Spartans hold off Wildcats, advance to Regional Semis on 104.1 WRLU

It took all 36 minutes for a winner to be decided, but after all was said and done, Luxemburg Casco took down Green Bay West to advance in the WIAA Playoffs, winning 53-52 as heard on 104.1 WRLU.

The Spartans got behind early, as the Wildcats got out to an early 9-2 advantage.  Slowly but surely, LC clawed back into the contest, eventually grabbing a 13-12 lead. The lead ping ponged back and forth, as both teams traded makes.  Luxemburg Casco went on an 8-0 run to grab a 23-16 lead, only to see Green Bay West go on a 7-0 run to tie the game once again.  In the closing seconds of the first half, Ethan Ropson launched and connected on a deep three, giving the Spartans a 26-23 advantage at the break.

Both teams came out of the locker room with strong starts, scoring on their early possessions.  Luxemburg Casco was able to build the lead to as high as 8 points through the half, led by Ropson's 12 second half points.  The Wildcats refused to go away, getting some timely buckets from Alston Metoxen and Bryson Thao. With the game tightening up, Green Bay West was forced to foul, but the Spartans struggled from the charity stripe in the late going, allowing the Wildcats to close the gap. Ethan Ropson once again came in the clutch, splitting a trip at the line but giving LC a four point lead.  Metoxen went down the floor and hit a three but it was too late, as the Spartans did not need to inbound the ball, holding on for the win.

Ropson led the way for Luxemburg Casco with 15 points, with Jacob Coisman adding 9 points.  Metoxen led all scorers in the game with 21 points.

The Spartans advance to the WIAA Regional Semifinals, and will travel to Plymouth on Friday evening.
