Vikings down county rivals, host Reedsville on 105.1 The GOAT Wednesday

The Gibraltar Vikings baseball will return to the regional final on Wednesday after beating Sevastopol 9-2 in Fish Creek Tuesday evening.

The Pioneers took the early 2-0 lead when Carter Bieri went home on a throwing error in the first inning and Tom Junion scored an RBI groundout in the second inning. Gibraltar's Sam Lindenberg settled in after that, allowing just two hits and no runs while striking out seven Pioneers while pitching a complete game.

The Vikings' bats came alive in the second inning when Kevin Krauel scored on a knock and scored three more times in the third to take control of the game for good. Lindenberg helped his own cause with an RBI in the fourth inning and scored on a Cooper Cole triple in the sixth inning. Krauel registered three hits while Hayden Reetz reached base three times.

Tim Kowols and Reece Robillard will carry the action on 105.1 The GOAT and NEWRadioSportsNetwork.com beginning at 4 p.m. with the pregame show followed by the first pitch at 4:30 p.m.

Gibraltar baseball hosts county showdown vs. Sevastopol on 105.1 The GOAT

The Gibraltar Vikings and the Sevastopol Pioneers will have a berth in Thursday's regional final on the line Tuesday afternoon when the two sides meet in Fish Creek.

The Vikings earned the number one seed in the region despite a 7-12 record this season. They did, however, beat Sevastopol earlier this season 17-9 on May 10th. Nate Greene played the role of a stopper in the game, pitching 2 1/3 innings of scoreless ball. Brady Kita had four RBI and Ryan Jorgenson had five RBI in the win. The Vikings concluded their season last Tuesday when they beat Sturgeon Bay 2-0 where Greene pitched seven innings of shutout ball while Will Friedenfels clubbed an RBI.

The Pioneers snapped a five-game losing streak last Thursday when it beat NEW Lutheran 7-2 in the first round of the WIAA Tournament. The Pioneers took control of the game from the first inning, plating three runs in the frame thanks to RBI hits by Cal Ellefson and Tommy Junion. The team would go on to tack on two runs in the third inning and one more in the second. Ellefson, Jack de Young, and Junion all had multiple hits in the game, led by Ellefson's 3-for-3 day. De Young did not need much help as he limited the Blazers to just two runs on two hits while striking out three. Frankie Ash closed things out in the seventh.

Tim Kowols will have the call on 105.1 The GOAT and NEWRadioSportsNetwork.com beginning at 4 p.m. with the pregame show followed by the opening pitch at 4:30 p.m.

Gibraltar puts up strong showing at Rosholt track sectional

Though there were no state qualifiers in the group, the contingent of Gibraltar track athletes still put up strong performances at the WIAA Track and Field Sectional hosted by Rosholt Thursday.

Logan Mitterman, Victor Jauregui, Betsy Lecy, and McKailey Reisen all turned in personal-record performances, even though they were all outside the top four places needed to qualify for the state meet. Lecy turned in two personal record performances in the 1600m and 3200m races.

Vikings' comeback falls short against Blue Devils

The Gibraltar Vikings baseball team nearly came back from a 7-2 deficit, but still lost to Oconto on Monday 7-6.

The Vikings jumped to a 2-0 lead in the first inning, but gave up four runs in the third inning and three more in the fourth to put themselves behind the eight ball midway through the game. The Vikings would not go away quietly as they put up their own three-spot in the bottom of the fifth inning. They would put up one more run in the seventh, but fell just short of tying it up. Brady Kita went 3-4 with a RBI in the game while Rylan Caldecott's triple drove in a pair. Sam Lindenberg and Cooper Cole each had two hits.

Lindenberg took the loss for the Vikings as he gave up seven runs and nine hits across five hits while striking out and walking three men. Riley Anderson had three hits and three RBIs to lead the Blue Devils offensively.

Gibraltar hosts Oconto for make-up doubleheader

The Vikings baseball team will face Oconto in a doubleheader on Monday afternoon, beginning at 4 p.m.

