Gibraltar/Washington Island opens WIAA Baseball Tournament vs. Rosholt on 105.1 The GOAT

The Gibraltar/Washington Island Vikings will end their nearly weeklong layoff Tuesday afternoon when they host the Rosholt Hornets in the second round of the WIAA Baseball Tournament.

The Vikings ended their season with a manic stretch that saw them play eight games in eight days, including three doubleheaders. They went 5-3, earning doubleheader sweeps against Peshtigo and Sturgeon Bay while losing their season finale against top-ranked Coleman. The Vikings had several players make the Packerland All-Conference Team, including First Teamers Brady Kita (catcher) and Rylan Caldecott (outfield), Second Teamers Noah Greene (pitcher), Bennett Issacson (pitcher), Aiden Purinton (infield), and Honorable Mention designees Will Friedenfels (outfield) and Aaron Brey (utility/DH).

The Hornets enter the game 8-11 and are coming off a 9-0 win against Almond-Bancroft on Thursday in their WIAA opener. They have been streaky to end the season, following a four-game streak with a stretch where they went 1-4, including getting shut out three times.

Tim Kowols will have the call on 105.1 The GOAT and NEWRadioSportsNetwork.com beginning at 4:15 p.m. with the pregame show followed by the first pitch at 4:30 p.m. If the Vikings win, 105.1 The GOAT will carry Wednesday's regional final when they host Lena or play at Pacelli.
