Vikings baseball pounce on Trojans miscues on 105.1 The GOAT

The Gibraltar/Washington Island baseball team took advantage three Green Bay Southwest errors to improve to 10-0 on the year with a 9-6 win.

The Vikings jumped on the Trojans from the first inning, scoring on singles from Aaron Brey and Cam Munao to make it 2-0.

The Trojans were able to get those runs back and then some in their half of the inning as Braxton Murphy and Jacob Richardson hit back-to-back extra base hits to build a 3-2 advantage. The Vikings would strike again in the second inning with Munao's bases-clearing double the most significant blow following a Trojan error that brought home a pair.

The Vikings' Bennett Isaacson-Krueger and the Trojans' Kolton Dudek calmed the game down after the two teams combined to score 10 runs in the first two innings, following the pace of the junior varsity game that saw Gibraltar/Washington Island win 17-12. An RBI single from Munao in the fourth inning and a sacrifice bunt from Mason Isaacson-Krueger made it 9-3 late. The Trojans would score three times in the bottom of the fifth, thanks in part to a two-run double from Ethan Richardson, to make it 9-6, but Brady Kita shut the door for the Vikings with two innings of scoreless baseball.

Munao ended the game with five RBI on four hits, while five others registered at least one hit. Bennett Isaascson-Krueger earned the win, striking out six across five innings while allowing six runs (5 ER) on 10 hits. The Trojans had three players with multiple hits, including Ethan Richardson, who went 2-4 with three RBI.

The Vikings are back in action on Friday when they host Peshtigo. Tim Kowols will have the call on 105.1 The GOAT and NEWRadioSportsNetwork.com beginning at 4:45 p.m. with the pregame show followed by the first pitch at 5 p.m.

Vikings baseball sweeps Eagles

A day late is better than never for the Gibraltar/Washington Island baseball team as they swept Southern Door in Brussels on Saturday 8-1 and 9-1.

A four-run second inning put the Vikings on pace to take game one in convincing fashion after losing an early 1-0 lead. Aaron Brey led the Vikings by going 3-4 with four RBI thanks in part to his two-run single in that fateful second inning. Four other Viking players posted hits in the win with Brady Kita, Cam Munao, and Mason Isaacson-Krueger registering RBI. Brey controlled things on the mound as well for the Vikings, going the distance with six strikeouts while allowing one run (0 ER) on four hits. Collin Everhard drove in the lone run for the Eagles in the first inning and was one of four to get a hit.

It was a similar story in the second game when a five-run fourth inning put the Vikings on the path to victory. After getting a man on with a lead-off error, Jaxin Lindgren, Hobbs Emerson, Liam Lindenberg, Mason Isaacson-Krueger, and Aaron Brey all had singles. Brady Kita led the way for the Vikings going 2-4 with one RBI while Brey posted another multi-RBI game along with Emerson and Isaacson-Krueger. Bennett Isaacson-Krueger got the win for the Vikings, striking out nine across four innings, allowing one run (1 ER) on three hits. That one run was courtesy of Drew Daoust, who singled in Braylon Bergo in the third inning.

Vikings softball outlast Crusaders for first win

A see-saw affair finally swung in the favor of Gibraltar/Washington Island in the end as they beat Sheboygan Lutheran 9-6 for their first victory of the season.

Down 3-0 early, the Vikings were able to tie the game up after two innings thanks to a Isla Fagundes RBI single and a two-run double roped by Abby Jarosh. The Crusaders responded immediately in the top of the third inning with another three-run frame to double up the Vikings 6-3. The Vikings would tie the game up in the fourth with the inning's big blow coming on a run-scoring double by Emilie Glocke. They took the lead in the next inning thanks in part to a RBI double from Pam Prescott and a RBI single from Megan Gallant. The Crusaders threatened in the seventh with the tying run standing at the plate, but Mia Glocke was able to shut the door for her first win of the season. Glocke earned the win from the circle by allowing six runs (3 ER) on seven hits across seven innings while striking out seven. Prescott recorded three hits while Jarosh and Fagundes each registered a pair of RBI.

Vikings baseball shuts out Crusaders

An eight-run fifth inning allowed Gibraltar/Washington Island to end its game in five innings against Sheboygan Lutheran, winning the contest 10-0.

The Vikings put two up on the board in the first inning thanks to a wild pitch and a passed ball. They would be held scoreless until the fifth inning when they collected five base hits, including run-scoring singles from Cam Munao, Jaxin Lindgren, Liam Lindenberg, and Mason Isaacson-Krueger. Munao and Lindenberg each collected two RBI in the win while Brady Kita reached base four times on a hit and three walks. Aaron Brey earned the win, allowing no runs on two hits while striking out seven.

