Vikings ride hot streak to second straight doubleheader sweep

Head coach Jay Kita has said this season that his boys like the warmer weather, and it showed once again Tuesday as the Gibraltar Vikings baseball team beat Sturgeon Bay 8-2 and 15-3.

In game one, Aaron Brey tallied three hits while teammates Will Friedenfels, Bennett Isaacson, and Marshall Maltby each registered two knocks. The Vikings poured it on late with three runs in each of the final two frames. Noah Greene nearly went the distance before giving up two runs in the seventh inning while striking out nine. The Clippers' Danny Lodl nearly matched him, going five innings and giving up two runs while striking out six. Garrett Ulberg knocked in one of the two runs for the Clippers, who along with Lodl and Gavin Fernandez had two hits.

In game two, an eight-run third inning and a six-run fourth inning ended the festivities early at Memorial Field for the Vikings. They were helped by 14 walks issued by Clippers pitchers. Brady Kita and Friedenfels were the only two players for the Vikings to register multiple hits, but they made those hits count as they combined to drive in seven runs. Brey also had three RBI at the plate while also pitching the final three innings of the game, fanning six Clippers along the way. Bryce Plzak led the way for the Clippers offensively, going 1-3 with an RBI double.

The Vikings are back in action on Friday when they play their third straight doubleheader on Friday at Oconto. Tim Kowols will have the call on 105.1 The GOAT and NEWRadioSportsNetwork.com.
