Kewaunee's Boeder in line for medal at state tournament

Kewaunee's Mitchell Boeder remains in line for a medal after two days of the WIAA Individual State Wrestling Tournament in Madison.

 

After earning pins in his first two matches, Boeder was on the receiving end of one from Grant Mathews (Riverdale) to send him to the third-place match on Saturday.  Arianna Niemojuski narrowly missed out on a second chance at advancing, losing to Aubrey Hilton (Eau Claire North-Girls) by sudden victory.

Storm blast Rockets on 104.1 WRLU, face Valders in Regional final Saturday

Kewaunee Storm rallied from an early nine-point deficit to breeze by the Cedar Grove-Belgium Rockets 65-46 Friday night in a WIAA Divison 4 Regional Sectional semifinal.

The #2 Storm fell behind 12-3 out of the gate to the #7 Rockets but went on a 15-3 run to close out the first half to take a 31-22 lead into intermission.

 

Kewaunee was paced by Jade Kroll who scored 16 of her game-high 22 points in the second half as the Storm pulled away late. 

 

 

 

Gabby Stangel added 14 points while Lexie Hanrahan chipped in 12 more as Kewaunee closed out the game in style.

 

Cedar Grove- Belgium (16-10) was led by Aubrey Marti with 16 points, while Olivia Bahr added 11 points in the loss. 

 

The Storm (20-4) will now host the regional final on Saturday night against the #3 Valders Vikings, who knocked Kewaunee out of the playoffs last season.

 

The pregame on 104.1 WRLU will start at 6:45 p.m., with tip-off at 7:00 p.m. Paul Schmitt and Eric Fischer will call, and the game will also be streamed on NEW Radio Sports Network.

 

 

 

Kewaunee's Boeder pins his way to semifinals

Kewaunee's Mitchell Boeder is well on his way to medaling at the WIAA Individual State Tournament after posting a pair of wins on Thursday.

 

Boeder pinned Vadim Misiura (Cedar Grove-Belgium) in the first period and Jovan Lopez (Ozaukee) in the second period to earn to advance to Friday's semifinals. Arianna Niemojuski was not as lucky as she lost in her first match by injury default to Bella Roman (Ashland-Girls).

Storm host Cedar Grove-Belgium in regional on 104.1 WRLU Friday

The Packerland Conference girls’ basketball champion Kewaunee Storm will battle the Cedar Grove-Belgium Rockets at home on Friday night in a WIAA Divison 4 Regional Sectional semifinal.

 

The #2 seeded Storm (19-4) won the Packerland Conference with a  15-1 record and has won four straight games.

 

The Storm clinched the championship last Friday with an 85-34 rout of the Peshtigo Bulldogs with Jade Kroll scoring 28 points for Kewaunee in the win.

 

Cedar Grove- Belgium (16-9) beat Manitowoc Roncalli 70-60 on Tuesday in the first round of the tournament and finished third in the Big East-South Conference with a 7-5 record.

 

Sophomore Olivia Bahr is the Rockets' leading scorer, with a 16.5 average and 7.4 rebounds per game.

Kewaunee's Boeder captures sectional crown in Valders

Kewaunee's Mitchell Boeder had a quick Saturday en route to another date in Madison next weekend after claiming the sectional championship in Valders.

 

Boeder had three pins on Saturday, with only one of them reaching the second period to capture the crown at 285 pounds.

Kewaunee's Niemojuski punches ticket to state

A loss in the title match did not come back to haunt Kewaunee's Arianna Niemojuski as she clinched a spot in next weekend's girls wrestling state tournament after a second-place finish in Friday's Menasha Sectional.

 

Niemojuski secured two pins at 152 pounds before losing to Brooke Hansen (Wrightstown) by a 3-0 decision in the title match. She advance to the state tournament via no contest against Caitlyn Popp (Chilton/Hilbert).

Storm girls near outright title after rivalry win

The Kewaunee Storm girls basketball team sits one win away from an outright Packerland Conference championship after beating its rival Algoma 50-36.

 

The two sides played a tight first half as the Storm held a slim 25-24 lead at the break. That's when the Storm's defense shined as they allowed just 12 points the rest of the way, eight of which came from Algoma's Bristol Schmidt. Gabby Stangel led the second half revival with seven of her 11 points coming after the break. Lilly Morton led the Storm with 12 points, followed by Stangel's 11 and 10 points from Jade Kroll. Schmidt led the Wolves with 12 points while Sierra Slaby pitched in nine points and Brooke Mattson chipped in five points.

 

The Storm are back in action on Friday night to face Peshtigo. A win will give them a one-game edge over Sevastopol and a chance to win the Packerland Conference outright. The Bulldogs lost to the Pioneers 60-29 on Thursday night with Athena Powers the leading scorer with six points. Tip-off is at 7 p.m.

