Gibraltar opens cross country season at home

The Gibraltar cross-country teams got to open their season on their home course on Thursday with the Chief Kahquados Invitational.

Gibraltar's Emilie Glocke and Graham Devoe paced the girls and boys' teams respectively in the meet, posting the best times for the Vikings. While there were not enough boys to score points, the girls came in seventh with a score of 168.

United soccer knock out Paladins

The Gibraltar/Sevastopol United boys varsity soccer team continued their winning ways in a home contest on Thursday, August 29, defeating the Providence Academy Paladins 5-1 in Fish Creek.

Senior Christino Valdivia started the scoring with a header goal in the third minute of play. Senior Trey Perlman scored on a penalty kick in the twelfth minute. Junior Damien Lardinois scored the third goal of the first half in minute 25.

Providence got some life early in the second half with a goal by freshman Andrew Rentmeester (43'). United came back to notch goals from juniors Brandon Mayorga (57') and Christian Ruiz (60').

Up next for the 2-0 United following the Labor Day holiday weekend and the start of the school year is an early-season away contest against Packerland Conference arch-rival Sturgeon Bay Clippers on Thursday, September 5 at 6:30pm, followed by tournament play in Winneconne on Saturday, September 7.

Vikings can't slow down Eagles on 105.1 The GOAT

It was a rude welcome to high school football for many of the Gibraltar Vikings players as they lost to Almond-Bancroft on the road 52-0 Thursday night.

The Eagles took control of the game immediately as they scored touchdowns on their first three possessions with quarterback Emmitt Stiles at the controls. He rushed in from inside the 10-yard line for the first score while connecting with Kayden Hageness and Ayden Phillips for touchdown passes to make it 22-0. Phillips would find the endzone again late in the second quarter after Davis Dernbach took a screen pass to the house from 70 yards away to make 34-0 at the break. The only miscue forced by the Vikings was a botched hook and ladder play that defensive back Parker Gallant recovered.

Thanks to a suffocating Eagles defense, the Vikings' offense never got on track in the game. They lost two fumbles in the first half, including one on a field goal attempt that represented the Vikings' best scoring opportunity after the Gallant fumble recovery and a nice run by Will Lecy.

The Eagles padded their lead early in the third quarter with two touchdowns by Hageness and Kaden Martinez. With a running clock and both teams tempting their benches, both teams went unscathed in the fourth quarter, except for a safety given up by the Vikings.

The Vikings will return home next Friday night when they welcome Algoma to Fish Creek. Kickoff for the game will be 7 p.m. and will air on 105.1 The GOAT. The game will act as a fundraiser for the family of Braden Sitte, who is currently fighting cancer.

Gibraltar kicks off season at Almond-Bancroft on 105.1 The GOAT

The new-look Gibraltar Vikings will take the field for the first time Thursday night when they travel to Almond-Bancroft to take on the Eagles.

The Vikings made the playoffs last year, but an injury to Brady Kita derailed their passing game, leading them to lose three of their final four games, including a 52-0 defeat to eventual state champion Florence. Kita's decision to forgo his senior season and the graduation of Braden Sitte and Marshall Maltby means there are no first or second All-Peninsula Conference team performers on this year's squad. Will Lecy is back for his senior campaign after he earned honorable mention honors as a running back and linebacker, as is honorable mention defensive lineman Wyatt Bultman. Head Coach Mike Peck says quarterback Giovanni Mercier and wide receiver Beckett Johnson have played significant leadership roles on the young team, which will be more than a third freshmen.

In their fourth season of eight-man football, the Eagles went 8-2 last year as they saw their year-end against Oakfield in the first round of the playoffs. Emmitt Stiles returns for his junior season after rushing for 790 yards and ten touchdowns last year.

Tim Kowols will have the call from Almond-Bancroft on 105.1 The GOAT beginning at 6:15 p.m. with the pregame show followed by the kickoff at 6:30 p.m. You can also tune in online at NEWRadioSportsNetwork.com and 1051TheGOAT.com

An experienced back line anchored by seniors Yahir Valdivia, co-captain Vince Toneys and junior Marco Jauregui defended well against the Husky attacks, and several saves by junior goalie Aaron Tomaszewski preserved the clean sheet for the keeper.

Gibraltar football to B-Strong for Sitte at home opener September 6th

Gibraltar's home opener against Algoma will be much more than a football game when the two teams take the field in Fish Creek.

The game will serve as a benefit for the family of Braden Sitte, who graduated from Gibraltar in 2024 and was diagnosed with Burkitt's lymphoma weeks before he was to join his new football teammates at UW-LaCrosse.

Proceeds from the concessions, silent auction, raffle baskets, bake sale, and other activities will support his ongoing treatments and associated costs. The activities begin at 6:30 p.m., with kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m.
