Spartans withstand Storm in shootout on WRLU

The Luxemburg-Casco Spartan boys defeated the Kewaunee Storm in a high-scoring non-conference matchup Tuesday night in Kewaunee 81-72.   The Spartans trailed early on as the Storm’s defense forced turnovers and hit some key shots.

Luxemburg-Casco opened up a double-digit lead late in the first half and carried a 38-28 lead into halftime.

The Storm cut the lead to just four points early in the second half, but the Spartans opened up a 21 point lead with help from a balanced scoring attack and pressure defense.

Kewaunee was able to cut the lead down to just seven points with under :30 seconds to play, but L-C prevailed in the cross-county rivalry game.

Peyton Mrotek and Evan Dahlke led the Spartans with 14 points each, while Caleb Blohowiak came off the bench to score 13 points.  Jack Rollins tallied ten points and Owen Deprez chipped in nine more as the Spartans had four players in double figures.

The Storm were led by Ben Heim who scored 25 points with four three-pointers and Cameron Cullen added 19 more, all in the second half.

Luxemburg-Casco (3-3) will now play two games in the holiday tournament next week at the Kress Center, before getting back into North Eastern Conference action on Thursday, January 6 at home against Freedom in a game that will be broadcast on 96.7 FM WBDK and the New Radio Sports Network.