The Blue Devils will try to get a bad taste out of their mouth after losing the game and a share of the Packerland Conference championship Thursday night to Southern Door in an 11-9 decision. They came into the game with a conference leading 8-1 record in the Packerland.

Gibraltar left the mainland for their last game, falling to Southern Door 7-2 on Washington Island Saturday afternoon.

Gibraltar hosts Southern Door for Island matchup

The Gibraltar and Southern Door baseball squads are scheduled to take the ferry for their Washington Island matchup Saturday afternoon.

Saturday's game will be a home game for several members of the Vikings, who are a cooperative team with Washington Island school.

A pair of four-run innings and a great pitching performance from Christian Counard were all the Southern Door Eagles needed to beat the Gibraltar Vikings 8-2 in Fish Creek last weekend.

The Vikings were rained out on Friday, but they beat Hilbert/Stockbridge earlier in the week 10-0 in five innings. The Eagles beat Oconto on Thursday 11-9 to clinch the Packerland Conference and followed it up with a 12-2 win over NEW Lutheran Friday.

After the game, the two teams and their families will have a picnic on the island before heading back. In our preview of the two teams' last game, Gibraltar Jay Kita talked about the significance of the game on Washington Island.

First pitch is scheduled for noon.

Two Vikineers ink NLIs with Edgewood

Two Gibraltar/Sevastopol soccer players will play at the next level this upcoming season.

Earlier this week, Tyler Johnson and Connor Thompson signed their National Letters of Intent to play soccer at Edgewood College.

Johnson finished his senior campaign as an All-Packerland Conference First Team performer as a midfielder, while Thompson was named to the Second Team.

Based in the Madison area, Edgewood College went 0-14-1 last season.

Gibraltar softball's season ends in Crivitz

The Gibraltar Vikings softball team could never get the offense going this season as they lost their WIAA Tournament opener to Crivitz on Thursday 21-0.

The Vikings were no-hit by Nilea Guns, who struck out eight and walked one across three innings. She was no slouch at the plate either with a pair of extra-base hits and an RBI. Alexis Franzmeier registered five RBI and Hailee Gyger was similar with three RBI.

The Vikings end their season winless on the season, giving up 20-plus runs in six of their 10 losses.

Vikings baseball find offense in Hilbert, hosts Oconto doubleheader on 105.1 The GOAT POSTPONED

Note: Gibraltar's baseball games against Oconto have been postponed until Monday. There will be no baseball broadcast on 105.1 The GOAT on Friday as a result.

The Gibraltar Vikings baseball team swung a big stick Thursday night as they beat Hilbert/Stockbridge 10-0 in five innings Thursday.

The Vikings put up four runs in the first and third innings to essentially put the game out of reach early. Brady Kita and Ryan Jorgenson led the way offensively for the Vikings with each registering a pair of hits while it was Cooper Cole driving in a pair. Max Maltby and Carl Burgess also drove in runs for the Vikings.

Jack Duffy sparkled on the mound for the Vikings, going five strong innings as he allowed no runs on three hits while striking out six. A Kevler took the loss for Hilbert/Stockbridge, giving up all 10 runs (nine earned) across 3 2/3 innings on eight hits and four walks.

The Vikings will face Oconto in a doubleheader on Friday afternoon beginning at 4 p.m. The Blue Devils will try to get a bad taste out of their mouth after losing the game and a share of the Packerland Conference championship Thursday night to Southern Door in an 11-9 decision. They came into the game with a conference leading 8-1 record in the Packerland.

Weather permitting, Tim Kowols and Paul Schmitt will have the call beginning at 4 p.m. with the pregame show followed by the first pitch at 4:30 p.m. on 105.1 The GOAT and NEWRadioSportsNetwork.com.

Vikings softball looks for positive note in WIAA opener

The Gibraltar softball team hopes to end their season on a strong note when they face Crivitz in the WIAA Tournament opener Thursday.

