Pitchers' duel goes against Vikings on 105.1 the GOAT

Gibraltar's Noah Greene was good, but Pacelli's Brock Birrenkott was better in the Cardinals' 2-0 regional title clincher over the Vikings Wednesday afternoon in Stevens Point.

Through the first two innings, it was a wonder if either team would get a hit let alone get a run as Green wiggled through trouble and Birrenkott mowed Vikings batters in order. In the third inning, a throwing error by the Vikings proved costly when Peyton Flees drove home courtesy runner Nick  Grywacz to make it 1-0.

The Vikings would finally get a man in scoring position in the fourth inning when Bennett Isaacson got the team's first hit of the day, moving Aaron Brey up 90 feet after he walked, but a strikeout of Aiden Purinton would end the threat. The Vikings would only get to second base one other time in the game when Rylan Caldecott singled and then stole second base, only to have Birrenkott spoil their hopes again. The Cardinals would get an insurance run in the sixth inning when they took advantage of another throwing error and Keltin Opper drew a bases-loaded walk to score the other tally.

Both Greene and Birrenkott went the distance for their respective teams, but it was the latter that struck out 10 Vikings batters compared to three for Greene.

The  Cardinals advance to Tuesday's sectional in Athens while the Vikings saw their season end with a 14-13 mark, providing a sad ending for the careers of the team's nine seniors.

Gibraltar baseball gets past Rosholt, travels to Pacelli on 105.1 The GOAT

The Gibraltar Vikings are moving on to the regional final after winning its seesaw battle against Rosholt 3-2 in Fish Creek on 105.1 The GOAT.

The Vikings scored the game's first run in the bottom of the first inning when Will Friedenfels drove in Brady Kita to make it 1-0. The Hornets would tie things at one when they executed a double steal with Matthew Ostrowski at the plate that brought home John Roota. The Vikings would retake the lead an inning later when Carl Burgess hit a single up the middle to drive in Aiden Purinton to make it 2-1. Friedenfels drove in what proved to be an important insurance run in the fifth inning on a sacrifice fly to bring home Kita again to make 3-1. The Hornets would score a single tally in the sixth inning, but they would get no closer as Bennett Issacson finished the complete game with his sixth strikeout of the game.

Kita and Purinton each had two hits while Friedenfels, Aaron Brey, Hayden Reetz, and Carl Burgess all had one single. For Rosholt, Cody Studzinski led the way with two hits while Roota and Ostrowski had the RBI.

The Vikings will go for a second straight trip to the sectional tournament when they travel to Pacelli High School in Stevens Point for the regional final. Tim Kowols will have the call on 105.1 The GOAT and NEWRadioSportsNetwork.com beginning at 4:15 p.m. with the pregame show followed by the first pitch at 4:30 p.m.

Gibraltar/Washington Island opens WIAA Baseball Tournament vs. Rosholt on 105.1 The GOAT

The Gibraltar/Washington Island Vikings will end their nearly weeklong layoff Tuesday afternoon when they host the Rosholt Hornets in the second round of the WIAA Baseball Tournament.

The Vikings ended their season with a manic stretch that saw them play eight games in eight days, including three doubleheaders. They went 5-3, earning doubleheader sweeps against Peshtigo and Sturgeon Bay while losing their season finale against top-ranked Coleman. The Vikings had several players make the Packerland All-Conference Team, including First Teamers Brady Kita (catcher) and Rylan Caldecott (outfield), Second Teamers Noah Greene (pitcher), Bennett Issacson (pitcher), Aiden Purinton (infield), and Honorable Mention designees Will Friedenfels (outfield) and Aaron Brey (utility/DH).

The Hornets enter the game 8-11 and are coming off a 9-0 win against Almond-Bancroft on Thursday in their WIAA opener. They have been streaky to end the season, following a four-game streak with a stretch where they went 1-4, including getting shut out three times.

Tim Kowols will have the call on 105.1 The GOAT and NEWRadioSportsNetwork.com beginning at 4:15 p.m. with the pregame show followed by the first pitch at 4:30 p.m. If the Vikings win, 105.1 The GOAT will carry Wednesday's regional final when they host Lena or play at Pacelli.

