A day late is better than never for the Gibraltar/Washington Island baseball team as they swept Southern Door in Brussels on Saturday 8-1 and 9-1.
A four-run second inning put the Vikings on pace to take game one in convincing fashion after losing an early 1-0 lead. Aaron Brey led the Vikings by going 3-4 with four RBI thanks in part to his two-run single in that fateful second inning. Four other Viking players posted hits in the win with Brady Kita, Cam Munao, and Mason Isaacson-Krueger registering RBI. Brey controlled things on the mound as well for the Vikings, going the distance with six strikeouts while allowing one run (0 ER) on four hits. Collin Everhard drove in the lone run for the Eagles in the first inning and was one of four to get a hit.
It was a similar story in the second game when a five-run fourth inning put the Vikings on the path to victory. After getting a man on with a lead-off error, Jaxin Lindgren, Hobbs Emerson, Liam Lindenberg, Mason Isaacson-Krueger, and Aaron Brey all had singles. Brady Kita led the way for the Vikings going 2-4 with one RBI while Brey posted another multi-RBI game along with Emerson and Isaacson-Krueger. Bennett Isaacson-Krueger got the win for the Vikings, striking out nine across four innings, allowing one run (1 ER) on three hits. That one run was courtesy of Drew Daoust, who singled in Braylon Bergo in the third inning.
