Vikings girls struggle on the road vs. Eagles

Mikala Gorham was the only Vikings player who could solve the Eagle's defense on Monday night as Gibraltar fell to Suring on the road 68-31.

 

Gorham registered all 12 points for the Vikings in the first half, half of which came on a pair of threes. The Eagles meanwhile exploded for 40 points, with Paige Pommerich and Bunny Cramer each reaching double figures. The Vikings would get more contributions as Gorham went on to have a 22-point evening. Megan Schar knocked down a three-pointer while Celeste Jauregui, Bridget Tepe, and Josie Martin all scored two points. 

 

Cramer paced all scorers with 33 points for the Eagles, while her teammates Pommerich and Christensen also reached double figures.

Vikings girls outmatch Washington Island in season opener

The Gibraltar Vikings girls basketball got their season off on the right foot Friday night, beating Washington Island 44-4.

 

The Vikings cruised to a 32-0 lead at the break behind strong defense and 11 points from Mikala Gorham. She would go on to score a game-high 15 points. The Jarosh sister of Anna and Abby would combine to score another 15 points while Megan Gallant chipped in another six points in the victory. The Bucks' Rita Vatentincic and Emily Nickchen each scored two points in the loss.

Gibraltar boasts several All-Conference selections

With its soccer team wrapping up its season last week, several Gibraltar athletes will enter the winter sports season with extra honors attached to their names.

 

PACKERLAND SOCCER

First Team honorees included senior forward Trey Perlman, senior midfielders Gabe Peterson (unanimous), and Cristino Valdivia. Second Team honorees were junior forward Mauricio Fernandez, junior defenders Marco Jauregui and Sean Neal, and junior goalkeeper Aaron Tomaszewski. Honorable Mention went to junior midfielder Brandon Mayorga.

United 2024 Season Comes to an End

#6 Gibraltar/Sevastopol United lost 4-0 to Packerland Conference rivals the #2 seed Sturgeon Bay Clippers in a Sectional semifinal game on Thursday, October 31. The loss brings an end to the 2024 United campaign. 

 

The 2024 season was one with tremendous growth for the United program, with significant highlights: 

  • United varsity recorded a final tally of 11-4 for the regular season
  • 10-2 and second place in the Packerland Conference
  • A 3-3 record in tournament matches for the year 
  • First WIAA Boys Soccer Division 4 Regional Championship since 2010
  • A thrilling overtime and shootout win against #3 Amherst in the Regional final
  • Eight players were named to the Packerland Conference 2024 All-Conference Team
