Spartans post-season hopes dashed with 30-22 loss to Wrightstown on WBDK

Luxemburg-Casco fought hard but came up short Friday night with a 30-22 loss to the Wrightstown Tigers in a North Eastern Conference regular-season finale.

The Spartans fell behind early as Wrightstown scored on their first three offensive drives.  Tailing 14-0 after one quarter, the Spartans were able to get on the board with 11:17 left in the second quarter on a one-yard run by running back Reece Worachek.

Wrightstown led 21-7 at halftime before Spartan quarterback Matt Cravillion scored from 3 yards out to close the gap to 21-14.

The Tigers scored twice to take a 30-14 lead early in the fourth quarter before the Spartans made a late rally with a 12 yard run from Worachek to get within eight points but could not capitalize on two Wrightstown fumbles in the final five minutes.  The Spartans were denied with 36 seconds left on fourth and goal from the one-yard line when Worachek slipped after the hand-off and was stopped short of the goal line.

The Spartans (3-5, 3-6 overall) will now miss the playoffs for the first time in seven years.  Wrightstown (7-1, 7-2 overall) will now wait for the seeding after finishing second in the North Eastern Conference.
