Gibraltar's defense struggled to get off the field against a staunch Lena/St. Thomas Aquinas Academy running game as they fell in their homecoming game 38-18 Friday night.

The game started out like it was going to be a track meet as the two teams traded scores through the first 18 minutes. The Titans' Calvin Peters why he is the conference's most potent rusher with two long touchdown runs on either side of a 25-yard rushing score from Tyler Shallow. At the same time, the Vikings' Braden Sitte showed why he is the conference's premier wide receiver with touchdown grabs from 3, 65, and 1 yards out to make it 22-18 at the end of the half after the offenses started to sputter out due to interceptions and missed opportunities. The game took on a different tone late in the first quarter when the Vikings' Brady Kita suffered a lower leg injury that forced him to be carted off and seek additional medical attention. Sophomore Giovanni Mercier finished off the third scoring drive with a touchdown pass to Sitte.

Two long touchdown drives of over eight minutes apiece gave the Titans the win and likely the Peninsula Conference crown that eluded them last year. Short-scoring runs from Logan Graef and Shallow salted the game away for the Titans.

Gibraltar/Sevastopol's Aaron Tomaszewski kept Peshtigo at bay as the United won the matchup on the road 2-0.

The scoring opened in the 25th minute when Damien Lardinois knocked in a ball off a rebound from the Bulldog keeper. Brandon Mayorga added on in the 53rd minute when he was able to find the bottom corner to make it 2-0. Tomaszewski posted the clean sheet on a relatively calm night as the United goalkeeper.

The next match for the United is a home contest against Kewaunee on Monday at 6:30 p.m. for Parents Night. 

The Gibraltar cross country team took on a familiar course at Cherry Hills Golf Course on Thursday for the Pioneer Invite.

Helen McCormack led the Vikings in the girls race with a 5K time of 24:17, averaging less than five minutes a kilometer along the way.

Logan Mittermann paced the boys with a time of 20:47 on the hilly golf course, taking 22nd overall.

Neither the boys or girls squad had enough runners to be scored as a team.

A homecoming audience will be treated to what very well could decide the Peninsula Conference championship on Friday night when Gibraltar hosts Lena/St. Thomas Aquinas Academy in Fish Creek.

The Vikings outscored Gillett 41-0 in the middle frames of a 48-19 win last week. Braden Sitte followed up his record-setting performance at Wausaukee with seven catches, three touchdowns, and 211 yards receiving while also adding a score on the ground. Brady Kita threw for five touchdowns on the night as he also found Will Lecy for a pair of scores. 

The Titans did not even need to throw the ball in their 48-20 victory over Algoma last week. Quarterback Calvin Peters rushed for 254 yards and three touchdowns on just 10 carries as the Titans accumulated 462 yards on the night. Their defense is equally staunch, allowing just 44 points across five games.

The two teams split their matchups last season with the each team winning on the road. The Titans got the last laugh as they beat the injury-riddled Vikings 30-21 in Fish Creek in the opening round of the WIAA Playoffs.

The Gibraltar/Sevastopol soccer team hops on a bus Thursday afternoon to battle the Peshtigo Bulldogs in a Packerland Conference tilt.

The United’s Damian Lardinois, Zaul Valdivia, and Christian Ruiz all scored in their 3-1 win over Algoma earlier in the week. Tino Valdivia registered two assists and Trey Perlman collected another in the victory.

The Bulldogs tied NEW Lutheran earlier in the week, extending their winless streak to three (0-2-1).

Kickoff is set for 4:30 p.m.

Despite Chloe Alexander of Gibraltar registering her 1000th career assist Tuesday night, the Gibraltar Vikings fell to the Algoma Wolves three games to one in Packerland Conference play.  

The Vikings battled and won the second set but ended up losing to Algoma with scores of 25-19, 17-25, 25-16, and 25-22. 

The big highlight of the night was Chloe Alexander of Gibraltar registering her 1000th career assist for the Vikings.

The Gibraltar Vikings will play one of their rare home matches on Tuesday when Algoma comes calling.

The Vikings split their two Hilbert Invitational matches, getting swept by Wittenberg-Birnamwood 2-0 beating the host school by the same margin.

The Wolves won four of its five matches at its home invitational over the weekend beating Shiocton 2-1, Crivitz 2-0, Two Rivers 2-0, and Denmark 2-1 before losing to Bonduel 2-0. 

