Vikings' season ends in home rout against Titans on 105.1 The GOAT

A late 31-yard touchdown pass from Giovanni Mercier to Jake Larson proved to be the lone points of the game for Gibraltar and the final ones of the season as they lost to Lena/St. Thomas Aquinas 43-6 on Friday night.

The Titans jumped on the Vikings early with a long run from Max Peterson, setting up the first Jake Farley touchdown and a blocked punt setting up the second. Peterson would find the endzone in the second quarter to make it 30-0 at the break. The Vikings, meanwhile, were able to make good progress against the tough Titans' defense only to have mistakes foil their drives.

In the second half, Peterson pushed the game into a running clock with a 60-yard touchdown run before Farley added a 20+ yard touchdown run to make it 43-0. The Vikings' offense created some plays on the fly to end the season on a high note, with Mercier finding Larson all by himself for the final points of the game.

Neal led the way with 80 yards rushing on 18 rushes, while Mercier added another 67 on the ground.

While the Titans will wait for Saturday's bracket announcement, the Vikings concluded their season with a 2-6 record, highlighted by wins against Florence and Gillett. The game also served as senior night for the program, which said goodbye to Mercier, Bairen Lhost, Owen Dannhausen, Will Anschutz, Neal, and Leo Castro.

Vikings play home finale against state-ranked Titans on 105.1 The GOAT

Gibraltar's tallest task of the season comes Friday night when they face second-ranked Lena/St. Thomas Aquinas under the lights of Fish Creek.

Without its top rushers in Sean Neal and Parker Gallant, the Vikings' offense struggled to complete drives in its 38-12 loss to Suring last Friday. The duo combined for more than 160 of the 244 yards gained by the Vikings after being used sparingly after halftime due to injuries. Neal accounted for both touchdowns in the loss.

The Titans have been a force on both sides of the ball, putting up more than 40 points in five of their seven games and posting five shutouts. Their 44-20 win over Sevastopol represents the only time they gave up more than scoring drive in a game. Max Peterson leads the team with 866 rushing yards and 18 touchdowns.

Tim Kowols will have the call on 105.1 The GOAT and NEWRadioSportsNetwork.com beginning at 6:45 p.m. followed by the kickoff at 7 p.m.

Vikings lose steam against Eagles on 105.1 The GOAT

After a promising first quarter, Gibraltar lost its offensive momentum as injuries piled up en route to a 38-12 loss on the road to Suring on Friday night.

The Vikings struck first after recovering an onside kick to start the game, thanks to Sean Neal finding a seam and galloping in from 20+ yards out to make it 6-0. The Eagles responded on the very next drive when Grant Thomson scored the first of his two touchdowns and punched in the two-point conversion. The Vikings responded a few plays later when Neal turned the corner and found daylight from nearly 60 yards to help the Vikings retake the lead. They would never have the lead again as Taylor Booth-Stoffregen and Kroix Kempka scored 85-yard and 29-yard rushing touchdowns, respectively, to put the Eagles up 24-12.

The Vikings' sideline became a MASH unit in the second half as Neal and Parker Gallant made several visits to the trainer before eventually being ruled out for the majority of the third and fourth quarters. While the offense struggled to find its footing, the defense also had to adjust with other players missing on that side of the ball. The Eagles never skipped a beat, thanks to Thomson and Kempka each finding the endzone for a second time to put the game away.

The Vikings will play their final home game of the season next Friday night when they welcome state-ranked Lena/St. Thomas Aquinas to Fish Creek for Senior Night. Tim Kowols will have the call on 105.1 The GOAT and online at 1051TheGOAT.com and NEWRadioSportsNetwork.com.

In other Eight-Player Football, Algoma forced an early exit from its game against Gillett, winning the game 74-12 with just under nine minutes remaining in the fourth quarter.
