Fast start by Storm dooms Kiel on 104.1 WRLU

The Kewaunee Storm boys basketball team remained undefeated, powered by a fast start, to take down Kiel 75-41 as heard on 104.1 WRLU.

The Storm came out of the gate fast, jumping out to a 10-2 run that prompted a Kiel Raiders timeout.  The Raiders hit a three but Kewaunee began another run, this time a 13-0 advantage before Kiel got back in the scoring column. Kiel wasn’t ready to go down without a fight. Despite trailing by as much as 19, the Raiders clawed their way back into the game, and after a foul on Kiel’s Logan Brunner in the waning seconds on an attempted three pointer gave the Raiders three free throws and Kewaunee’s lead shrunk to 40-31 at halftime.

Kiel came out of the halftime break red hot and got off to a 10-3 advantage in the second, trimming the Storm lead to just 2 points at 43-41. Kewaunee coach Matt Bosdeck called a timeout and was able to rally the troops and relied on leading scorer Diesel Bosdeck to help create some separation.  Kewaunee was able to build their advantage back to double figures. The Raiders fought back with a last gasp in the final minutes but it was not enough as the Storm held on for the 75-61 win.

Kewaunee got a plethora of scoring in the win, as 4 players finished the game in double figures. Mason Kovacs led the way with 18 points, aided by Avery Jerabek’s 16 points, 15 from Connor Kilgore, and 11 from Diesel Bosdeck.  For Kiel, Logan Brunner scored 16 to lead the Raiders and he was joined in double figures by Trevin Heller.

Kewaunee will be back in action after a day off on Friday, when it hosts NEW Lutheran on Saturday afternoon. That game is slated for a 2 p.m. tipoff.

Kewaunee hosts Kiel on 104.1 WRLU

The #2 ranked Kewaunee Storm will host the Kiel Purple Raiders in a nonconference matchup Thursday night, and will be heard on 104.1 WRLU.

Kewaunee will look to remain undefeated on the season, coming off a 78-54 thrashing of Shiocton earlier this week.  Diesel Bosdeck finished the game with 23 points, Connor Kilgore with 16, and Dane Harrell with 11 to round out the double figure scoring efforts first the Storm.

Their opponent tonight is the Kiel Raiders, who come into action at an 11-5 record, fresh off back to back wins, including a 71-30 win over Chilton on Tuesday. Logan Brunner leads the Raiders with 16.2 points per game, to go with Trevin Heller’s 12.7, and Miles Detroye adding 11.3 points per game.

Eric Fischer will have the call from Kewaunee High School, with the pregame show starting at 6:45 and tipoff slated for 7:00 pm.

Storm use 14-point second-half run to down Chiefs

In rare fashion this season, Kewaunee trailed Shiocton after the first half of play. The Storm struggled to convert consistently after forced turnovers and allowed the Chiefs to keep things close including holding the lead countless times.

The start of the second half was much of the same, both teams exchanged the lead on almost every possession it seemed. That was until Kewaunee broke a 14-0 run that was broken up by two timeouts from Schiocton over the span of 4 minutes.

From there, the Storm never lost control and used their second half momentum to seal the victory. Kewaunee overcame the one point half time deficit and dominated the final 10 minutes for a 78-54 win over the Chiefs.

The Storm have home-court advantage battling Kiel Thursday at 7 p.m.

No. 2-ranked Storm boys' basketball on the road against Chiefs

Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.

Kewaunee's Gauthier looks ahead to the future with eyes on the present

Even though his fall plans are pretty much solidified, Kewaunee wrestler Trevor Gauthier still has plenty to prove before his high school career comes to a close.

Gauthier is riding a winning streak heading into Saturday's tournament at Sheboygan North. He went 3-0 at a triple-dual earlier this week against Manitowoc Lutheran, Marinette, and Sturgeon Bay/Sevastopol after winning four matches last Saturday to win the Freedom Irish Invitational. This season's success so far did not come without hard work, something that is not lost on Gauthier.

With one eye on the present, Gauthier has the other eye on the future. He plans on attending UW-Stevens Point this fall as a member of the football team as he comes of a senior campaign that saw him earn First Team All-Conference honors as a defensive back. He is still determining on whether he wants to go into elementary education or finance. Gauthier is getting a crash course on a possible career in elementary education working with the district's 3K and 4K students. He says it has been fun working with the kids and seeing them in the hallways.

Gauthier looks to extend his winning ways this weekend when the Kewaunee wrestling team travels to Sheboygan North for an invitational. You can hear our whole conversation with Gauthier as a part of our weekly Kewaunee County Wrestling Podcast.

Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.

Kewaunee Girls Tested by Valders

The Storm have been playing strong basketball as of late and their now 12-3 record speaks for itself, but Valders gave them a run for their money in a close matchup that went the distance. It's not something a lot of teams have been able to do against Kewaunee this year.