Match time is set for 7 p.m.

Gibraltar/Sevastopol United Boys Soccer opened Gibrlatar's homecoming week with a Packerland conference home victory 3-1 over the Algoma Wolves Monday night in Fish Creek. 

A nearly scoreless first half was broken in 39’ by United’s Damian Lardinois with an assist by Tino Valdivia. Second-half goals for United came at 50’ by Zaul Valdivia off an assist by Trey Perlman, and 74’ header by Christian Ruiz off a cross by Tino Valdivia.

The Algoma goal came at 51’ off a Cody Kirchman PK after a United handball in the box.
 

Next up for United is a trip to Peshtigo on Thursday afternoon, September 28 at 4:30 pm.

The Gibraltar/Sevastopol soccer team opens the week with a homecoming matchup against Algoma Monday night under the lights of Fish Creek.

The United registered a tally in the second half but no more than that as they fell to NEW Lutheran 2-1 in Fish Creek last Thursday night. Monty Gungor and Caden Landes registered the goals for the Blazers to send them past the United. A later corner kick set up the Landes goal in the final minutes of the match after the United dominated possession for much of the second half. United's Tino Valdivia evened the score in the 63' for the team's lone tally.

The Wolves played Kewaunee to a scoreless draw in their match, extending their winless streak before they played a scheduled match against Howard Grove on Friday.

Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m.

For the second straight week, the Gibraltar offense forced a running clock in the second half as they beat Gillett 48-19  on the road Friday night.

The Vikings and Tigers shared similar drives in the opening quarter with each team being turned away on their opening drive only to score on their next two possessions. Jesse DeBauch found Brandon DeBauch down the seam for the Tigers' first score only to have Will Lecy find the endzone himself on a 15-yard pass from Brady Kita. The Tigers' Nathan Rowell gave his team their last lead of the evening on a 10-yard carry only to have Lecy steal back the momentum for good early in the second quarter.

The Vikings' would then turn away the Tigers on four consecutive drives, which included a back-breaking, 75-yard scoop and score by Braden Sitte on a DeBauch fumble to make it 21-13. Kita would engineer two more touchdown drives that were capped off by Sitte finding the endzone. The last touchdown was especially bizarre when Sitte lined up for a 44-yard field goal, which would have broken his own Eight-man football record for longest kick. A fumbled snap by Kita turned into a pitch play to Sitte, who took the ball from 27 yards out to take the Vikings into halftime with a 34-13.

Kita would find Sitte twice for touchdowns in the second half on either side of a second turnover forced by Bairen Lhost. The Tigers would salt the game away in the latter stages of the game, going on an over 10-minute drive that ended with DeBauch finding Jedrick Matczak on a corner route to essentially end the game.

Gibraltar will now enter its homecoming week with a 5-0 record with state-ranked Lena/St. Thomas Aquinas is on deck. The Gibraltar Vikings football team hops on a bus again to kick off their weekend on Friday when they play Gillett in Peninsula Conference action.

The Vikings are coming off another record-setting performance from Braden Sitte in its 53-22 victory over Wausaukee last week. According to WisSports.net, Sitte's 399 receiving yards against the Rangers is a Wisconsin 8-Player football record, which he set just one week after setting a different state record with his 42-yard field goal against Algoma. He also hauled in 12 passes, six of which went for touchdowns, in the rout of the Rangers.

Before last week's game, it was the Tigers with the most potent passing game in the Peninsula Conference. Quarterback Jesse DeBauch is second in the Peninsula with 934 passing yards. The Vikings' performance against Wausaukee also sank DeBauch's main target Brandon DeBauch to second place in receiving yards with 476 yards. It is an aspect of the Tigers' game that Vikings head coach Mike Peck said they will have to keep an eye out on during his weekly interview with the NEW Radio Sports Network. The Tigers lost last week's game 54-37 to Algoma with Jesse DeBauch scoring five total touchdowns, including three through the air.

The Gibraltar/Sevastopol soccer team looks to find the win column Thursday night when they play NEW Lutheran in Fish Creek.

After going 1-1-1 in the Wrightstown Tournament featuring a dominating 6-0 victory over New Holstein, the United fell to Luxemburg-Casco 2-0 in Luxemburg earlier in the week. The United's goalkeeping kept them in the contest with eight saves on the night.

