Vikings Drop Two on Saturday to Close Out Weekend Trip

It was a tough weekend for Gibraltar on Saturday in Mauston. The Vikings dropped both of their Saturday games, falling to Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah 20-2 in the morning before dropping the afternoon game to Cameron by the same score.

In game one against the Resorters, Gibraltar got on the board first. Gabi Solomon tripled and Isla Fagundes grounded out to plate a pair of runs in the top of the first, giving the Vikings an early 2-0 lead. Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah answered in a big way though, putting up 8 runs in the bottom of the first. Mia Glocke took the loss in the circle, going 3 innings and striking out six.

Game two against Cameron was more of the same. The Comets erupted for 12 runs in the bottom of the first to flip another 2-0 Gibraltar lead and never looked back. Brylee Viltz led Cameron going 4-for-4 with 5 RBIs. Gabi Solomon started in the circle for the Vikings with Emilie Glocke coming on in relief.

Mia Glocke led Gibraltar offensively, going 3-for-3 with a walk and scoring 2 runs. Gibraltar wraps up the weekend trip 0-3 and heads back home.

Vikings out-slugged in season opener

Opening at the Woodside Athletic Complex in Mauston to start their season, Gibraltar took on a tough matchup in Hurley Friday afternoon. The Northstars wasted no time getting on the board and scored at least one run in all five innings played on their way to a 20-0 slaughter-rule win.

Gibraltar struggled to get their bats rolling as they tallied just 3 hits in the opener. Senior Olivia Digiorgio was on the mound for Hurley, striking out nine in 5 innings of work.

For the Vikings, Emilie Glocke got the start and ultimately took the loss in the opening game going 2 1/3 innings surrendering 7 runs (6 earned) on 5 hits and 4 walks. Gabi Solomon came on in relief for the final 2 2/3 innings. The pair struck out 7 combined.

While the Vikings struggled to find the zone, Hurley took advantage when they did, collecting 16 hits on the afternoon. Bella Derosso led the Northstars going 3-for-4 with 4 RBIs and 2 runs scored.

Gibraltar returns to the fields Saturday facing Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah at 9:30am and Cameron at 1 pm to round out their weekend three game set.

Gibraltar softball's Glocke leans on personal experience with Miss Door County Teen community initiative

Before Miss Door County Teen Mia Glocke gained the confidence needed to walk the Southern Door Auditorium stage last month, she had to find it in other facets of her high school life.

Glocke is heavily involved at Gibraltar High School, whether it’s acting in a one-act play, playing the trumpet in the band, or toeing the rubber in the circle for the softball team. Maintaining a healthy, positive mindset has been key to Glocke being successful in those arenas.

Her community service initiative that she will promote throughout the year is called “Mind Over Pressure: Prioritizing Mental Health in Schools – on Any Team, Stage, or Court.” She wants to help young girls know that it is OK to talk about the pressure they feel they are facing.

Glocke will join Miss Door County Kaylee Griep, Miss Cherryland Paige Nikodem, and Miss Cherryland Teen Elise Jackson as they travel across the county over the next year promoting their community service initiatives, which will be highlighted individually this week. The quartet also will compete in the Miss Wisconsin and Miss Wisconsin’s Teen competitions, scheduled for June 16-20, 2026, in New Berlin.

Vikings boys bit by Panthers in season finale on 105.1 The GOAT

The Gibraltar boys basketball team struggled to stop Reedsville from scoring Saturday night as it saw its season come to a close with a 71-29 loss.

The Panthers jumped out to a 10-0 lead thanks in part to a pair of 3-pointers from Jack Schwann and the lane-slashing style of Ben Prochnow. The Panthers' defense also gave the Vikings' offense fits, as they made just three shots from the field in the opening period and committed several turnovers. Prochnow scored 18 of his game-high 27 points in the first half to help the Panthers take a 35-14 lead into the locker room.

The second half got off to a slow start as well for the Vikings as the Panthers scored nine of the first 10 points to quickly push their advantage to more than 30. Marco Jauregui and Aaron Brey were able to hit some 3-pointers, but they were canceled out by Arden Strenn's pair of triples as he scored 10 of his 14 points after the break.

Both teams emptied the bench late, allowing fans from both sides to salute their seniors.

Jackson scored nine points to lead the Vikings, with Jauregui adding five points and Brey contributing four. In addition to the 41 combined points from Prochnow and Strenn, Braylon DeCleene and Schwann each added eight points.

While the Panthers advance to next Thursday's sectional final against Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah, the Vikings will say goodbye to seniors Marco and Fernando Jauregui, Aaron Brey, Kayin Jackson, Owen Dannhausen, Mauricio Fernandez and Leo Canudas Casto.

Vikings boys slide past Paladins, face Panthers Saturday on 105.1 The GOAT

The Gibraltar Vikings boys basketball team will live to see another day after holding off a Providence Academy comeback to win 52-47 in Howard on Friday night.