The Vikings have struggled this season, getting shut out seven times and giving up more than 20 runs five times during their 0-10 campaign. They showed some spark earlier this week when they lost to NEW Lutheran 18-11.

Crivitz finished the season 8-13 on the year, losing seven of their final nine games.

FIrst pitch is set for 4:30 p.m.

Gibraltar baseball earns top seed, travels to Hilbert/Stockbridge

The Gibraltar baseball team received some good news ahead of Thursday's matchup against Hilbert/Stockbridge.

The Vikings earned the #1 seed in its regional. It will open tournament play on May 31st when they host the winner of their conference rivals Sevastopol and NEW Lutheran.

The Vikings hope to play some better baseball before then, starting Thursday in Hilbert after losing to Wrightstown earlier this week 6-3. Ryan Caldecott, Sam Lindenberg, and Noah Greene all had two hits for Gibraltar and Ryan Jorgenson took the loss giving up five runs in three innings.

Hilbert/Stockbridge has not won since it faced Algoma on April 29th. They have lost seven in a row since then, giving up double-digit run totals in each game.

First pitch is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.

Vikings baseball falls to Wrightstown

The Gibraltar Vikings traveled to Wrightstown Tuesday and dropped a 6-3 decision to the Tigers in a non-conference baseball matchup.  The Tigers jumped on the Vikings early with three runs in the first inning and tacked on single runs in the second and third inning to take a 5-0 lead.

The Vikings fought back with two runs in the sixth and single tally in the seventh, but it was not enough as Wrightstown prevailed.

Ryan Caldecott, Sam Lindenberg, and Noah Greene all had two hits for Gibraltar and Ryan Jorgenson took the loss giving up five runs in three innings.  Greene pitched effectively in the final three innings allowing only one run and striking out one.

Gibraltar baseball heads to Wrightstown

The Gibraltar baseball looks to find their winning ways on the road Tuesday with a non-conference matchup against Wrightstown.

The Vikings' defense has betrayed them for much of the season, leading to the team dropping eight of their last ten games. In their last game, the Vikings could not overcome a strong Southern Door squad in an 8-2 loss.

The Tigers are 11-7 on the season, splitting their last four games against the likes of Little Chute (twice), Brillion, and Waupaca.

The game is set for 4:30 p.m.

Gibraltar girls take third at conference track meet

The Gibraltar track teams had impressive performances in Monday's Packerland Conference Track Championships in Brussels.

The girls took third place overall with Nida Zukauskaite high jumping her way to a win and a personal record. McKailey Reisen, Zukauskaite, and Aria Nordahl also earned second-place finishes in their respective events.

The boys took fifth despite no individual event wins. Angel Jauregui (triple jump), Connor Thompson (pole vault), the 4x200m relay, and Victor Jauregui (200m and 110m hurdles) earned silver in their events.

Gibraltar softball hosts NEW Lutheran

The Gibraltar softball team hopes to build some positive momentum heading towards its Thursday WIAA Tournament opener on Thursday when they host NEW Lutheran on Monday.

The Vikings have struggled to get off the diamond defensively this season, giving up 20 runs in five of their eight losses this season. They did have their best scoring output of the season on Friday when they scored two runs against Southern Door in the final inning of their 23-2 loss. They will play Crivitz on Thursday at 4:30 in their tournament opener. That game will be broadcast on 105.1 The GOAT.

The Blazers have lost seven straight, including a 10-0 loss to Southern Door in their last game.

First pitch is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.

Gibraltar hosts Southern Door on 105.1 The GOAT

Gibraltar will battle Southern Door for a doubleheader at Billerbeck Field in Fish Creek after a night of mixed results for both teams.

The Vikings struggled again against Kewaunee, losing their game 12-2. Brady Kita had a pair of hits for the Vikings, while Sam Lindenberg and Cooper Cole registered RBI. An eight-run third inning for the Storm ultimately doomed the Vikings. Thomas Stangel and Cal Ihlenfeldt collected three RBI apiece, while Ihlenfeldt pitched all five innings, allowing one run on six hits with six strikeouts.

