The Gibraltar Vikings came back late, but ultimately could not absorb the storm of a six-run second inning in a 7-4 loss to Kewaunee Saturday evening at Fox Cities Stadium.
Each team tried their hardest to get all of their players into the special matchup that followed a 4-2 win by the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers over the South Bend Cubs. More than 40 players appeared in the game, including six pitchers for Gibraltar and seven pitchers for Kewaunee.
The Vikings opened the scoring in the first inning when Rylan Caldecott took advantage of a wild pitch to make it 1-0. The Storm answered when Mitchel Thompson's single drove in Payton Kohnle. After the Vikings went 1-2-3 in their half of the second inning, the Storm batted around against Bennett Isaacson with Caleb Schaller, Collin Spranger, Kohnle, Owen Carlson, and Cal Ihlenfeldt recording hits.
The Vikings' pitching clamped down the Storm's offense after that, allowing just two hits and four total baserunners after that. The Vikings were able to chip away in subsequent innings, with Brady Kita scoring on an Aaron Brey single that squeaked past Kewaunee's Carlson. The Vikings made one more push in the sixth inning, with Liam Lindenberg drawing a bases-loaded walk and Owen Dannhausen hitting an RBI single. The Storm's Waylon Delain ended any hope of a threat in the seventh inning, striking out the side to end the game.
The Vikings will play Peshtigo in a home doubleheader on Monday.