Cougars bite Vikings in baseball regular season finale

The Gibraltar Vikings saw their regular season come to an end on Monday, losing to state-ranked Coleman 8-0.

The Cougars scored five runs within the first two innings against Bennett Isaacson before tacking on three more against Aaron Brey in the fifth inning. Tyler Renne led the way for the Cougars, going 2-4 with three RBI. Ray LeMieux III performed well at the plate and on the mound for the Cougars, knocking in two runs and keeping the Vikings under wraps with three scoreless innings while striking out four.

The Vikings had most of their success against pitcher Brady Dufeck, collecting four hits in his four innings of work. Carl Burgess, Hayden Reetz, Nathan Merkel, and Brady Kita all singled in the loss.

The Vikings will open tournament play next Tuesday at home. The game will be carried on 105.1 The GOAT and NEWRadioSportsNetwork.com.

Gibraltar baseball heads to Coleman for regular season finale

The Gibraltar Vikings will play one more game ahead of their week layoff before the WIAA Tournament begins when they battle Coleman on the road Monday.

A day after Gibraltar was handed two losses by Oconto, they found that winning stroke in Manitowoc on Saturday as they beat Roncalli 8-2. Brady Kita had one of his best games offensively for the Vikings as he had four hits, collected an RBI, and stole two bases en route to scoring three runs. Will Friedenfels rebounded from a tough day in Oconto to register a pair of hits and three RBI thanks to a double. Marshall Maltby and Rylan Caldecott each had a pair of hits while Aaron Brey and Bennett Isaacson helped the cause with run-scoring hits.

The Cougars are a perfect 18-0 on the season winning the Marinette & Oconto Conference by four games. The team features a potent offensive lineup, scoring over 11 runs 13 times.

The game is scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m.

Gibraltar baseball rebounds against Roncalli

The combination of Noah Greene, Jack Duffy, and Kita took care of the rest as they combined to give up the two runs on five hits while striking out six on the day.

The Vikings will get a little rest before they open tournament play on May 30th.

Blue Devils' blasts lead to sweep over Vikings on 105.1 The GOAT

Two solo shots in the first game and a three-run bomb in the second game led the Oconto Blue Devils to a doubleheader sweep over Gibraltar on Friday evening 3-0 and 10-2.

Game one was a pitcher's duel between the Vikings' Bennett Isaacson and the Blue Devils' Conner Christensen. While Isaacson pitched to contact led to three perfect innings to start the game, Christensen's ability to strike out Vikings remained a constant. The Blue Devils' scored the game's first run in the bottom of the fourth when Kadin Baxter's deep fly out to left field drove in  Cooper Campsure to make it 1-0. It would stay that way until the bottom of the sixth when Kyle Bowman and Christensen homered in consecutive at-bats to make it 3-0. Christensen struck out 14 Vikings batters, with Aiden Purinton's two singles and Brady Kita's single the only two signs that they had solved the Blue Devils'pitcher. Isaacson went the distance, striking out four while allowing a trio of hits and runs in the game.

The two teams did not waste any time in the second game scoring, with the Blue Devils plating three runs in the opening frame. The Vikings would nearly match that offense with Rylan Caldecott stealing home in the first inning and Hayden Reetz's RBI single making it 3-2 after three innings. The Blue Devils would blow the game open in the fourth when Ethan Wusterbarth drove in two runs on a single and Bowman would knock in three on his second homer of the afternoon. The  Blue Devils would chip in another two runs in the sixth inning on a double play ball hit by Christensen. The Vikings, meanwhile, were held hitless in the third, fourth, fifth, and sixth innings before registering two singles in the final frame.

Gibraltar finishes the week off with a game on the road against Roncalli at 11 a.m. The Jets are 4-14 on the season, but they have won two straight games against NEW Lutheran 11-1 and Brillion 6-5 to end their regular season on a high note.

Gibraltar continues doubleheader streak at Oconto on 105.1 The GOAT

The Gibraltar Vikings go for their third straight doubleheader sweep on Friday when they travel to Oconto.

