Gibraltar's Lindenberg adds All-District Honors for baseball

Gibraltar's Sam Lindenberg continued his strong senior campaign with another district honor.

Much like he did for football and basketball, Lindenberg was named to the Wisconsin Baseball Coaches Association All-District Team as an honorable mention player.

The WBCA’s North East District, which includes the Big East, Eastern Wisconsin, Fox Valley Association, Fox River Classic, Northeastern, Packerland Conferences. For a player to be chosen, he must be nominated by his head coach, who must be a member of the Wisconsin Baseball Coaches Association.

Baseball players garners All-Conference nods for Gibraltar

Four members of Gibraltar's regional champion baseball team were recognized last week with All- Packerland Conference honors.

Sam Lindenberg led the way with first-team honors, following up similar placement on the fall (football) and winter (basketball) teams.

The baseball team saw their season end on Tuesday in Rosholt when they lost to eventual sectional runner-up Iola-Scandinavia 6-1.

Gibraltar falls late to Iola-Scandinavia on 105.1 The GOAT

A sixth-inning rally by Iola-Scandinavia proved fatal for the Gibraltar baseball as they lost their sectional semi-final game 6-1 in Rosholt Thursday afternoon.

The Vikings' Noah Greene and the Thunderbirds' Parker Gullixon both pitched well enough for their teams to stay in contention for the first five innings of play. Sam Lindenberg turned his two-out single into a run when he scored on a passed ball to make it 1-0 in the first inning. Both pitchers would have to get out of bases-loaded jams in the middle innings. Gullixon helped his cause in the fifth inning when he took Greene deep to right field to tie the game at 1-1 after five innings.

Greene would be unable to get an out in the sixth inning, forcing head coach Jay Kita to go to Lindenberg with the bases loaded. A bases-loaded walk started a four-run rally for the Thunderbirds to make 5-1. The Vikings would load the bases in the sixth inning but Lindenberg flew out to the left fielder Will Tappa to end the threat. The Thunderbirds added a insurance run in the seventh and the Vikings went 1-2-3 in the bottom half of the inning to end the season.

Will Friedenfels and Sam Lindeberg each registered a pair of hits in the game and Kevin Krauel collected the lone RBI. Isaiah Hoyard, Gullixon, Jackson Fredy, and Gavin Hoyard had multi-hit games for the Thunderbirds ahead of their night cap against Oakfield.

Gibraltar baseball looks to punch ticket to state on 105.1 The GOAT

The Gibraltar baseball team hopes a second trip to Fox Cities Stadium this season is in the cards on Tuesday when they play in the WIAA Division 4 Sectionals.

The Vikings earned their place with a pair of home victories against Sevastopol and Reedsville last week. Their pitching set the tone with Sam Lindenberg and Noah Greene allowing just three runs across 14 innings. Hayden Reetz shined offensively in both games, getting on base three times against Sevastopol and collecting one of the RBI on a single against the Tigers.

The Vikings' first game will be against Iola-Scandinavia, which is currently 8-16 on the season but has won its first three playoff games. The T-Birds beat Pittsville 15-7 in order to be crowned regional champs.

Tim Kowols and Reece Robillard will have the call on 105.1 The GOAT and NEWRadioSportsNetwork.com beginning at 12:00 p.m. with the pregame show followed by the first pitch at 12:30 p.m. A Vikings win would mean they would play again at 6 p.m. against the winner of the Oakfield/Fall River game. Pre-game coverage for that game on 105.1 The GOAT and NEWRadioSportsNetwork.com would begin at 5:30 p.m.

Gibraltar clinches sectional berth on 105.1 The GOAT

Noah Greene matched Sam Lindenberg's Tuesday performance with a complete game while the offense took care of the rest in Gibraltar's regional championship win over Reedsville 3-1.

The Panthers struck first when Tristian Eichorst helped his own cause with a run-scoring single in the opening frame. While miscommunication put runners on second and third with two outs, Greene was able to get out of a jam he would not experience until the sixth inning after retiring 14 consecutive hitters.

The Vikings' patience paid off big in their half of the first inning when three walks led to runs scored on Cooper Cole's groundout to the shortstop and Ryan Jorgenson's fly out to centerfield. Eichorst held the Vikings hitless until the fourth inning when Jorgenson moved Cole along the basepaths before Hayden Reetz drove him home on an RBI single.

Two men on the top of the sixth was the closest the Panthers would get, but Greene went on to strike out the side to end the threat. He faced the minimum in the seventh to capture the victory for the Vikings.

Jorgenson led the way offensively with two hits.

The Vikings will now head to Rosholt on Tuesday to play Iola-Scandinavia in the sectional semifinal at 12:30 p.m.. If they win, the Vikings would play the winner of Oakfield and Fall River at 6 p.m.