The Vikings will play a doubleheader against Southern Door on Friday. Both ends will be carried on U-102.1 with Tim Kowols and Jacob Nate on the call.

Vikings softball falls short against Wolves

The Gibraltar/Washington Island softball team came up just short of its first victory of the season on Thursday, losing to Hilbert 6-4 in Fish Creek.

The Vikings found themselves chasing the Wolves from the second inning on after they collected two run-scoring hits in the frame and cashed in on another opportunity in third to make it 3-0. The Vikings would claw back in their half of the third inning with Pam Prescott singling in Megan Gallant and Courtney Foy getting on base thanks to an error to make it 3-2. After the Wolves scored once in the fourth inning and twice in the second inning, the Vikings would find the scoreboard once again thanks to runs scored by Celeste Ashley and Prescott. The Vikings would get only one baserunner the rest of the game to sink to 0-6 on the season.

Prescott and Ashley each had two hits in the game. Emilie Glocke took the loss from the circle, allowing six runs (5 ER) on seven hits while striking out five.

Brey's big day propels Vikings baseball to victory

Gibraltar/Washington Island's Aaron Brey drove in four runs to lead the Vikings to a 10-1 win over Hilbert on Thursday.

Scoreless after two innings, the Vikings struck first in the third inning when Jaxin Lindgren singled in a run after the team cashed in on an error committed by the Wolves to make 2-0. After the Wolves cut the lead in half in the top of fourth inning, the Vikings went on to score eight unanswered runs over the next two innings. In the fourth inning, the Vikings scored on a fielder's choice, a ground out, and a walk before Lindgren singled in another run. Brey cleared the bags with a double in the fifth inning before scoring himself on a Munao single to end the scoring for the game.

Braden Kita, Bennett Isaacson-Krueger, Owen Dannhausen, and Lindgren all had multi-hit games in the win. Isaacson-Krueger earned the victory on the mound, allowing one run (0 ER) on four hits while striking out seven.

Vikings baseball double up Wolves

Two late runs by Gibraltar/Washington Island helped them get past Algoma on the baseball diamond Tuesday afternoon 4-2.

A wild pitch opened the scoring in the second inning for the Vikings as Dannhausen was able to scamper home. The Wolves would respond in the top of the third with two runs. They pieced the rally together behind a single and a pair of walks before Charlie Prokash singled home two runs. The Vikings tied the game up in their half of the inning with Dannhausen driving home Braden Kita with a single to make it 2-2. It would stay that way until the sixth inning when Liam Lindenberg delivered a two-out single, and Cam Munao was able to run home on a Wolves miscue.  The Wolves got the tying run to the plate in the seventh inning, but Kita induced a pop-out to secure the save and the win for the Vikings. Aaron Brey sparkled on the mound, allowing two runs (2 ER) on five hits while striking out six. He was nearly matched by Prokash's outing, who allowed four runs (1 ER) on five hits while striking out six. Prokash and Dannhausen were the only players with multi-hit teams for their respective teams.

Coach Jay Kita was complimentary of both teams after the game, saying the matchup was well played despite the cold weather.

Vikings post top five performances in Denmark

The Gibraltar track team opened its outdoor season on a cold night in Denmark on Friday.

The Vikings boys' team had two events in which they placed in the top five. The 4x400m relay held its own on the girls' side for a top-five placement. Amelia Zoschke took third in the 100m hurdles and the long jump in the meet.

Vikings baseball stays perfect with win over Pioneers

The Gibraltar/Washington Island baseball team scored early and late in their 7-0 win over Sevastopol on Thursday.

The Vikings took advantage of an error and a dropped third strike to score twice in the first inning while a Braden Kita double staked them to a 3-0 advantage after two innings. It would stay that way until the seventh inning when Cam Munao drove in two run on a single and later scored along with Owen Dannhausen when Liam Lindenberg lined his own base hit.

Aaron Brey scored two runs to help his own cause on the mound, where he went the distance, allowing no runs on two hits and one walk while striking out six. Bennett Isaacson-Krueger also added a hit for the Vikings. Logan Schuh and Tyler Grooters accounted for the lone hits for the Pioneers.

