Vikings finally finish off Wolverines on 105.1 The GOAT

It took another lightning delay to do it, but the Gibraltar Vikings secured their first win in close to two years on Saturday afternoon with a 44-22 victory over Elcho/White Lake.

The game restarted after the game on Friday was postponed after transportation issues for the Wolverines delayed the start and thunderstorms pushed the game to Saturday with just under 7:30 remaining in the second quarter. The Vikings scored the points of the restarted second quarter after turning away the Wolverines on their processions. Braden Sitte turned a simple wide receiver screen catch into a 60 yard touchdown pass from Sam Lindenberg to extend the Vikings lead.

The Wolverines would get back on the board after a long drive ended with Keegan Klinger scoring from 12 yards out. The Vikings would answer the call in the fourth quarter when Lindenberg found Bela Salm for a red zone touchdown following his interception.

The win gave the Vikings their first win since their 2019 playoff win at Suring and their first home victory since beating Sevastopol a few weeks prior. They will look to make it two in a row when they travel to Three Lakes on Thursday. Tim Kowols will have the call on 105.1 The GOAT and NEWRadioSportsNetwork.com beginning at 6:30 p.m. with the pregame show followed by kickoff at 7 p.m.

He would later add a red zone rushing score and a touchdown pass to Will Friedenfels. The Wolverines got on the scoreboard with a 60-yard touchdown run to start off the second quarter, but Bela Salm answered with an 80-yard touchdown return.

The game will restart at 4 p.m. in Fish Creek at the point of the postponement. The radio broadcast will continue at that point as well with the pre-restart show at 3:50 p.m. followed by the resumption of play on 105.1 The GOAT and streaming worldwide at NEWRadioSportsNetwork.com.

Gibraltar football hosts Elcho/White Lake in season opener on 105.1 The GOAT

It has been almost two years since the Vikings have played in Fish Creek, but Gibraltar returns home Friday night to play against Elcho/White Lake.

A win over Sevastopol on October 11th, 2019 was the last victory in Fish Creek for the Vikings, which went on the road the final weeks of that season and spent the 2021 alternative fall season playing in Institute. The Vikings are coming off of a winless alternative fall season where many of their young players received opportunities due to numbers and injuries. Pair that with some players this year that have never played football before, Gibraltar head coach Mike Peck said in this week's podcast preview that reviewing the basics should help everyone going into their first game of the season.

Elcho/White Lake played their season in the fall last year, but did not have too many opportunities to get on the field.  The team had seven games canceled, two games forfeited, and they did not fare well in their matchups against Three Lakes (56-6 loss) and Wabeno/Laona (52-24 loss).

You will be able to catch the game on 105.1 The GOAT and streaming worldwide at NEWRadioSportsNetwork.com and 1051TheGoat.com. Tim Kowols will have the pregame show at 6:30 p.m. followed by kickoff at 7 p.m.
