A 14-0 run shortly after the game's first bucket left Gibraltar chasing points the rest of the game in a 66-56 loss to Northeast Wisconsin Christian Homeschoolers Athletics Association (NEWCHAA) on Tuesday night in Fish Creek.
Marco Jauregui hit the game's first bucket in the game's opening minute, but the Vikings went nearly seven minutes in between baskets. A big reason why the Eagles took control of the game early was Isaiah Henselin, who scored 17 of his game-high 25 points in the first half with Carter Frisque coming on late to score 10 points in the frame. A Charlie Reinhardt three-point provided some offensive spark, but the Vikings hit nearly as many free throws in the first half as field goals as they fell behind 31-17 at the break.
The Vikings' offense showed life in the second half thanks to Kayin Jackson's ability to drive to the hoop and timely threes from Jauregui and Aaron Brey. The team's defense was able to force the Eagles to rely on players other than Henselin, though that allowed for Frisque and Kaleb Follen to show their ability to get to the hoop. The Vikings would whittle the lead down to as little as six points in the closing minutes, but the Eagles kept the Vikings at bay with key free throws late to hold onto the game.
In addition to Henselin's 25 points, Frisque put up 22 points and Follen added 13 points in the Eagles win. Jackson overcame a slow start to lead the Vikings with 20 points while Jauregui added 14 points and Brey chipped in 10 points in the loss.
The Vikings will have some time off before their next varsity contest when they play Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah on December 2nd before their Packerland opener against NEW Lutheran on December 4th.