After dropping four straight games last week, the Vikings have won all four of their games this week across two doubleheaders against Peshtigo and Sturgeon Bay. The Vikings' offense has been clicking this week as they have scored at least eight runs in all four wins. The pitching has done its part as well as they outscored the Bulldogs and the Clippers by a combined 41-6.

The Blue Devils hold an identical record (10-4) and run differential (+54) in Packerland Conference play. Oconto has won five straight games, including doubleheader sweeps against Algoma and Sevastopol over the last seven days. Their offense is also hitting its stride, scoring 10 or more runs in three straight games.

Tim Kowols will have the call from Oconto beginning at 3:45 p.m. with the pregame show followed by the first pitch at 4 p.m. The games will also be streamed at 1051TheGOAT.com and NEWRadioSportsNetwork.com.

Gibraltar softball sees season's end in Howards Grove on 105.1 The GOAT

The Gibraltar Vikings softball team saved one of its most exciting and best efforts of the season for what proved to be its final game of the season, a 9-4 loss to Howards Grove in the opening round of the WIAA Softball Tournament.

At first, it seemed like the Vikings would fall into the same dire straits they had found themselves in all season long, allowing four runs in the opening frame as the Tigers registered five hits while sending 10 batters to the plate. Emile Glocke settled in after that, allowing just three hits and two runs over the following three innings.

The Vikings were equally frustrating to Tigers pitcher Dani Demorow, getting at least two runners on in each of the first five innings. They would break through in the third inning when a fielder's choice by Courtney Foy drove in Pam Prescott after her ground-rule double to make 4-1 in the third inning. After the Tigers regained their four-run advantage, the Vikings plated two runs in the fourth thanks to a bases-clearing double by Berkley Schwab. It was 6-3 when the Vikings would strike again, this time on RBI single by Glocke that drove home Addison Richmond. The Vikings would get no closer as their offense stalled in the sixth inning and the Tigers would score three times in their half of the frame with Hailey Vandehei taking home on a passed ball while Reina Sharl and Emily Binverse collected RBI hits. The Vikings went down in order in the seventh inning, the only time it happened to either team all game long.

Prescott and Glocke led the Vikings offensively with two hits. For the Tigers, Demrow helped her cause by getting on base three times and scoring twice in the win. Sharl and Binverse each had two hits and at least one RBI.

The Vikings finish winless on the season but with the arrow pointing up toward next season.

Gibraltar softball begins WIAA journey at Howards Grove on 105.1 The GOAT

Their first win in two years would extend the season for the Gibraltar softball team as they travel to Howards Grove for the WIAA Softball Tournament opener.

The Vikings are coming off a 13-2 loss to Roncalli in their season finale on Tuesday. The Jets notched five runs in the fourth inning that ultimately helped shorten the contest. The Vikings were able to touch up reliever Michaela Eisner for two runs after being held to just one hit by the starting pitcher Gretchen Kapic. The six runs scored this week (two on Tuesday, four on Monday) are the most runs the Vikings have scored in a week since scored 11 runs in losses to NEW Lutheran and Sheboygan Lutheran. Head coach Cambria Mueller says they have been celebrating the small wins all season long and she is happy with how the team has responded to the adversity they face.

The Tigers finished their season 7-16 and are on a four-game losing streak entering the playoff match-up. A 9-6 win in the second game of a doubleheader against Manitowoc Lutheran on May 9th is their only win since a two-game winning streak in late April. The Tigers can put up some runs, however, scoring five or more runs in 12 of their 23 games.

Tim Kowols will have the call on 105.1 The GOAT beginning at  4:15 p.m. with the pregame show followed by the first pitch at 4:30 p.m. The game can also be streamed on 1051TheGOAT.com and NEWRadioSportsNetwork.com.

Vikings ride hot streak to second straight doubleheader sweep

Head coach Jay Kita has said this season that his boys like the warmer weather, and it showed once again Tuesday as the Gibraltar Vikings baseball team beat Sturgeon Bay 8-2 and 15-3.

