Vikings baseball doubles up Red Raiders

The Gibraltar/Washington Island Vikings baseball team opened its season with a win Friday morning, beating Marathon 6-3 at Adams-Friendship High School.

Aaron Brey opened the scoring with an RBI single and was brought home later when Owen Dannhausen laced one to centerfield for a single of his own. After the Red Raiders scored in their half of the first inning, it would stay that way until the fifth inning when Cam Munao and Wyatt Bultman drove in runs with doubles to make it 4-1 in favor of the Vikings. An error and a run-scoring single by Dannhausen capped off the scoring for the Vikings in the sixth. The Red Raiders matched that effort in their half of the sixth inning, but they would get no closer as the Vikings went on to win the game. Dannhausen and Jaxon Lindgren each had multi-hit games for the Vikings. Brey picked up the win, allowing all three runs (one earned) on four hits and two walks while striking out four. Braden Kita wrapped things up with a scoreless seventh inning to earn the save.
