Spartan season ends with loss to Foxes on 96.7 WBDK

The Luxemburg-Casco Spartans could not overcome a 21-0 deficit in the first half, falling 21-12 to the Fox Valley Lutheran Foxes Friday night in WIAA Division 3 Level 1 playoff action in Luxemburg.

The Foxes started out the scoring with an opening drive of 68 yards that was culminated by a one-yard run by Jack Egan.  Fox Valley Lutheran then took control of the game with a three-yard run by Egan and an 18-yard pass from quarterback Liam Heiges to Benett Reader to make the score 21-0 in the second quarter.

The Spartans came up with a big play late in the first half to stay in the game with a 40-yard strike from Braydon Loritz to Braden Schley with only :04 seconds left in the half to make it 21-6 after the extra point attempt was unsuccessful.

The game stayed scoreless through the third quarter, but the Spartans had a first and goal-to-go from the two with seven minutes left in the fourth quarter and could not score as a fourth down pass was intercepted.

The Spartans didn’t quit as they were able to rally with a 19-yard pass from Loritz to Sawyer Dorn with 1:23 left in the game to close the score to 21-12.  The two-point play failed and the Foxes recovered the ensuing onside kick to seal the victory.

#4 Luxemburg-Casco finishes the season at 5-5, while #5 Fox Valley Lutheran (6-4) will now travel to West Salem next Friday to play the #1 seeded Titans who defeated Waupaca 49-0.