In game one, Aaron Brey tallied three hits while teammates Will Friedenfels, Bennett Isaacson, and Marshall Maltby each registered two knocks. The Vikings poured it on late with three runs in each of the final two frames. Noah Greene nearly went the distance before giving up two runs in the seventh inning while striking out nine. The Clippers' Danny Lodl nearly matched him, going five innings and giving up two runs while striking out six. Garrett Ulberg knocked in one of the two runs for the Clippers, who along with Lodl and Gavin Fernandez had two hits.

In game two, an eight-run third inning and a six-run fourth inning ended the festivities early at Memorial Field for the Vikings. They were helped by 14 walks issued by Clippers pitchers. Brady Kita and Friedenfels were the only two players for the Vikings to register multiple hits, but they made those hits count as they combined to drive in seven runs. Brey also had three RBI at the plate while also pitching the final three innings of the game, fanning six Clippers along the way. Bryce Plzak led the way for the Clippers offensively, going 1-3 with an RBI double.

The Vikings are back in action on Friday when they play their third straight doubleheader on Friday at Oconto. Tim Kowols will have the call on 105.1 The GOAT and NEWRadioSportsNetwork.com.

Gibraltar baseball pounds Peshtigo in doubleheader sweep, faces Sturgeon Bay Tuesday

The Gibraltar Vikings broke out of their nearly week-long skid with two wins against Peshtigo on Monday, winning the games 9-0 and 9-1.

In game one, Bennett Isaacson for Gibraltar and Landon Beyer for Peshtigo looked destined for a duel with both pitchers holding their opponents scoreless through two. While Isaacson held strong for four more innings of scoreless ball, the Vikings got to Beyer in the third with three runs thanks in part to a hit by Brady Kita and a pair of errors. The Vikings would earn their runs in the fourth inning with Rylan Caldecott tripling home one run and scoring on a throwing error and Aaron Brey hitting a two-run homer to cap off a four-run inning. A collection hit batsmen and an RBI sacrifice fly by Caldecott capped off the scoring for the Vikings. Kita had three hits to lead the Vikings offensively while Isaacson kept the Bulldogs under wraps with six strikeouts.

In game two, it was more of a bullpen game for the Vikings as they balanced the wants of Monday and the needs of Tuesday's doubleheader at Sturgeon Bay and Friday's twin bill at Oconto. The Vikings would not wait as long in the second contest, scoring three runs in the second inning as Hayden Reetz and Noah Greene helped drive in runners. The Bulldogs would answer with their only run of the day when Caleb Proft doubled home Canon Bickel to make it 3-1 after two innings. The Vikings would tack on two runs in the fourth, three in the sixth, and a final tally in the seventh inning. Caldecott had three hits while Brey and Carl Burgess each added two hits. The Vikings took advantage of six Bulldogs errors to extend innings, including in two plate appearances by Kita. Isaacson and Jack Duffy appeared in both games while Brey, Aiden Purinton, and Kita entered the game as pitchers in the second game.

The Vikings are back in action on Tuesday when they play Sturgeon Bay for a twin bill beginning at 4:30 p.m.

Vikings softball to battle Bulldogs

The Gibraltar Vikings will have a tall task in front of them on Monday as they welcome the conference-leading Peshtigo Bulldogs to Fish Creek.

The Vikings are still winless on the season after being swept by Oconto last Friday 19-0 and 15-0. The team has only scored two runs this month, both single tallies a week apart from each other while dropping all six games.

The Bulldogs are on the opposite side of the pendulum, still boasting an undefeated record after beating Kewaunee once on Friday and Northland Pines twice on Saturday.

Games begin at 4 p.m.

Gibraltar continues busy stretch vs. Peshtigo on 105.1 The GOAT

The Gibraltar Vikings continue one of their busiest stretches of baseball in recent memory on Monday with a pair of games against Peshtigo.

