Gibraltar put up a strong fight against Packerland Conference leader Oconto on Tuesday night, but the Blue Devils pulled away late in each set to earn a three-set sweep.
After falling behind early in the opening set, Gibraltar rallied from an 11-2 deficit to close the gap within three at 15-12 before Oconto finished off the set 25-16.
The Vikings carried that momentum into set two, jumping out to a quick 5-0 lead before the Blue Devils answered back to tie things at 9-9 and eventually take the set 25-17.
In the final frame, Gibraltar continued to pressure Oconto, staying within striking distance until the final points before dropping a close 25-22 decision.
Oconto senior setter Jaelin Kumhala recorded her 1,000th career assist in the match.
The Blue Devils remain atop the conference at 24-7 overall and 7-0 in the Packerland, while Gibraltar falls to 5-22 overall and 0-7. The Vikings will close out the regular season Thursday at home against N.E.W. Lutheran at 7 p.m.
