Spartans crush Xavier on WBDK

The Luxemburg-Casco Spartans dominated the Xavier Hawks 42-14 Friday night in a non-conference football game in Luxemburg.  Before a huge Family Night and Alumni Night crowd he Spartans started slowly in the first quarter before striking quickly on their third possession.  Quarterback Owen Deprez hit wide receiver Ryan Routhieaux for a 58 yard touchdown swing pass with one minute left in the first quarter to open the scoring.  L-C added two more scores in the second quarter with Isaac VandenBush scoring on a pair of one-yard plunges.

Xavier was able to pull within 20-7 at halftime by scoring with :25 seconds left in the second quarter on a two-yard pass play.

The Spartans came out on fire in the second half as Max Ronsman returned the kick-off back into Xavier territory, setting up a 40 yard touchdown run by VandenBush to open up the lead to 27-7.

VandenBush, who ended up with five TDs on the ground, scored twice more in the third quarter to give the Spartans a commanding 42-7 lead.

With a continuous clock running into the fourth quarter, Xavier scored a meaningless touchdown on a two yard run by David Wolske.

Luxemburg-Casco (1-0) will now travel to Seymour to face the Thunder next Friday night in a non-conference battle.  Matt Piesler and Paul Schmitt will have the call starting at 6:30 p.m. with the pregame show and kick-off set for 7 pm on 96.7FM WBDK.  The game audio can also be streamed on the NewRadioSportsRadioNetwork.com.
