Gibraltar's Jackson, Gorham receive lone Packerland nods

Kayin Jackson and Mikala Gorham mustered the only All-Packerland Conference nods when the teams were announced over the weekend.

Both players made the second-team for their respective All-Packerland Conference teams after being bright spots on squads that did not have the seasons they originally envisioned. Gorham was able to crack 1,000 points in her final game as a Viking while Jackson scored nearly 300 points during his junior season.

Gibraltar's Tepe part of state champion hockey team

The second state champion in the area this school year came from an unlikely spot after the Green Bay United captured the 2025 18U Wisconsin Amateur Hockey Association State Championship over the weekend.

Gibraltar's Jameson Tepe is part of a GBU squad that won its first-ever state championship in Hudson, Wis. Entering the state tournament as the third-seed, the Gryphons knocked off top-seeded Dodgeville 4-1 in its opening game, ensuring that the defending state champions would not repeat. The Gryphons then toppled host Hudson 3-2 in overtime to secure the state's top prize.

Gibraltar's Kita keeps it local with St. Norbert NLI

Familiarity was a key decision in Gibraltar/Washington Island's Braden Kita's decision to play at St. Norbert College to continue his baseball career.

Kita has made appearances on the All-Packerland Conference team during his first three seasons with the Vikings, including as a first-team catcher last year. This is despite breaking his ankle in consecutive football seasons and virtually canceling his sophomore and junior basketball seasons before becoming healthy enough. He joins a Green Knights club that already boasts two Vikings alumni, Luke Steebs and Trevor Reinhardt. Couple that with proximity to home, Kita is excited to continue his baseball career in De Pere.

Vikings bounced by Eagles in tournament opener on 105.1 The GOAT

An extended run by Sheboygan Christian to end the first half caused the Gibraltar Vikings to take an early exit from the WIAA Division 5 Tournament, losing the game 65-38.

Two early three-pointers from Braden Kita helped the Vikings weather the early push made by the Eagles' Brock Zylstra and Josh Kautzer as they took a 12-8 lead about halfway through the first half. The tide turned from there as the Eagles switched up defenses and began hitting their shots, scoring 17 of the next 21 points to take a 25-16 lead into the locker room.

The Eagles did not relent defensively, and Zylestra took the game over, scoring 18 of his game-high 28 points after the break. The Vikings could only manage a few buckets early before Kayin Jackson began loosening things up with his dribble drives into the lane. The bulk of their seven shots made from the field came in the final minutes as the Eagles held onto a 30-plus point lead.

Complementing Zylstra's 28 points for the Eagles were Josh Kautzer's 13 and eight points from Cameron Ferraino. The Vikings received nine points from Jackson and eight points from Lindenberg and Jeffrey Mize. The Eagles will face Hilbert in the second round, while the Vikings enter the offseason after posting a record of 4-20 on the year.

Gibraltar boys open tournament run in Sheboygan on 105.1 The GOAT

It is a new season for the Gibraltar boys basketball team as they travel to Sheboygan Christian to open the WIAA Division 5 Tournament on Tuesday.

Led by Kayin Jackson (14.2 ppg) and Liam Lindenberg (10.5 ppg), the Vikings ended the season with a 4-19 mark, including 2-14 in the Packerland Conference. The team has lost nine of its last 11 games, both of which coming against non-conference D5 teams. Last year's 60-48 loss to Florence was the first time the Vikings lost an opening-round game in the tournament since a 75-58 loss to Random Lake during the 2017-2018 season.

The Eagles are led by Cameron Ferraino (14.2 ppg and 5.2 rpg) and Brock Zylstra (13.3 ppg and 6.7 rpg).