It was the second lowest point differential in a win for Kewaunee all season with a eight point win for the Storm, 56-48.

Kewaunee had to work for it, they got out to a 5-point lead early, but Valders stayed close and led at the break, 31-26.

The lead and control of the game was kept by the Vikings until a lay-in from the Storm tied the game at 44 with 5 minutes remaining. A turnover and 4-point swing went for Kewaunee and the game was solidified in their favor after that with Jade Kroll at the line to put the Storm ahead 5 going into the final minute.

Kewaunee will go head-to-head with Manitowoc Lutheran (13-3) on Wednesday at 7 p.m. which could be a pivotal game for both teams down the stretch.

Storm girls' basketball hosting Vikings

The Kewaunee girls’ basketball team will host the Valders Vikings on Tuesday. Valders is coming off a 54-42 victory over New Holstein.

The Storm are coming off an 86-17 win over Gibraltar where four players scored in double figures. Kewaunee has been led this season by two-time Packerland Conference Player of the Year Jade Kroll, who scored 28 points against the Vikings and is averaging 21.6 points, 5.2 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 3.1 steals per game. Gabby Stangel is contributing 10.2 points, 2.4 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 3.3 steals per game.

Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Gibraltar overpowered by Kewaunee girls at home

After defeating an undefeated Packerland conference opponent Friday night in Algoma, Kewaunee stayed aggressive and came out firing Saturday. They are led strongly by 2x Packerland Conference Player of the Year Jade Kroll, a senior for the Storm, who is the facilitator of the Storm's offense. Even when she isn't the one putting the ball through the hoop she is actively involved in the offense. Yet it's not just Kroll, she has a strong supporting cast and it was too much for Gibraltar to handle as they fell 86-17. It was Kewaunee's highest scoring output on the season, which hadn't eclipsed 75 previously. Gibraltar will face N.E.W. Lutheran next Thursday at 7 p.m. with an opportunity to get back to the performance they had against Stockbridge two games ago. Meanwhile, Kewaunee has their third game in 5 days, facing Valders at home Tuesday with a 7 p.m. start.

Kewaunee stays rolling in back-to-back

On the road at Southern Door for a mid afternoon game, Kewaunee came out of the gates ready to go with no signs of having just played a game the night before. They were held to one of their lowest outputs in the scoring column on the season, but made up for it defensively, holding the Eagles to 34 in the 67-34 win Saturday. Diesel Bosdeck continues to shine for the Storm and has helped his team come in at #4 in the area's most recent rankings for high school boys basketball. Kewaunee has been tested a few times this season, but remains undefeated going into another big Packerland conference matchup this week facing a 10-3 Algoma squad that will be held at Algoma, who came in at #8 on the same rankings list. The game will be a 7 p.m. tip off Tuesday, arrive early for a good seat!

Kewaunee handles Sturgeon Bay at home

With snowstorms rolling through the area, the Kewaunee Storm boys moved forward with their strong start to the season taking down the Clippers who won of 4 of their last 5 going into Friday's matchup.

The win came 73-45 at the Strom's home gym improving their record to 10-0 on the season with about a month of regular season play ahead.

Kewaunee remains in the lead of the Packerland conference race with Algoma right behind who the Storm face January 20th at 7 p.m., but first up is Southern Door with a less than 24 hour rest, Saturday's game tips off at 4 p.m. at SD.

Sturgeon Bay gets the break until next Tuesday at 7 p.m., facing N.E.W. Lutheran at home for a chance to move up in the conference standings themselves.

Storm boys' wrestling travels to Freedom invitational

Mitchell Boeder recorded the 100th pin of his high school career, extending the school record he set earlier this season. The Storm won four of the nine contested matches, with additional pins from Aiden Ducat, Anakin Reimer, and Tucker Du Fresne.

Vikings girls' basketball taking on Storm at home

The Gibraltar girls’ basketball team hosts the Kewaunee Storm on Saturday. The Storm sit atop the Packerland Conference with a 6-0 conference record, while the Vikings are in sixth place at 2-5 in conference play.

The Storm are looking to bounce back from their first loss in the past 10 games, a 54-49 setback to Shawano. This season, Kewaunee has been led by Jade Kroll, who is averaging 21.6 points, 5.2 rebounds, 2.8 assists, and 3.1 steals per game. Gabby Stangel is averaging 10.2 points, 2.4 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 3.3 steals per game.

The Vikings are looking to build off a 69-11 victory over Stockbridge. The scoring effort was spread throughout the offense, led by Azucena Jauregui with 12 points. Celeste Jauregui added 11 points, while Josie Martin and Megan Schar chipped in 10 points apiece. Defensively, Celeste Jauregui and Schar each recorded six steals, while Ella Clark and Azucena Jauregui added five steals each.