Vikings baseball sweep Adams-Friendship Tournament

The Gibraltar/Washington Island baseball team saw its offense hit all cylinders on Saturday, beating Adams-Friendship 12-2 and Randolph 14-4.

in the first game, The Vikings scored at least three runs in each of the final three innings to end the game early at five innings. They broke the game wide open in the third inning when Cam Munao, Jaxin Lindgren, and Owen Dannhausen hit three consecutive run-scoring singles. Five different Vikings posted multi-hit games with Aaron Brey and Dannhausen driving three runs and Lindgren added two RBI. Bennett Isaacson-Krueger went the distance, allowing two runs (1 ER) on three hits.

in the second game, the Vikings scored all 14 of its runs before the Rockets got onto the scoreboard, only to see the game end after five innings. Aaron Brey hit a pair of doubles as a part of a four RBI day. Dannhausen registered three hits as a part of his three RBI day while Munao also drove in three runs. Ten different Vikings collected at least one hit in the team's third consecutive win of the season.

Vikings softball fall twice

The Gibraltar Vikings softball team finished its weekend tournament 0-3 after losing 20-5 to Lake Mills and Black River Falls 21-20.

In their first game, the Vikings committed seven errors and allowed 10 hits and seven walks in the rout. After giving up five runs in the first inning, the Vikings responded with five of their own thanks to two bases-loaded walks and a bases-clearing triple roped by Courtney Foy. It was all for naught however as the Vikings allowed 10 runs in the bottom half of the inning and another five runs in the third to end the game early. Megan Gallant and Abby Jarosh also collected hits in the game.

In the second game, the Vikings showed resilience after falling behind 13-5 after two innings to tie the game with eight runs in the third inning. In that inning, the Vikings took advantage of three bases-loaded walks, a run scoring single by Addison Richmond, and bases clearing triple by Megan Gallant. The two teams would trade runs the rest of the way and exchange five run innings in the seventh. However, it was the final run scored by the Tigers that walked off the Vikings to their third straight loss. Pam Prescott, Isla Fagundes, Gallant, and Richmond all had multi hit games. Foy led the Vikings with four RBI, followed by three by Richmond and Gallant and two from Fagundes. Defense betrayed the Vikings again as they committed seven errors. That helped Glocke's ERA stay intact as she allowed 21 runs, but only four were earned.

Eleven-run inning sinks Vikings softball in opener

The Columbus Catholic Dons batted around and then some in the bottom of the third to beat Gibraltar/Washington Island in the Vikings' season opener 16-6.

The two teams matched each other two runs in the first inning. Pam Prescott took advantage of two passed balls after she singled to score from third on an Emile Glocke groundout. Isla Fagundes' ground drove in Courtney Foy for the other run. The Vikings' bats fell silent after that before the Dons strutted 16 batters to the plate in the fatal third inning. The Dons clubbed a home run and two triples in the frame but also scored on four Vikings errors. After the Dons added three more runs in the fourth inning, the Vikings stated their case for extending the game. After Kylie Kwaterski drove in one run on a pop-out, Addison Richmond doubled home two runs, and Mia Glocke drew a bases-loaded walk to get the deficit to within 10 runs. A strikeout ended the game, entering the bottom of the fifth inning. Emilie Glocke took the loss, allowing 13 runs (three earned) on eight hits and five walks while striking out seven.

Vikings baseball doubles up Red Raiders

The Gibraltar/Washington Island Vikings baseball team opened its season with a win Friday morning, beating Marathon 6-3 at Adams-Friendship High School.

Aaron Brey opened the scoring with an RBI single and was brought home later when Owen Dannhausen laced one to centerfield for a single of his own. After the Red Raiders scored in their half of the first inning, it would stay that way until the fifth inning when Cam Munao and Wyatt Bultman drove in runs with doubles to make it 4-1 in favor of the Vikings. An error and a run-scoring single by Dannhausen capped off the scoring for the Vikings in the sixth. The Red Raiders matched that effort in their half of the sixth inning, but they would get no closer as the Vikings went on to win the game. Dannhausen and Jaxon Lindgren each had multi-hit games for the Vikings. Brey picked up the win, allowing all three runs (one earned) on four hits and two walks while striking out four. Braden Kita wrapped things up with a scoreless seventh inning to earn the save.

Vikings' Zoschke leads the way at UW-O meet

Gibraltar freshman Amelia Zoschke held her own in one of her first high school meets ever at the UW Oshkosh Girls-D2/D3 Meet.

Zoschke was the lone Vikings athlete to crack the top 10 in an event, finishing in eighth place. Mikala Gorham (high jump) and the 4x200m were the next closest with 12th-place finishes.
