Storm tops Wolves on 104.1 WRLU

The Kewaunee Storm prevailed 62-55 in a Packerland Conference boys basketball battle Saturday afternoon at Fulwiler Fieldhouse.

Algoma came out on fire taking an 8-4 lead in the opening minutes, only to see Kewaunee go on an 8-0 run to capture a 12-8 lead they would not relinquish.

Building a 31-23 lead into halftime, the Storm took advantage of second and third chances on the offensive boards.

The second half saw Algoma narrow the lead to 36-33, but that would be as close as they would get as Kewaunee extended their lead to as much as 13 points.

Thomas Stangel had a game-high 19 points for the Storm, with Avery Jerabek adding 16, and Connor Kilgore tallying 13 while controlling the boards.

Algoma was paced by Parker Lischka’s 18 points and Jack Cole hit four three-pointers for his 12 points.

The Wolves (4-4, 8-5 overall) will now host NEW Lutheran on Tuesday, while the Storm (7-1, 9-4 overall) travel to Fish Creek for a matchup with Gibraltar.

Kewaunee girls storm past Gibraltar on NRSN

The Kewaunee Storm girls' basketball team made a living by turning turnovers into points as they cruised past Gibraltar Thursday night 71-25 in front of its home crowd.

The Vikings played better to start the second half as Andie Schar and Emile Glocke traded baskets to start chipping away at the Storm advantage. Kroll and Demmin continued to hit shots, ending their nights with 23 and 19 points. Breanna Riha and Braelyn Chevalier each added 10 points in the Storm victory. In her postgame comments, head coach Lynn Geier commended her top scorers but lauded her other players who helped create the opportunities.

Foul trouble kept Mikala Gorham off the court, as she registered just a single basket in the second half. Schar ended her evening with a team-high 11 points, followed by Glocke's five points and four points from McKailey Reisen. Head coach Evan DeBroux lamented over not having four of his players available to play the whole game but appreciated the effort they continued to show during the game.
