Bulldogs crush Spartans 35-7 on WBDK

The Luxemburg-Casco Spartans could not overcome early mistakes and fell to the New London Bulldogs 35-7 in a non-conference football opener Friday night.  The Bulldogs jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead by blocking a Spartans punt and recovering it in the end zone only two minutes into the game.  New London’s Briley Johnson, who recovered the blocked punt, then caught a 22-yard pass from quarterback Tucker Kohl late in the first quarter and the Bulldogs had the Spartans down 14-0.

The Bulldogs scored twice more before the half, including a backbreaking three-yard scoring run by Sean Cortright with only a half-minute left in the half to take a commanding 28-0 lead into intermission.

The Spartans could not muster a comeback in the second half as New London cruised to the victory with a continuous clock late in the third quarter after scoring on a 1-yard pass from Kohl to Chase Nelson.

Luxemburg-Casco did finally score on a 21-yard run by quarterback Matt Cravilion late in the fourth quarter.  The Spartans (0-1) will try to bounce back next week as they travel to Appleton to take on the Fox Valley Lutheran Foxes in the North Eastern Conference opener.  The game will be broadcast on WBDK 96.7 FM and streamed on DoorCountyDailyNews.com  starting at 6:30 pm with the pregame show and kick-off set for 7 pm.
