The Kewaunee Storm ran through the Sturgeon Bay Clippers 56-8 Friday night for a homecoming victory as Owen Carlson rushed for over 200 yards and scored six touchdowns.

The undefeated Storm (5-0, 7-0) took a quick 14-0 lead early with Carlson scoring on an eight-yard run and a 65-yard scamper in the first five minutes.

The Clippers responded with a two-yard passing strike from quarterback Danny Lodl to wide receiver Bryce Plzak with 9:33 left in the second quarter.  After the two players connected on a two-point conversion, Sturgeon Bay closed the deficit to 14-8.

The Storm would then score five unanswered touchdowns in the quarter as Maddux Mueller fielded the ensuing kickoff at the 10-yard line and reversed field for an electrifying 90-yard touchdown return.  That gave the Storm a 21-8 lead and they never let up.

Carlson scored on another long, 67-yard run and returned a punt for a 54-yard touchdown to make it 35-8 Kewaunee, and D.J. Echols added a one-yard run before Carlson closed out the half on a seven-yard run to make it 49-8 at the intermission.

Carlson scored his sixth touchdown of the game on a six-yard run with 4:31 left in the third quarter for the final tally.

Sturgeon Bay falls to 3-2 in conference play and 4-3 overall.

Next Friday will feature a Packerland Conference championship showdown between the undefeated Southern Door Eagles and undefeated Storm.  The pregame is set for 6:45 pm on 104.1 WRLU with kick-off set for 7 p.m. from Kewaunee.  The game will also be streamed on New Radio Sports Network.  Paul Schmitt and Henry Annen will be on the call. 

The sophomore campaign for Kewaunee's Hannah Miller has been golden so far and it was proved again at Thursday's Panther Invite hosted in Reedsville.

Her personal best time of 19:01 was good enough for her fourth win of the season, running her streak of top-five finishes to seven. Christopher Cullen led the boys with a third place finish and a personal best of 16:49. Of Kewaunee's 12 runners in the varsity races, eight set personal records, and three others ran their best times of the season.

The Kewaunee soccer team's effort could not upset NEW Lutheran for a second time this season, falling to the Blazers 4-2 on their home turf.

The Storm's offense was able to score when they had the chances as the Blazers' Dylan Gustafson stopped only one of the Storm's three shots on goals. The Blazers' firepower proved to be too much for the Storm as Caden Landes registered a brace while Jack Misovec and Grayson Herlache also added goals.

Storm rumbles with Clippers on 104.1 WRLU

The Kewaunee Storm look to stay perfect as they host the Sturgeon Bay Clippers in a Friday night homecoming game.

The Storm (4-0, 6-0) are coming off a 48-6 win over the Michicot Tigers last week, while the Clippers (3-1, 4-2) won their homecoming game last week against the Oconto Blue Devils 20-6.

The Clippers are led by quarterback Danny Lodl who has thrown for over 1500 yards and 18 touchdowns this season.

Kewaunee’s Owen Carlson leads the way for the Storm with 966 rushing yards, a 9.0-yard average, and 17 touchdowns on the ground.

The Kewaunee soccer team looks to get a rare season sweep of a conference opponent on Thursday when they welcome NEW Lutheran for a 4:30 p.m.

The Storm could not hold off a staunch Sturgeon Bay attack earlier in the week, losing to the Clippers 8-0 in 63 minutes.

The Blazers continued their point streak on Monday with a 2-2 draw against Peshtigo after posting 2-1 victories over Ashwaubenon and Gibraltar/Sevastopol in their previous matches.

Earlier this season, the Storm left Green Bay with a 3-2 over the Blazers, their first against the team since 2017.

A Storm front is brewing and it is heading to Reedsville for a Thursday afternoon cross country invitational.

Kewaunee will travel to Reedsville for their meet on Thursday as they race against Valders, Brillion, Chilton, Hilbert, Kewaunee, Mishicot, Oconto Falls, Roncalli, NEWCHAA (Northeast Wisconsin Christian Homeschoolers Athletic Associaton), Denmark, Wrightstown, Manitowoc Wilson, and St. Ignatius.  The first races are expected to begin at 4 p.m.

The Kewaunee volleyball will celebrate parents' night ahead of their Tuesday night match against Sturgeon Bay.

The Storm have lost eight of their last nine matches with a 3-0 win over Gibraltar their lone victory in the rough patch. They were swept by Algoma 3-0 last week. 

The Clippers are boasting their longest winning streak of the season with three straight victories. That stretch includes last week's 3-0 sweep of NEW Lutheran.

Match time is set for 7 p.m.

The Kewaunee soccer team will get a second crack at Sturgeon Bay on Monday with a matinee match.

The Storm played Algoma to a scoreless draw last Thursday, extending their winless streak to four matches. They have not scored a goal during that stretch either.

