Errors sink Vikings baseball vs. Kewaunee

The Gibraltar Vikings' baseball team could not generate the offense needed to mask their mistakes in the field on Tuesday losing both ends of a doubleheader by the scores of 10-1 and 9-1.

In the first game, the Vikings committed seven errors while the Storm scored in every inning but the seventh to win 10-1. Owen Carlson led the way offensively for the Storm, going 2-4 with three RBI while Payton Kohnle, Cal Ihlenfeldt, Mitchell Thompson, Caleb Schaller, and Braxton Riha all knocked in one of their own. Ihlenfeldt went the distance, striking out 10 Vikings with an RBI hit by Rylan Caldecott his lone blemish on the afternoon. Noah Greene took the loss as he gave up four runs across three innings.

In game two, the Vikings cut down on their mistakes but the hits kept coming for Kewaunee as they won 9-1. The Storm registered 12 hits in the contest, led by Carlson's three knocks to go along with another two RBI. Ihlenfeldt went 2-4 with three RBI. Braden Kita led the Vikings offensively in game two, going 2-3 with a home run in the sixth inning. Schaller nearly matched Ihlenfeldt's effort in the second game by going six innings, allowing a run but striking 10 out along the way. Bennett Isaacson took the loss, allowing five runs across four innings.

The two teams face off against each other again on Saturday at Fox Cities Stadium after the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers face the South Bend Cubs. The game will air on 105.1 The GOAT and NEWRadioSportsNetwork.com with Tim Kowols and Jacob Nate on the call.