After playing five games in seven days last week to mixed results, the Vikings will play six games this week when they play doubleheaders against Peshtigo Monday, Sturgeon Bay on Tuesday, and Oconto on Friday. The Vikings lost four of their five games last week, including a 7-4 loss Saturday to Kewaunee at Fox Cities Stadium. After a rough second inning, the Vikings' pitching staff was able to hold down the potent Storm offense before both teams emptied the benches to give all the kids the experience of playing on a minor-league baseball field. The Vikings were able to chip away in subsequent innings, with Brady Kita scoring on an Aaron Brey single that squeaked past Kewaunee's Carlson. The  Vikings made one more push in the sixth inning, with Liam Lindenberg drawing a bases-loaded walk and Owen Dannhausen hitting an RBI single. The Storm's Waylon Delain ended any hope of a threat in the seventh inning, striking out the side to end the game. Vikings head coach Jay Kita was upbeat about his team's performance to cap off the week, but he is also extremely aware of the challenges this week has in store.

The Bulldogs split their doubleheader against Sturgeon Bay, which ended a four-game losing streak amid a 4-9 season. They end their week with a loss to Sturgeon Bay and to Little Chute.

Tim Kowols will have the call on 105.1 The GOAT and NEWRadioSportsNetwork.com beginning at 3:45 p.m. and the first pitch at 4:00 p.m. The second game will begin about 15 minutes after the first contest is over.

Gibraltar rally falls short vs. Kewaunee on 105.1 The GOAT

The Gibraltar Vikings came back late, but ultimately could not absorb the storm of a six-run second inning in a 7-4 loss to Kewaunee Saturday evening at Fox Cities Stadium.

Each team tried their hardest to get all of their players into the special matchup that followed a 4-2 win by the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers over the South Bend Cubs. More than 40 players appeared in the game, including six pitchers for Gibraltar and seven pitchers for Kewaunee.

The Vikings opened the scoring in the first inning when Rylan Caldecott took advantage of a wild pitch to make it 1-0. The Storm answered when Mitchel Thompson's single drove in Payton Kohnle. After the Vikings went 1-2-3 in their half of the second inning, the Storm batted around against Bennett Isaacson with Caleb Schaller, Collin Spranger, Kohnle, Owen Carlson, and Cal Ihlenfeldt recording hits.

The Vikings' pitching clamped down the Storm's offense after that, allowing just two hits and four total baserunners after that.

The Vikings will play Peshtigo in a home doubleheader on Monday. Tim Kowols will have the call on 105.1 The GOAT and NEWRadioSportsNetwork.com beginning at 4:15 p.m. with the pregame show, followed by the first pitch at 4:30 p.m. The Storm will go up against Southern Door in a doubleheader at the same time.

Vikings can't escape innings vs. Mishicot on 105.1 The GOAT

The Gibraltar Vikings baseball team struggled to close out innings Friday evening in Mishicot in their 13-0 defeat to the Indians.

In each of the first three innings, the Vikings' pitching staff would record two outs quickly, only to see the Indians battle back to put up crooked numbers and make it a 12-0 game entering the fourth inning.

Aaron Brey gave the Vikings their first base runner in the first inning on a single, but would advance no further after Ethan Gnadt recorded the third of his eight strikeouts. The Indians' onslaught would start with two outs in the first when Brady Urbanak tripled home the first run and Ben Griffey drove him home in the very next at-bat. The game's biggest blow came a few batters later when Ashton Ayotte cleared the bases with a double to make it 5-0.

Gnadt would record 1-2-3 innings in the second and third frames against the Vikings while the Indians tacked on more runs. An error in the outfield drove in two runs while two throwing errors led to some of the five runs in the third. Brady Kita doubled in the fourth innings, but Gnadt recorded three straight outs to keep him stranded.

Reed Strupp proved to provide the fatal blow in the bottom of the fourth inning after the Vikings were held scoreless in the top of the fifth, ending the game early.

The Vikings will return to action on Saturday when they play Kewaunee at Fox Cities Stadium in Grand Chute following the conclusion of Timber Rattlers/Cubs game. Tim Kowols will have the call beginning on 105.1 The GOAT and NEWRadioSportsNetwork.com.

Gibraltar softball looks to get right against Oconto

The Gibraltar softball team hopes Friday is the day they get their first win in the Packerland Conference when Oconto plays their host.

The Kewaunee softball team needed less than four innings in either game to dismantle Gibraltar by scores of 22-1 and 16-0 on Tuesday afternoon. In game one, Pam Prescott drove in the only run on an RBI fielder's choice. Abby Jarosh and Megan Gallant collected the only hits on the day for the Vikings in the second game. The Vikings are still looking for their first win since 2021.

