Gibraltar baseball welcomes Hilbert

The Gibraltar baseball team hopes to break a long layoff with a non-conference matchup against Hilbert Monday afternoon.

The Vikings had won seven of their first eight games prior to their recent four-game losing streak. The Vikings have given up at least seven runs in each of the four games and allowed double-digit totals during last weekend's games against host Adams-Friendship and St. Mary's Springs. The pitching and defense had otherwise been keeping opponents at bay, allowing 20 fewer runs during the previous eight games (22 runs allowed) than they have in the last four contests (42 runs allowed last week). Kita feels confident that his team will be able to turn it around, especially after facing two top teams in the state in Wisconsin Dells.

Hilbert has lost six of their last seven games and they are just 2-10 on the year. They have been shut out four times this season, including a 13-0 loss to Oostburg in their last game and a 32-0 defeat to Brillion to open the year.

The first pitch is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. in Fish Creek.
