Blue Devils block Viking boys from victory on 105.1 The GOAT

An eight-minute scoring drought spelled trouble for the Gibraltar Vikings boys basketball team as they lost to the Oconto Blue Devils in Fish Creek Friday night.

The Vikings traded blows with the Blue Devils early with Luke Rericha countering Carter Koch with three-pointers. The offense would disappear three minutes into the game and not return until Rericha bookended the drought with one of his four three-pointers. Meanwhile, the trio of Koch, Cooper Campshure, and Trenton Hartman sparked a 12-0 put the Vikings into a hole they would not be able to dig out of as they entered the locker room down 31-16.

The Vikings would have to weather another storm at the beginning of the second half as the Blue Devils scored 10 of the first 14 points, keep their lead at 20-plus points for the majority of the half. As Rericha cooled off, Marco Jauregui heated up from behind the arc in his place.

Rericha ended his night as the lone Vikings player in double figures with 14 points. Jauregui added nine points, and Braden Kita chipped in seven points. The Blue Devils' Koch led all scorers with 23 points, while Campshure contributed 14 points, and Hartman added seven. Eleven players scored at least two points for the Blue Devils.

The Vikings head out onto the road on Tuesday as they travel to face Wabeno-Laona.

The Gibraltar girls basketball team kept things close in the first half, but made only three shots from the field in the second half of a 57-39 loss to Peshtigo Thursday night.

Mikala Gorham spent much of her night scoring from the free throw line, drilling six of her eight attempts en route to a team-high 11 points. Anna Jarosh and Megan Schar each hit three shots from the field as they tried their best to keep up with the fire power of Audra Bauman and Skylyn Baxter. The Bulldogs held a 32-28 lead at the break and outscored the Vikings 25-11 in the second half to seal the victory. Baxter had a game high 17 points while Bauman added another 15 points. Vikings boys outlast Blazers on 105.1 The GOAT

Kayin Jackson's contested lay-up with 0.9 seconds remaining proved to be the difference as the Gibraltar boys basketball team squeaked past NEW Lutheran Tuesday night 69-67 in overtime.

Early turnovers plagued both teams' offensive momentum before the Vikings' Luke Rericha and the Blazers' Grayson Herlache were able to get their respective teams on track. Rericha hit three three-pointers in the first half to help the Vikings take a 31-27 lead into the locker room.

The teams' leading scorers got on track in the second half as the Vikings' Kayin Jackson and Braden Kita were countered by the Blazers' Reid Nelson and Hayden Schultz. The Vikings would build a lead of up to 10 points before the Blazers could tie the game late. A Jackson lay-up gave the Vikings a three-point lead before Herlache delivered a game-tying three-pointer that forced the extra period.

Marco Jauregui helped keep the Vikings ahead in overtime, but Jackson's lay-up ultimately delivered the Vikings their first win of the season.

The Vikings were led by Jauregui's 22 points, followed by Jackson's 16 points, and 13 points apiece from Kita and Rericha. The Blazers were paced by Herlache's 19 points followed by 14 from Nelson and 11 from Schultz.

The Vikings return to action on Friday night when they host Oconto. Tim Kowols will have the call on 105.1. The GOAT will begin at 6:45 p.m., with the pregame show followed by the tip at 7 p.m.