It was a two-man show for both teams in the early going, with Isaiah Faulkner and Grayson Herlache pacing the Paladins and Marco Jauregui and Kayin Jackson leading the Vikings. They traded one-point leads until the Vikings went on a 15-0 run, fueled by 14 first-half points from Jackson. Head coach Travis Ward had to dip deeper into his bench due to early foul trouble for Finn Bremer and Jackson, which put Fernando Jauregui and Charlie Reinhardt into the spotlight. The Paladins were able to reel in the Vikings late thanks to 3-pointers from Faulkner and James Hoiska, but the Vikings still took a 28-17 lead into the locker room.

The Paladins came out fast to start the half with Faulkner leading the charge. He scored 19 of his game-high 27 points in the second half, helping the Paladins quickly tie the game. In the middle of the period, Jackson and Jauregui were able to get some shots to fall, pushing the Vikings’ lead out to six points.

The Paladins would get within three points late but would get no closer as time expired. Herlache complemented Faulkner's performance with 11 points, while Hoiska added five. The Vikings were led by Jauregui's 23 points, while Jackson contributed 17 and Aaron Brey chipped in seven.

The Vikings will move on to face top-seeded Reedsville in the regional semifinal. The Panthers have held their tournament opponents in the teens in three of the four periods they have played, beating Gillett 90-35 and Lourdes Academy 66-39. They are led by Ben Prochnow's 21 ppg and 11.3 apg and Arden Strenn's 17.3 ppg and 7.0 rpg. The Panthers enter the matchup on a five-game winning streak, including a win over then-No. 8-ranked St. Mary Catholic.

Tim Kowols and Jacob Nate will have the call from Reedsville on 105.1 The GOAT, beginning at 6:45 p.m. with the pregame show, followed by the tipoff at 7 p.m.

Gibraltar boys continue their tournament run at Providence Academy on 105.1 The GOAT

The Gibraltar Vikings kept their season alive on Tuesday and will have another opportunity to do so again on Friday when they travel to Howard to battle Providence Academy.

The Vikings broke their five-game regular-season skid and three-game tournament losing streak in one swoop Tuesday night as they edged Suring 56-54 on the road in their WIAA Tournament opener. The Vikings and Eagles would exchange leads late, but a big bucket from Owen Dannhausen and timely free throws from Aaron Brey and Finn Bremer helped set up the dramatic ending that fell in favor of the Vikings for their first tournament win since they last played in Suring against Three Lakes in the 2023 sectional semifinal. Kayin Jackson led all scorers with 23 points for the Vikings while Brey added 17 points, Marco Jauregui eight points, and Bremer six points.

The Paladins advanced in their first WIAA Tournament with a 70-43 win over Lena to snap a four-game losing streak. Grayson Herlache led the way for the Paladins with 26 points while Isaiah Faulkner scored 15 points. Players from the Paladins previously competed alongside students at NEW Lutheran before separating this year.

Gibraltar boys sneak past Suring on 105.1 The GOAT

The Gibraltar Vikings broke their five-game regular-season skid and three-game tournament losing streak in one swoop Tuesday night as they edged Suring 56-54 on the road in their WIAA Tournament opener.

It was all Kayin Jackson early as he scored 15 points in the opening frame with a dunk, several layups, and a three-pointer to his credit. The Eagles' combination of Parker Haak and Taylor Booth-Stroffegan was able to keep the Vikings at bay with eight points apiece, along with five points to take a slim 25-23 lead at the break.

The Vikings' offense got off to a slow start in the second half while Haak, Booth-Stroffegan, and Karl Hischke helped the Eagles build a 39-30 advantage a few minutes into the period. Aaron Brey helped keep the Vikings within striking distance, allowing Jackson and Marco Jauregui to heat up. Thanks in part to six three-pointers by the trio, the Vikings turned the nine-point deficit into a 48-45 advantage with just a few minutes to go.

The Vikings and Eagles would exchange leads late, but a big bucket from Owen Dannhausen and timely free throws from Brey and Finn Bremer helped set up the dramatic ending that fell in favor of the Vikings for their first tournament win since they last played in Suring against Three Lakes in the 2023 sectional semifinal.

Jackson led all scorers with 23 points for the Vikings while Brey added 17 points, Jauregui eight points, and Bremer six points. The Eagles had three players score in double figures, with Haak leading the way with 19 points, while Booth-Stroffegen registered 16 points and Hischke contributed 11 points.

The Vikings move on to face Providence Academy Green Bay in Howard Friday night in the regional semifinal. Tim Kowols will have the call on 105.1 The GOAT beginning at 6:45 p.m. followed by the opening tip at 7 p.m.

Gibraltar boys heads to Suring for tournament opener on 105.1 The GOAT

The Vikings last won on February 12th in a nailbiter against Southern Door. In their last game, the Vikings trailed by just four points early in the second half before being outscored by 20 points the rest of the way in a 58-34 loss to Wabeno-Laona in Fish Creek on Saturday. Marco Jauregui paved the way for the Vikings with 20 points while Kayin Jackson added six points and Aaron Brey chipped in four points. The Vikings hope to have an injured Wyatt Bultman back for the tournament, who is third on the team in scoring (9.4 ppg) and leads the team in rebounding (3.9 rpg).