The Blazers have won three of their last five matches, including a 2-1 win against Ashwaubenon on Monday that snapped a two-game losing skid. They had opened the season losing five of their first seven matches.

Match time is set for 7 p.m.

The Gibraltar/Sevastopol soccer team left without a win but did sneak out of the Wrightstown tournament with a tie.

The United lost to Marinette 1-0 to start their day but rebounded to tie Altoona/Fall Creek in its second match. 

They are scheduled to face NEW Lutheran/Providence Academy on Thursday.

The Gibraltar Vikings were able to avoid the drama on the gridiron as they scored touchdowns on six straight possessions to rout the host Wausaukee Rangers 53-22 Friday night.

Things got off to an ominous start for the Vikings as the Luke Smith-led Rangers marched right down the field against Gibraltar's defense and scored a rushing touchdown from 10 yards out to make it 8-0 and at approximately seven minutes of the clock. Brady Kita would begin his impressive night almost immediately, finding Braden Sitte on a deep ball from 65 yards out to make it 8-7. Kita would fire four more touchdown passes before the half would run out, including a simple six-yard out pattern to Sitte and from 33 yards out to a streaking Marshall Maltby.

With the Vikings up 33-8, Kita would go deep once more to open the third quarter, finding Sitte from over 50 yards out to make it 39-8. After forcing the Rangers to turn the ball over on downs, the Vikings would give it right back as Kita was intercepted inside the 10-yard line to give the Rangers some life. Kita would grab it right back with a pick-six interception to stretch the lead to 45-8. The Rangers would score on their final two possessions with Smith throwing one touchdown pass and rushing for another. Kita would throw one more touchdown pass for good measure in between those two scores to make it 53-16, ensuring the running clock would run for the rest of the game.

The Gibraltar Vikings take their 3-0 mark to Wausaukee for a Friday night matchup.

The Vikings have had a drama-filled start to their season with two of their three wins coming on their final possession. A 43-yard field goal Braden Sitte capped off one of the most thrilling victories in Gibraltar's reign in eight-player football last Friday night as they beat Algoma 53-50. The heroics were set up when the Vikings recovered an onside kick in Wolves territory to give them a short field to work with before Sitte pulled a Houdini act on a flea flicker gone wrong that turned into a 50-yard scramble for the endzone to set up a game-tying two-point conversion run by Kita.

The Rangers have struggled to finish games as they have scuffled to a 0-3 start. They lost a big lead to Algoma in week two and saw their two-touchdown rally come up short last week when they lost to Oneida Nation/Providence Academy/NEW Lutheran 27-13.

Gibraltar/Sevastopol and Sturgeon Bay will renew their rivalry on Thursday night in Fish Creek.

The United dropped their last game 4-1 to Howards Grove on the road to even their record on the season. 

The Clippers fought hard against the Green Bay Preble Hornets in its last match at City Stadium but fell 1-0 in the end. Langfeldt played a great match and was called on to make over 10 saves as the state-ranked Hornets provided pressure from the opening touch.

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. in Fish Creek.

The Gibraltar cross country team went from racing at night to the day time on Tuesday to compete in the Crusader Invitational in Sheboygan.

Logan Mittermann led the way for the boys with a time of 22:18 as a one-man team.

Helen McCormack paced the girls squad with a time of 24:47 on the 5K course.

Gibraltar/Sevastopol will get their time on the pitch in early on Saturday with an 11 a.m. first kick against Appleton West.

The United have had unreported games against Peshtigo and Kewaunee their last two games out, but they are 3-2 in their other matches so far this season. That includes two straight wins 

Appleton West is 1-3-2 with a 6-2 victory over Seymour their lone bright spot on the season. They have been shut out in three of their six contest so far.

The Vikings would finally get on the scoreboard midway through the second quarter with Will Lecy scoring a touchdown to cut the lead in half. The two teams would trade scores the rest of the quarter with Vandervest scoring his third touchdown of the game and Issac Yunk ending the frame with another short score on either side of a Brady Kita rushing touchdown to make it 28-14 at the break.

The Vikings would close the gap in the third quarter, occupying the clock for more than 10 minutes while Lecy scored touchdowns through the air and on the ground to tie the game at 28-28.