Kewaunee boys storm past Sevastopol 65-39

The Kewaunee Storm boys basketball team rolled to an easy 65-39 home win over the Sevastopol Pioneers Tuesday night in Packerland Conference action.

 

Avery Jerabek scored 17 points to lead the Storm, while Cooper Kolmorgen added 16, and Connor Kilgore chipped in 11.

 

Logan Schuh paced the Pioneers with 11 points. 

 

Kewaunee (11-2, 15-6 overall) will now battle Southern Door Friday night in a showdown.  The Storm trail the undefeated Eagles by two games in the conference and lost a close one earlier this year at home against Southern Door. 

Storm girls breeze past Clippers

The Kewaunee Storm girls basketball team spoiled Senior Night for the Sturgeon Bay Clippers on Monday night with an 87-44 victory.

 

The Storm led 46-19 at the break and sailed home from there, as five players registered double figures, with two others right on the doorstep of joining them. Jade Kroll led all scorers with 22 points, while Lily Morton and Lexi Hanrahan scored 13 points, and Summer Walechka and Gabby Stangel each registered 10 points. Regan Kasten led the Clippers with 17 points, while Dasha Yelysheva poured in 15 points, and Cady Carlson chipped in with eight points.

Kewaunee's Boeder captures Omro Regional crown

Three Kewaunee wrestlers will have an extra weekend to their season after advancing out of the Omro Regional on Saturday.

 

Mitchell Boeder was the Storm's biggest winner, pinning his way to a title at 285 pounds. Trevor Gauthier split his matches at 150 pounds to take third place while Sam Kraynik was able to wrestle his way back into the sectional tournament with a win in the fourth place match.

Storm boys sink Clippers

The Kewaunee Storm boys basketball team got back on the right track on Thursday night with a 65-58 win over Sturgeon Bay.

 

Dane Harrell led all scorers with 18 points while Diesel Bosdeck added 14 points in the Storm winner. The Storm's efforts were countered by the Clippers' Jackson Starr and Braeden Evers, who both scored 16 points in the loss.

Kewaunee boys lose heartbreaker to Oconto

The Kewaunee Storm dropped a tightly contested game to the Oconto Blue Devils 57-54 in Kewaunee.

 

The Storm got a three-pointer from freshman Diesel Bosdeck with just five seconds left to tie the game at 54, but Cooper Campshire hit a trey at the buzzer to give the Blue Devils the Packerland Conference win.

 

Oconto improves to 7-5 in conference and 14-5 overall.

 

Kewaunee (9-2, 13-6 overall) will play at Sturgeon Bay on Thursday at 7 p.m. 

Kewaunee's Niemojuski just misses Preble title

Kewaunee's Arianna Niemojuski was one win away from winning her second title of the season, taking second place at the Green Bay Preble Girls Wrestling Tournament on Saturday.

 

Niemojuski recorded two pins her first three wins on the day before losing 4-2 to Izzy Andreae in the championship match.

Kewaunee wrestling loses to Oconto to conclude Packerland slate

Wrestling in honor of its fallen teammate, Kewaunee could not overcome six empty weight classes in a 36-30 loss to Oconto Thursday night.

 

The Storm won just one of its contested matches against the Blue Devils thanks to Mitchell Boeder's first period pin at 285 pounds. The score was made closer thanks to earning forfeits at four other weight classes. The Storm also forfeited four weight classes, two of which were considered double forfeits.

Storm athletics schedule sees changes in wake of tragedy

Following a tragedy in the Kewaunee community, the high school's athletics teams are seeing their schedules change.

 

Tuesday's games against Peshtigo were postponed after Owen Vaughn tragically passed away. The boys game will be played on February 10th and the girls game will take place on February 21st. The Storm girls game against Sevastopol was also postponed with no make-up date announced.

 

The wrestling team will still have its dual tonight against Oconto. The school's teams, clubs, and community members are asking residents to come to the dual to show their support of one of the teams Vaughn was a part of. The dual begins at 7 p.m.

 

 

The NEW Radio Sports Network staff expresses their deepest sympathies to the Vaughn family and the Kewaunee community during this time of mourning and remembrance.

Storm wrestle with heavy heart Thursday vs. Oconto

The Kewaunee Storm will head to the mat one final time ahead of next weekend's WIAA Regionals with a Packerland Conference dual against Oconto Thursday night.

 

The Storm and Blue Devils sit in the middle of the conference standings after Sturgeon Bay/Sevastopol wrapped up the Packerland crown last week. Kewaunee's Mitchell Boeder pinned his way to another title last Saturday, this time coming at the Deerfield Scramble. Boeder never entered the second period in any of his matches, including his pin of Danny Ellifson (Jefferson) in the championship round. Sam Kraynik was the only other Storm wrestler to finish in the top five, taking fourth place with a win in his first and fifth matches of the day.