The Eagles were scheduled for a doubleheader against Oconto, but no results were posted and were possibly affected by Thursday's storm pattern. They mercy-ruled Green Bay East/West earlier in the week.

Tim Kowols and Quinn Struck will have the call at 4:00 p.m. with the pregame show followed by the first pitch at 4:30 p.m. on 105.1 The GOAT and NEWRadioSportsNetwork.com.

Vikings baseball visit Kewaunee Thursday

The Gibraltar Vikings hit the road on Thursday to face Kewaunee in a Packerland matchup.

In a game that saw a combined 32 hits and 26 runs scored, the Vikings outslugged the Sevastopol Pioneers 17-9 in Fish Creek.  Ryan Jorgenson had a grand slam and five RBIs to lead the Vikings' attack.

The Storm dropped their game to Oconto earlier this week. They did best the Vikings 5-3 on Saturday when the two teams faced each other at Fox Cities Stadium.

Game time is set for 4:30 p.m.

Vikings outslug Pioneers 17-9

In a game that saw a combined 32 hits and 26 runs scored, the Gibraltar/Washington Island Vikings outslugged the Sevastopol Pioneers 17-9 in Fish Creek.  Ryan Jorgenson had a grand slam and five RBIs to lead the Vikings attack.   The Vikings jumped to a 5-0 lead in the second inning, only to see the Pioneers respond with four runs in the top of the third to get right back into the game.  The onslaught of scoring continued as Giblraltar/Washington Island put the game away with a six-run sixth inning.  Ryan Caldecott had four hits and Brady Kita added four RBIs to complement Jorgenson’s grand slam.  Noah Greene picked up the win in relief, pitching 2.1 innings of hitless ball.

Silver lining for Gibraltar track at Hilbert Invite

There were no event wins, but the Gibraltar track team were on the doorstep of several during Friday's track meet hosted by Hilbert on Friday.

Victor Jauregui took second in the 110m hurdles while Angel Jauregui brought home silver with a personal record in the triple jump. Connor Thompson set a season record of 11 feet in the pole vault to take second in that event.

For the girls, Nida Zukauskaite took second in the high jump.

Gibraltar hosts Packerland Golf meet Thursday

Peninsula Golf Course will be the site of Thursday's Packerland Conference golf meet hosted by Gibraltar.

NEW Lutheran/Providence Academy, Oconto, Peshtigo, Sevastopol, Southern Door, and Sturgeon Bay will also participate.

All Door County teams trailed Oconto, but it was Sturgeon Bay that had the upper hand over all other Door County at Monday's Packerland Conference Meet at The Orchards in Egg Harbor.

The Clippers scored 186 over nine holes, just one stroke behind first-place Oconto. Southern Door took fourth with a score of 193, while Sevastopol and Gibraltar did not have enough golfers to score as a team.

Tee time is set for 4 p.m.

Gibraltar's bats welcome Sturgeon Bay to Fish Creek

The Gibraltar baseball and softball teams will stay at home Thursday to face county rival Sturgeon Bay.

The Vikings baseball team was stymied by Algoma's Javen Charles on Tuesday in 2-0 loss. The team registered five hits but could not push any of them across as they saw their record drop to 4-4. On Monday evening, Sturgeon Bay traveled to Kewaunee to play a doubleheader and lost by scores of 8-2 and 2-1.

The Vikings softball team lost its game earlier this week 29-0 as they remain winless on the season. The Clippers are 2-4 on the year, but looking for their first Packerland victory after being swept by Southern Door.

Games begin at 4:30 p.m.

Gibraltar softball hosts Sevastopol

The Gibraltar softball team will try for its first win of the season when county rival Sevastopol visits Fish Creek.

The Vikings were blown out 17-1 in its only game so far this year against Coleman.

The Pioneers have lost their last two games after starting the year 4-0. Those losses include a 6-0 defeat against Peshtigo and 10-4 decision to Oconto.

First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m.
