Vikings boys fall at Hilbert

A scoring drought to start the game told the story of Gibraltar's 58-40 loss to Hilbert on Monday.

Jake Schar's free throw broke an eight-minute scoreless stretch that put the Vikings down 11 points early. A Carl Burgess three-point shot at 8:31 mark was the first made field goal to make it 13-6. That would be as close the Vikings would get all night as Hilbert kept it a double-figure for much of the night, including a 31-15 advantage at halftime.

The Vikings will play Wabeno-Laona for a chance at their first win on Saturday at 2:30 p.m.

Gibraltar boys hit road again to face Hilbert

The Gibraltar Vikings will look for their first win of the boys' basketball season when they travel to Hilbert on Monday.

The Vikings faced a tough Kohler team in their season opener, losing 95-65. Jake Schar accounted for 24 points, while Braden Sitte chipped in 13 points. No other player scored more than six points in the loss.

Hilbert plays in their first game of the season after going 1-24 during last year's campaign, including a 95-62 loss to Gibraltar last year.

The opening tip is set for 7:15 p.m.

Bombers take out Vikings boys

The Kohler Bombers made 10 three-point field goals as they beat the Gibraltar Vikings 95-65 on Tuesday.

The Bombers blitzed the Vikings from the word go, entering the second half with a 62-25. The Vikings would find their stroke in the second half as they outscored their hosts in the second half. Jake Schar enjoyed the extra spotlight as the players' best game after he scored over 24 points. Braden Sitte added 13 points.

Trey Keller led Kohler with 25 points, while Jalen Paul added 16.

Vikings open up new season versus Kohler after memorable past

Coming off of a trip to the Kohl Center last season, Gibraltar will look to continue that success as they open their season on the road against Kohler.

The underdog run of Gibraltar last season came with a 19-11 overall record and an 8-8 record in the Packerland. Sam Lindenberg was the star of the team, but some great games from role players like Jake Schar and Will Friedenfels made the team what they were. The Vikings will be without Will Friedenfels and Brady Kita for the beginning of the season, due to some injuries that they suffered during the football season.

Kohler has been a strong team for the past few seasons, and last season might have been one of their more down seasons. Finishing 12-13 overall and 8-11 in the Big East conference, the Blue Bombers lost in the second round of the WIAA playoffs to Sheboygan Lutheran 89-60. Kohler will lose their leading scorer Charlie Roeder, but still have Trey Keller on the team, who averaged 12.9 Points Per Game.

Tip is scheduled for 7:00 P.M.

Vikings girls fall short against Hilbert

The Gibraltar Vikings fought back but could not get over the hump in its 46-42 loss to Hilbert Friday night.

Mikala Gorham led Gibraltar with 17 points and Colleen Carlisle chipped in 13 points in the loss that was decided at the free throw line. The Vikings committed 24 fouls compared to just 17 for their hosts, who made 15 of their free throws compared to just five. The Wolves' Megan Woelfel scored 18 points in the victory while two others reached double figures.

Gibraltar shifts focus to Hilbert ahead of matchup

The Gibraltar Vikings, without their top scorer from last season, will head back home to play their first home game this season against the Hilbert Wolves.

Gibraltar was without sophomore Andie Schar in their first matchup of the season against Two Rivers. Schar was the leader in points last season for the Vikings, as she averaged 11.1 Points Per Game. Stepping up in Schar’s absence was Betsy Lecy and Mikala Gorham. Lecy scored eight of her own, and Gorham sprinkled in her seven points all from the free throw line, going 7-9. Gibraltar traveled to Hilbert last year and fell to the Wolves by a score of 58-18.

Hilbert fell to 0-1 in their season opener 67-18 to Lourdes Academy. The highest scoring returning player from last season for the Wolves is Aubree Diedrich, who put in an average of 5.4 Points Per Game. A lot of new faces and changes for the Hilbert Wolves could open up some chances for the Gibraltar Vikings to come in and take a win in front of their home fans.

The game is scheduled to tipoff at 7:30.

Repeated success could result in another Madison trip for Vikings

After a trip to Madison last season, the Gibraltar Vikings will look to retain that success under a new head coach.

Sam Lindenberg was the hero of the Vikings last season, winning Packerland Conference Player of the Year averaging 20 points. Alongside Lindenberg was a strong core of starters, from Will Friedenfels, Jake Schar, Victor and Angel Jauregui, and Trevor Ash. The Vikings lost 3-4 of their starters due to graduation, but have great bench pieces to fill it out.

Bela Salm, Braden Sitte, and Carl Burgess will all see their minutes grow in the backcourt. Longtime Vikings coach Travis Ward has taken over the Gibraltar Boys Basketball team after the departure of Head Coach Justin Burress.

Gibraltar will be without Will Friedenfels and Brady Kita for at least the start of the season, due to some injuries that were sustained towards the end of the fall Football season.

The Vikings will open their season on the road against the Kohler Blue Bombers. The Packerland season begins against the Kewaunee Storm on December 6th in a potential entertaining matchup in the opener.

Vikings travel for opening matchup against Two Rivers

The Gibraltar Vikings girls basketball team will tip off their season Tuesday night against Two Rivers in Two Rivers.

Gibraltar’s season last year was not what was imagined, but a new season means a new opportunity for the Vikings to forget about it and start off on the right foot. Gibraltar was 1-24 last season and 1-16 in conference with their one win coming in a matchup against the Sturgeon Bay Clippers. But, Gibraltar was a team that did not experience much change, and the depth from last season could carry over to this season and prove critical and land the Vikings with some more wins than last season, hopefully starting in Two Rivers.

The Raiders of Two Rivers were an average .500 team last season, with their final record coming to a 12-14 end. The team had two 15 point scorers last season, with only one of them returning in Allyson Kakes. Looking to improve from last season just like Gibraltar is, it will be a good regular season test to gauge the two teams talent going into the season.

The tipoff is scheduled for 7:00 P.M.

Gibraltar Girls Basketball prepares for season ahead

The Gibraltar Vikings will look to turn the tides on their girls basketball success, as they get ready for the upcoming season.

The Vikings had a 1-24 season last year, and went 1-15 in conference play beating Sturgeon Bay. Gibraltar, however, have some players that could change that this season, as Andi Schar and Mikala Gorham are two names to watch this season that could win some games for Gibraltar. Schar was named to the Packerland All-Conference Second Team last year, and was a pivotal part of the team's success.

Gibraltar has good depth throughout the whole team however, which will play into their favor throughout the season and could win them some games with that alone.

The Vikings open up their season with a matchup against Two Rivers on the road, and take on Kewaunee in their Packerland opener on December 2nd.