The Blue Devils did not fare much better in their Packerland doubleheader earlier this week as heard on U 102.1. The Southern Door Eagles rode big innings in both games of the doubleheader they played against the Oconto Blue Devils, winning the first game in 3 innings 16-1 and winning game two 19-9.

First pitch is set for 4:30 p.m.

Vikings baseball head south for non-conference bout vs. Mishicot

The Gibraltar baseball team will take another break from Packerland play for a non-conference matchup against Mishicot on Friday afternoon.

The Vikings have struggled the last few weeks, battling the weather and tough competition en route to dropping six of their last seven games. Their lone win during that span came on Monday when the Vikings baseball team scored 10 runs across their final two frames to run away from Hilbert 13-3 in seven innings. After trading runs in the first inning, the Vikings tacked on single tallies in the second and third innings before exploding for four in the fifth and six in the sixth. Freshman phenom Aaron Brey led the Vikings offensively with three hits and four RBI on the afternoon.  Bennett Isaacson and Aiden Purinton each added two hits while seven players had at least one RBI. The team most recently dropped both ends of a doubleheader to Kewaunee 10-1 and 9-1.

The Indians come into the game 6-7 on the year and 4-3 in the Big East Conference. They already handled one Packerland opponent this week, beating Sevastopol 10-0 on Tuesday. That was their second straight win in a stretch that has seen them split their last six games.

Listen to our full interview with head coach Jay Kita here

Tim Kowols will call the action on 105.1 The GOAT and NEWRadioSportsNetwork.com beginning at 4:15 p.m. with the pregame show followed by the first pitch at 4:30 p.m. It is the first of our weekend full of baseball on 105.1 The GOAT, which also includes Gibraltar and Kewaunee playing at Fox Cities Stadium on Saturday and Sister Bay visiting West Jacksonport on the opening day of the Door County Baseball League season.

Errors sink Vikings baseball vs. Kewaunee

The Gibraltar Vikings' baseball team could not generate the offense needed to mask their mistakes in the field on Tuesday losing both ends of a doubleheader by the scores of 10-1 and 9-1.

In the first game, the Vikings committed seven errors while the Storm scored in every inning but the seventh to win 10-1. Owen Carlson led the way offensively for the Storm, going 2-4 with three RBI while Payton Kohnle, Cal Ihlenfeldt, Mitchell Thompson, Caleb Schaller, and Braxton Riha all knocked in one of their own. Ihlenfeldt went the distance, striking out 10 Vikings with an RBI hit by Rylan Caldecott his lone blemish on the afternoon. Noah Greene took the loss as he gave up four runs across three innings.

In game two, the Vikings cut down on their mistakes but the hits kept coming for Kewaunee as they won 9-1. The Storm registered 12 hits in the contest, led by Carlson's three knocks to go along with another two RBI. Ihlenfeldt went 2-4 with three RBI. Braden Kita led the Vikings offensively in game two, going 2-3 with a home run in the sixth inning. Schaller nearly matched Ihlenfeldt's effort in the second game by going six innings, allowing a run but striking 10 out along the way. Bennett Isaacson took the loss, allowing five runs across four innings.

The two teams face off against each other again on Saturday at Fox Cities Stadium after the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers face the South Bend Cubs. The game will air on 105.1 The GOAT and NEWRadioSportsNetwork.com with Tim Kowols and Jacob Nate on the call.

Reisen, girls' 4x800m shines for Gibraltar track

The Gibraltar track teams won two events posted several podium finishes and personal records at Tuesday's Algoma Invitational.

For the girls, McKailey Reisen captured top honors in the long jump to join the 4x800m relay on top of the podium. The team's athletes posted 13 personal records to go along with their three other top-three peformances.

The boys had no champions, but the 4x100 and 4x200 came close with runner-up performances. Two others came in the top three in the meet.

Gibraltar softball looks to bounce back against Kewaunee

The Gibraltar softball team will have to bounce back quickly from a loss on Tuesday when they host Kewaunee for a pair on Tuesday.

