Second-half dooms Spartans soccer

An offensive fury in the second half turned against Luxemburg-Casco in its home opener on Thursday night, losing to Xavier 5-1.

Teagan Gunderson posted a first-half clean sheet with five saves to keep things tied at zero between the Spartans and the Hawks. Three minutes into the second half, Emi Kuhn opened the scoring with a goal on a feed from Diem Bonness. The good vibes would stop eight minutes later when Gabby Wasco tied the game on a penalty kick. The Hawks would go on to score four unanswered goals in regular play, including a goal and an assist from Kayla Standish. Ashley Fameree made five saves in the second half for the Spartans while Abigail Anderson made one save for the Hawks.

The Spartans will be in action next Tuesday at home for a non-conference game against Green Bay Southwest.
