Spartan boys win thriller over Waupaca on 104.1 WRLU

The Luxemburg-Casco Spartan boys hung on for a thrilling 54-51 game over the Waupaca Comets in a North Eastern Conference matchup in Luxemburg Friday night on Senior Night.

The game started with both teams struggling from the field, with the Spartans taking a narrow 10-6 lead midway through the first half.  The rest of the half saw both teams trading baskets and the Comets taking a slim 22-20 lead into intermission.

Luxemburg-Casco would come out quickly in the second half, scoring the first six points before Waupaca recovered, and the lead changed hands several times before the final minute.

The Spartans would take a three-point lead on two free throws by Jack Rollin with under two minutes to play, and the score held up as Waupaca missed two three-point shots in the final 11 seconds on separate possessions to come up short, 54-51.

Jack Rollin led the Spartans with 19 points and played stellar defense with numerous steals.  Chase Bukouricz added 12 points and hit key free throws down the stretch as well to secure the win.

The Spartans (7-10, 8-15 overall) will now finish the regular season on the road next week with a game at Fox Valley Lutheran (15-2) and await the seeding for the Division 2 pairings for the WIAA tournament that will come out on Sunday afternoon.

Waupaca fell to 5-12 and 5-17 overall.

The next Luxemburg-Casco broadcast game will be next Friday as the Lady Spartans travel to take on West De Pere Phantoms. The broadcast will be on 104.1 WRLU with Paul Schmitt and Reece Robillard on the call.  The game will also be streamed on New Radio Sports Network starting at 6:45 pm, with the pregame show and tip-off set for shortly after 7 pm.
