United soccer trounces New Holstein

The Gibraltar/Sevastopol United boys varsity soccer team began the 2024 season in decisive fashion Tuesday evening in New Holstein, defeating the hosting Huskies 8-0. Senior co-captain Trey Perlman opened the scoring in the fifth minute, and went on to record a hat trick for the match (5'; 18'; 43') The other goal scorers for United included senior Canyon Burgard (26') junior Ferdnando Jauregui (37'), senior Tyler Grooters (48') junior Ian Andrews (53') and junior Marco Jauregui (77'), whose final goal ended the match. 

An experienced back line anchored by seniors Yahir Valdivia, co-captain Vince Toneys and junior Marco Jauregui defended well against the Husky attacks, and several saves by junior goalie Aaron Tomaszewski preserved the clean sheet for the keeper.  

Next up for United is a home contest in Fish Creek against Providence Academy at 6:30pm on Thursday, August 29. Next week sees United away in an early-season contest against Packerland Conference arch-rivals Sturgeon Bay on Thursday, September 5 at 6:30pm, followed by tournament play in Winneconne on Saturday, September 7. 

The United JV team faces Washington Island away this afternoon, Wednesday, August 28.