The two teams would once again trade blows in the fourth quarter with Gibraltar answering every Algoma touchdown with one of their own. Touchdowns by the Wolves' Vandervest and Lischka and the Vikings' Lecy set the stage for a thrilling finish. Kita galloped into the endzone with less than a minute remaining in the game to tie the game at 34-34 apiece. The Wolves would try their hardest to end the game in regulation with Vandervest finding Lischka on 40-plus yard pass route and ensuing two-point conversion to make it 50-42 with less than 30 seconds remaining. The Vikings would recover an onside kick in Wolves territory to give them a short field to work with before Sitte pulled a Houdini act on a flea flicker gone wrong that turned into a 50 yard scramble for the endzone to set up a game-tying two-point conversion run by Kita.

Antigo, Seymour, Amherst, Cedar Grove-Belgium, Coleman, Freedom, Green Bay Preble, Hilbert, Marathon, Mishicot, Nicolet, Northland Pines, Omro, Lourdes Academy, Peshtigo, Port Washington, St. Mary Catholic, Sheboygan Falls, Laona-Wabeno, Waupaca, Winnebago Lutheran Academy, Winneconne, Weyauwega Fremont, Reedsville, Kewaskum, Marinette, and Providence Academy (Green Bay) will also be competing in the 5K race that will take place under the lights at 7:50 p.m. for the girls and 8:30 p.m. for the boys.

The Gibraltar Vikings were stymied by NEW Lutheran Thursday night as they were swept 3-0 (25-17, 25-19, 25-18).

The Vikings struggled to contain Abby Kirchner, who 26 assists to go along with four service aces.

Gibraltar and Algoma avoided scares last week to remain perfect in eight-player football, but that will not be case after the two meet Friday night in Fish Creek.

The Vikings were able to overcome penalties and a feisty Suring ball club that turned the game into a see-saw affair to win the game 35-32. Brady Kita threw for four touchdowns and rushed for another to accumulate over 240 total yards on the night. Braden Sitte was on the receiving end of those scores as he totaled 142 yards on eight catches.

The Wolves found themselves down 36-8 to the Wausaukee Rangers before flipping the script to win 48-44. Grant Vandervest had six total touchdowns, rushing for 215 yards and two scores while throwing for another four and 219 yards. Parker Lischka helped the cause with six grabs for 195 yards and two touchdowns.

Both Gibraltar's Mike Peck and Algoma's Wade Vandervest discussed controlling each other's star quarterback as a major key to victory in Friday's match-up, which will kickoff at 7 p.m. Tim Kowols will have the call on 105.1 The GOAT and NEWRadioSportsNetwork.com beginning at 6:45 p.m. with the pregame show.

Gibraltar will host one of its four home matches on the year on Thursday when NEW Lutheran visits Fish Creek.

Led by Woody Heidler, the Vikings earned their first victory of the season with a 2-0 sweep of Goodman/Pembine at Crivitz. The team has battled despite their 1-4 record, going to the maximum three sets three times in tournament play.

The Blazers are 3-4 and have been idle since playing in the Green Bay East Tournament on August 26th. They lost to Southern Door 2-1 during that tournament run.

Match time is set for 7 p.m.

The Gibraltar Vikings football relied on its two Bradys to push them across the goal line in its 35-32 victory Thursday night over Suring.

The Vikings and Eagles traded scores all night long with Gibraltar drawing the first and only blood in the first quarter on a 47-yard touchdown pass from Brady Kita to Braden Sitte to make it 7-0 early. The Eagles would respond at the beginning of the second quarter when Michael Pecanas scored on a quarterback keeper from 23 yards out as the team took an 8-7 lead. Kita would match the score with his own scamper of 43 yards before putting the Vikings up 21-8 with an 11-yard touchdown pass to Sitte.

The Eagles would turn the tables on the Vikings from there, first by adding a one-yard touchdown pass from Pecanas to Michael Bailey to make it 21-14 at the break. Suring would dominate the time of possession from that point on, keeping the ball from 10 of the 12 minutes in the third quarter and more than half of the fourth quarter, keeping the Vikings offense on the sidelines. The extended time of the field paid dividends, first by Grant Thomsen from 12 yards out to make it 21-20.

The Eagles would take the lead on two different occasions in the fourth quarter thanks to long touchdown passes from Pecanas to Jake Cornell, each coming from more than 40 yards out. The Vikings responded each time, first on a 20-yard slant pass from Kita to Sitte and then the eventual game-winning score between the two players in the final minute.