In a 10-0 five-inning loss to Sturgeon Bay on Monday, Annika Schoeneman went the distance for the Clippers, allowing just one single to Gibraltar's Pam Prescott while striking out seven. Emile Glocke took the loss for the Vikings, allowing seven runs on seven hits across four innings of work. She struck out three Clippers but walked five on the afternoon.

After falling to Sevastopol 12-2 and 7-2, Kewaunee has lost three of their last five games, after starting their season on a 5-1 note. At 7-4, the Storm sit fourth in the Packerland Conference, just a game behind the Eagles of Southern Door.

The games begin at 4 p.m.

Gibraltar baseball pours it on late against Hilbert

The Gibraltar Vikings baseball team scored 10 runs across their final two frames to run away from Hilbert 13-3 in seven innings.

Pitching-wise, it was a bullpen day with six different pitchers throwing no more than 1 2/3 innings. The staff allowed just one earned run and four hits while garnering nine strikeouts. It was the Vikings' first game in over a week ahead of a busy stretch that will keep them at home Tuesday against Kewaunee before heading to Mishicot on Friday and Fox Cities Stadium in Grand Chute on Saturday to face Kewaunee. NEWRadioSportsNetwork.com and 105.1 The GOAT will carry coverage for the Friday and Saturday games.

Gibraltar baseball welcomes Hilbert

The Gibraltar baseball team hopes to break a long layoff with a non-conference matchup against Hilbert Monday afternoon.

The Vikings had won seven of their first eight games prior to their recent four-game losing streak. The Vikings have given up at least seven runs in each of the four games and allowed double-digit totals during last weekend's games against host Adams-Friendship and St. Mary's Springs. The pitching and defense had otherwise been keeping opponents at bay, allowing 20 fewer runs during the previous eight games (22 runs allowed) than they have in the last four contests (42 runs allowed last week). Kita feels confident that his team will be able to turn it around, especially after facing two top teams in the state in Wisconsin Dells.

Hilbert has lost six of their last seven games and they are just 2-10 on the year. They have been shut out four times this season, including a 13-0 loss to Oostburg in their last game and a 32-0 defeat to Brillion to open the year.

The first pitch is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. in Fish Creek.

Vikings softball sails south to battle Clippers on 105.1 The GOAT

On 105.1 The GOAT, Sturgeon Bay and Gibraltar will duke it out for their first conference win of the season in Sturgeon Bay on Monday afternoon.

Both teams find themselves winless in the Packerland Conference as their offenses have struggled to keep up with the runs they have been giving up. In their 11-1 loss to Crivitz last week, Emile Glocke was on the losing end of the game for the Vikings, surrendering all 11 runs on 13 hits and four walks while striking out just one.

The Clippers have at least tasted victory this season with a win against Elcho by a 19-9 score. Like the Vikings, the Clippers have at an over -80 run differential this season against Packerland opponents. The Clippers have bragging rights over their northern neighbors, beating the Vikings in their lone matchup of last season 22-0.

Tim Kowols will have the call from PBI Field beginning at 4:15 p.m. with the pregame show followed by the first pitch at 4:30 p.m.

Gibraltar posts strong performances at Hilbert Track meet

It only resulted in one event victory, but 25 season and personal records set made the Gibraltar track teams very happy with their performances on Friday at the Hilbert Invitational.

The boys' 4x200m relay represented the Vikings' lone event wins on Friday. Braden Sitte took second in the 200m and third in the high and long jump while Mateo Jauregui matched him in the triple jump. The 4x100m relay also took third.

The girls' were led by McKailey Reisen, who took fourth in the 100m hurdles and second in the high jump. Freshman Bella Jones set a personal record to take second place in the long jump.

Gibraltar track heads to Hilbert

Gibraltar heads to Hilbert for an invitational featuring Chilton, Kaukauna, Green Bay N.E.W. Lutheran, Ozaukee, Roncalli, Sheboygan North, St. Mary Catholic, and Suring. First events begin at 4 p.m.

