Spartans took sixth in their own regional last year, shooting a 440. The top returner for the Spartans could be senior Jane Olson and junior Bowie Bredael, who both finished in the top 25 in the WIAA Regional hosted on their home course of Northbrook Country Club. The Clippers had no participants in the meet.

Tee time is set for 9 a.m. on Thursday. Bonduel, Oconto, Sturgeon Bay, Oconto Falls, and Luxemburg-Casco will compete against each other again Friday when they travel to Irish Greens Golf Course in Oconto beginning at 9 a.m.

Repetition of last season will give Spartans success

The Luxemburg-Casco Spartans are looking to repeat success from last season where they went 11-1 on the year with their only loss coming in Level 2 of the postseason against Menasha 27-13. LC outscored opponents 274-79 behind their senior workhorse running back Isaac VandenBush.

Every year the Spartans are a lock for contending in the NEC and usually a top 10 team in Division 3 in the Wissports rankings every week. Luxemburg Casco will look to replace their Quarterback and Running back duo that amounted over 52 total combined touchdowns on the season. They do return Wide Receiver and Cornerback Ryan Routhieaux back to the team this season. Routhieaux was top 6 in the NEC in forced fumbles on defense and second in the conference in receiving yards and touchdowns.

The Spartans every year will run out a contender onto the field every week of the season, and they could see themselves making another deep run into the playoffs again this year. The Spartans will travel to Waupaca for a week 1 showdown to showcase the talent they have on another team that will look to build upon what they did last season.
