Sturgeon Bay had a heartbreaking draw to Peshtigo but rebounded to Pulaski on Saturday as well. After getting a day of rest, the two teams will battle for the Packerland standings. Vikings pick up homecoming win over Tigers on 105.1 The GOAT

For the first time since 2023, the Gibraltar Vikings earned a win in front of its home fans, topping Gillett 52-14 in their homecoming game on Friday night.

It looked like it was going to be a track meet early with the Vikings' Parker Gallant and Sean Neal exchanging their long touchdown runs with one from the Tigers' Jedric Herzog to make it 13-8 early. While the Vikings were able to stunt the Tigers' offense thanks to two big plays in the backfield by Jake Larson, the Vikings kept paying the endzone visits with two more touchdown runs from Gallant on either side of a Giovanni Mercier scramble for a score to make it 33-8 at the break.

The second half got off to an ominous start with the Vikings punting twice and Clayton Borremans finding the endzone to shrink the Tigers' deficit to 33-14. The Vikings would score their final three possessions of the game with Neal registering a 70-plus yard touchdown run and a 27-yard field goal before Bolivian exchange student and newly minted homecoming king Leo Canudas Castro stutter-stepped his way into the endzone for the final touchdown of the game.

Gibraltar celebrates homecoming with guests from Gillett on 105.1 The GOAT

The Gibraltar Vikings will try to stop a three-game skid on Friday night when they face Gillett for their homecoming festivities.

Injuries proved to be a bigger foe than even their powerful rival, Sevastopol, in its 38-0 loss that saw the game end after two quarters. The Vikings were never able to get their offense on a roll as they struggled to contain the Pioneers' Bo Tanck and Logan Schuh on defense, allowing 175 yards rushing before halftime. With injuries piling up, head coach Mike Peck said postgame that he had to make the hard decision in a rivalry game to preserve the homecoming game this week.

The Tigers have suffered their own growing pains this season. After losing to Three Lakes/Phelps 20-6 in its opener, the Tigers have scored only six points since while allowing at least 45 points in each of their last four games.

Tim Kowols and Dylan Kaye will have the call on 105.1 The GOAT beginning at 6:45 p.m. with the pregame show followed by the kickoff at 7 p.m. The game will also be streamed online at NEWRadioSportsNetwork.com and 1051TheGOAT.com.

Saturday's invitational at Wrightstown featured a neutral-site matchup between conference opponents, Kewaunee and Gibraltar, along with several other contests throughout the day.

Gibraltar's day started with a hard-fought 1-0 loss to Xavier, but the Vikings bounced back with statement wins over Kewaunee and New Holstein (3-0). The Vikings have experienced streaky results this season, winning and losing in bunches, and now sit at 4-4-1 overall.

Up next, both teams face N.E.W. Lutheran in conference play. Gibraltar will host on Monday, while Kewaunee will welcome them on Thursday. Both matches kick off at 6:30 p.m.

Early hole too deep for Vikings comeback on 105.1 the GOAT

Four Sean Neal touchdowns were not enough to erase a 27-0 halftime deficit as Gibraltar lost to Oneida Nation/NEW Lutheran 43-26 Friday night in Fish Creek.

The United jumped on the Vikings early when Kenji Lange nearly took the first carry to the house from 50 yards out, only to have Hayden Schultz finish the job from one yard out to make it 6-0. Bairen Lhost picked him off, but Schultz responded with touchdown passes to Cashe Martin and Brett Gajeski on either side of a 20-yard touchdown run by Evan Monfre to make it 27-0.

After the team honored their parents, the Vikings got off to a fast start courtesy of Neal's legs. Neal opened the half with a four-yard touchdown to put the Vikings on the scoreboard for the first time before he doubled down with a 51-yard score to make it 27-14.

Schultz broke up the Vikings' run with a short touchdown run to extend the United lead out to 35-14. The Vikings scored 12 consecutive points following a Parker Gallant interception, thanks to touchdown runs of five and 13 yards to trim the deficit to 35-26. Schultz put the game on ice for the United when he scored the game's final points on a 60-yard touchdown run.

Neal led the team with 225 yards rushing on 26 carries, with Gallant adding 82 yards and Mercier 59 yards on the ground. Wyatt Bultman led the Vikings with two catches for 29 yards, including a 25-yard gain on the team's final offensive drive. Neal led the team with eight tackles while Finn Bremer added six in the loss.

The Vikings are back in action next Friday when they travel to Institute to take on Sevastopol. 105.1 The GOAT will carry the cross-county matchup beginning at 6:45 p.m. followed by the kickoff at 7 p.m.

The Sturgeon Bay Clippers Soccer team had their hands full in the first half on Thursday night when they battled the Gibraltar/Sevastopol United in Fish Creek.

The first half saw a strong defensive stance by the United team, and it was a breakaway goal in the 32nd minute that gave United a 1-0 lead in the first half.

Coming out of halftime, the Clippers looked sharper and more relaxed. Daniel Wienke, assisted by Will Estes, leveled the match in the 52nd minute. Then, 10 minutes later, Wienke scored his second goal of the night in the 62nd minute (unassisted). Only moments later, Joni Ismaili would score off a turnover for the Clippers in the 65th minute, giving the Clippers a 3-1 lead as the final tally.