Boeder reaches pin milestone in Storm wrestling's win over Bulldogs

Mitchell Boeder continued his assault on Kewaunee Wrestling's record books on Thursday in the team's 42-31 win over Peshtigo.

The Storm won four of the nine contested matches with forfeits and other pins from Aiden Ducat, Anakin Reimer, and Tucker Du Fresne proving to be the difference.

Kewaunee controls game pace on way to win over Algoma

After Algoma scored the games first bucket and a variety of lead changes in the first six minutes, Kewaunee took over and controlled the pace of the game for the final 30 minutes on their way to a controlling 54-41 victory.

The Storm built their biggest lead of the first half going into the break, 26-19, and would continue to lay it on offensively pulling ahead by 13 halfway through the final half.

Algoma didn't go down without a fight, bringing the game back within six with four minutes to go. Kewaunee did just enough defensively to maintain possessions late and then closed it out from the free throw line.

Kewaunee (10-2) moves to 6-0 in Packerland games as they prepare for a non-conference date with Shawano Community Thursday at 7 p.m. Algoma (7-6) hits a small bump in the road, but faces Sturgeon Bay Saturday at 2 p.m. for an opportunity to get back on track.

Storm girls' basketball hosting Wolves

The Kewaunee girls’ basketball team hosts the Algoma Wolves on Tuesday. Algoma is coming off a 63-20 victory over Gibraltar. Reagan Schneider led the Wolves with 15 points, followed by Sadie Rikkola with 12 points, nine rebounds, three assists and two steals. Lauren Lockes recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds, along with two steals.
The Storm are also coming off a win, defeating Sturgeon Bay 74-18. Kewaunee is riding an eight-game winning streak, with its last loss coming against Notre Dame on Dec. 9.
Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.

Kewaunee alum, NFL player to return for Laces 4 Life event

A familiar name in Kewaunee football lore is coming back to support an organization championing mental health.

Former Wisconsin and current Indianapolis Colts offensive lineman Tanor Bortolini is headlining the first Laces 4 Life Dinner Event at The Waterfront in Kewaunee on May 8th. The event will honor the finalists from the area's high schools and announce the winner, for the Laces 4 Life: The Owen Vaughn Memorial Scholarship & Cleat Award. You can purchase your tickets here.

Bortolini was selected by the Colts in the fourth round (117th overall) of the 2024 NFL Draft after four-year careers at Wisconsin and Kewaunee.

Kewaunee boys play at home against Brillion

Their perfect record is still on the line Monday when the Kewaunee boys basketball team welcomes Brillion for a non-conference affair.

The Storm had their Packerland Conference matchup against Southern Door postponed due to weather, preventing them for extending their season-long winning streak to nine. With Diesel Bosdeck (18.1 ppg), Connor Kilgore (16.2 ppg), and Avery Jerabeck (14.2 ppg) all averaging double figures, only two of their wins have been by less than 10 points.

The Lions come to Kewaunee with an 8-2 record, winning four of their last five games. They also boast three players averaging double figures on the season, led by Colton Larsen and his 19.2 ppg.

Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.

Storm climb to early lead and don't look back

Kewaunee was hosted by Sturgeon Bay Friday and turned an early lead into a convincing victory 74-18.

The Storm continue a strong start to the season at 9-2 they are looking to push for a conference title and beyond as they are led by senior Jade Kroll one of the area's top scorers on the girls side of the ball.

Kroll got started early with a big three-pointer that gave them a 5-0 lead, part of a 10-2 start for Kewaunee. They also brought full-court ball pressure that led to turnovers from the Clippers and fast break points, growing the lead for the Storm.

Kewaunee has won eight straight since losing to Notre Dame December 9. The Storm face Algoma January 13 at 7 p.m. while Sturgeon Bay (3-9) will be traveling to Green Bay for a date with NEW Lutheran.

Kewaunee spoils Madsen's milestone night in dual win over SBS

The Kewaunee wrestling team captured points in eight of the 14 weight classes Thursday night to escape with a 41-33 win over Sturgeon Bay/Sevastopol.

A string of four victories in a row by Anakin Reimer, Mason VanGoethem, Trevor Gauthier, and Tucker Du Fresne proved to be the difference the Storm need to take the Packerland dual. Gauthier, Du Fresne, Mitchell Boeder, Samuel Kraynik, and Nolan Lambrecht picked up pins for the Storm while Julian Langer, Patrick Shefchik, and Ray Johnson, Jr. collected falls for SBS. SBS' Nate Hasenjager was the lone beneficiary of a forfeit.

In the final match of the night at 175 pounds, Spencer Madsen kept his perfect record intact with a 21-6 technical fall against Evan Romero. That was Madsen's 150th career win, further extending his school record for career wins.

Both teams will head to tournaments on Saturday with Kewaunee traveling to Valders and Sturgeon Bay/Sevastopol joining Southern Door in New London.