In their last action, Braden Sitte captured the lone event win for the Gibraltar track teams at the Spartan Invite hosted by Luxemburg-Casco last Thursday afternoon. Sitte leapt to his title with high jump of 5'8. The Vikings boys' team posted four other finishes in the top-five. The girls had no event victories, but came close in several. McKailey Reisen took second in the high jump and saw the 4x800m relay also come home with a silver medal. Five other events saw Vikings in the top five.

Gibraltar falls to Crivitz, takes on Sturgeon Bay next

The Gibraltar Vikings softball team will head to Sturgeon Bay still winless after falling to Crivitz 11-1 on Thursday.

Taryn Tracy was a nightmare for the Vikings, as she led the Wolverines with a pair of doubles and a homer as a part of a 4-4, three RBI day. She also did not allow a hit to the Vikings, which needed to draw two walks to reach base. Emile Glocke was on the losing end of the game for the Vikings, surrendering all 11 runs on 13 hits and four walks while striking out just one.

The Vikings will try to get their first win of the season with a doubleheader against Sturgeon Bay in the county seat beginning at 4:30 p.m.

Gibraltar baseball makes trip to Sturgeon Bay for doubleheader on 105.1 The GOAT

Both Gibraltar and Sturgeon Bay will be happy to just get games in Friday as they battle each other at Memorial Field in a doubleheader.

Gibraltar's Jay Kita and Sturgeon Bay's Neal Henrigrillis both agreed that they have probably had more games than practices outdoors this spring thanks to weather issues. Both teams have had multiple games canceled this week due to wet, cold, and windy conditions.

Sturgeon Bay was scheduled to take on Algoma on Saturday, but that matchup was postponed due to weather conditions making the game unplayable. The Clippers have taken their last two doubleheaders against NEW Lutheran/Providence Academy by scores of 18-8 and 5-4, and defeated Sevastopol 12-2 and 18-8. Sturgeon Bay lost both games to the Eagles last season.

Tim Kowols and Reece Robillard will have the call for game one of the doubleheader on 105.1 The GOAT and NEWRadioSportsNetwork.com beginning at 4:15 p.m. with the pregame show followed by the first pitch at 4:30 p.m.

Gibraltar hopes Crivitz cures winless start

The Gibraltar softball team hopes a one-game foray into the non-conference schedule can lead to their first victory of the season when they host Crivitz on Thursday.

The Vikings have been outscored 148-9 in Packerland Conference play so far this season. They have only scored more than three runs once this season, compared to giving up double-digit totals in all nine of their games. That includes losses to Southern Door last week 22-3 and 11-1.

The Wolverines' offense has found its stroke since it lost to Coleman on April 24th. In their three wins against Menominee Indian, St. Thomas Aquinas, and Gillett/Suring, the Wolverines scored 51 runs while allowing just six runs.

The first pitch is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.

Gibraltar softball looks for first conference win against Peshtigo

The Gibraltar Vikings softball team hopes to generate some offense on Tuesday when they welcome Peshtigo to Fish Creek.

The Vikings have been outscored 148-9 in Packerland Conference play so far this season. They have only scored more than three runs once this season, compared to giving up double-digit totals in all nine of their games. That includes losses to Southern Door last week 22-3 and 11-1.

The Bulldogs sit on top of the Packerland with 10-0 mark. The swept second-place Sevastopol earlier in April and took a pair from Southern Door in their last action on the diamond.

The first pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m. for the doubleheader.

Gibraltar baseball looks to stunt skid vs. Peshtigo on 105.1 The GOAT

The Gibraltar Vikings baseball team looks to stop its longest losing streak of the season on Tuesday when they welcome Peshtigo to Fish Creek.

The Bulldogs are in the middle of their own four-game losing streak which also included a two-game sweep at the hands of Southern Door. Their pitchers struggled against the Eagles' bats even more than the Vikings did, allowing 32 runs across the pair of games. They started the skid with a pair of losses to Algoma.

The doubleheader is scheduled to start at 4 p.m. with Tim Kowols and 105.1 The GOAT beginning its coverage at 3:45 p.m. with the pregame show. High winds may postpone the series, however, so stay tuned for up-to-date details on if the games are played.