The Clippers have yet to give up a goal in Packerland play, including their last match against Peshtigo that they won 3-0. The Storm and Clippers opened up the season against each other with Sturgeon Bay securing the 3-0 clean sheet at home.

Monday's match begins at 4:30 p.m.

Both of the top area runners in the small school races hailed from Kewaunee and finished with personal records on the day. Hannah Miller won the girls race with a time of 19:26 and Christopher Cullen finished in second place in the boys race with a 16:58 5K time.

Miller and Cullen's heroics nearly overshadow the team's success in Mishicot. For the boys, the Storm's top four runners all set personal records on the 5K course. Five of the seven competing girls also had personal bests on Thursday.

The Kewaunee football team takes its perfect record on the road Friday when they head south of the county line to Mishicot.

The Storm's offense continued to roll last week as they demolished Bonduel 42-7. The team has been averaging 37 points a game this year, compared to allowing less than seven points in conference play.

The Indians have not been able to streak in either direction, alternating between wins and losses all season. Benjamin Backus ran for 181 yards and two scores last week, but it was not enough as the Indians lost 32-20 to Oconto.

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.

The Kewaunee Storm came up empty twice on the soccer pitch on Saturday as a part of the Wrightstown tournament.

The Storm started off the day with a 3-0 loss to Wrightstown followed by a slimmer 1-0 defeat to Altoona/Fall Creek.

They try to scratch off another victory on Thursday when they face fellow Kewaunee County rival Algoma.

Gibraltar and Kewaunee head to Wrightstown to face the host school, Altoona, Green Bay N.E.W. Lutheran, New Holstein, Marinette, and Random Lake/Ozaukee in Wrightstown for a tournament beginning at 9:30 a.m.

The Vikings are coming off a disappointing 5-0 loss to Sturgeon Bay earlier in the week, a loss that dropped them to 3-4 on the year.

The Storm is 1-4 on the year, having dropped their last game to Peshtigo 3-0.

The Kewaunee volleyball team will welcome area youth teams for its match on Thursday night against Gibraltar.

The Storm has dropped their last seven matches, including a 3-2 loss to Brillion on Tuesday. Things have been somewhat positive as they forced teams into the final set thrice during the skid.

The Vikings' 2-0 win over Goodman/Pembine is the lone bright spot for their campaign. They most recently were swept by NEW Lutheran 3-0 last Thursday.

Familiar names topped the podium for the Kewaunee cross country teams at Tuesday's Crusader Invitational in Sheboygan on Tuesday.

Both Hannah Miller and Christopher Cullen set personal records in their respective 5K races. Miller came in second with a time of 19:37 with two of her teammates also hitting their best times ever. Cullen covered the 5K course in 17:05 and he also had one teammate that ran their best time in their career.

The Kewaunee Storm look to break a two-match losing streak on Tuesday when they travel to Brillion.

The Storm has dropped matches to Mishicot 3-1 and Barneveld 2-0 in consecutive outings. They had started the season winning five of their first six matches.

The Tigers are on their own skid, dropping a nailbiting 3-2 match to Kiel before losing three of its four sets across two matches at the Shawano Invite by Shawano and Oconto over the weekend.

The opening serve is set for 7 p.m. 

Only one girls runner completed the Roncalli Invitational 5K course in less than 20 minutes, and that was enough to lead Hannah Miller to victory.

Miller completed the course in 19:47 to take first place, finishing ahead of second place Hannah Welch by 26 seconds. The Storm as a team finished in 6th with 145 points.

Christopher Cullen had has own strong day for the boys' squad, covering the course in 17:31 for a third place finish.

The Kewaunee Storm cruised to a 34-6 win over the Oconto Blue Devils in Packerland Conference Football Friday night.  Owen Carlson continued his remarkable season with three more rushing touchdowns, while the Kewaunee defense kept the Blue Devils scoreless until late in the fourth quarter.

After an interception on Kewaunee’s first possession, the Storm defense stopped Oconto on downs and Carlson scored with 1:55 left in the first quarter to give Kewaunee a 7-0 lead.

Jackson Wisnicky and Maxwell Mueller intercepted Oconto quarterback Cooper Campshire in the first half and helped the Storm take a comfortable 21-0 lead into halftime.

Carlson scored on another one-yard plunge in the second quarter and D.J. Echols punched in a one-yard run with only 1:11 left in the half.

The Storm put the game away in the third quarter on a 12-yard pass from quarterback Thomas Stangel to Echols to make the score 28-0 with 3:36 left in the third quarter.

Carlson scored his third rushing TD of the game and his 13th of the season on an 11-yard scamper with 11:53 left in the fourth quarter.

With Kewaunee playing mostly second-team players, Oconto finally managed to get on the scoreboard on a nine-yard touchdown run by Ethan Wusterbarth with 3:26 left in the game for the final score.

Kewaunee (4-0) will now play home to the Bonduel Bears next Friday.

The next broadcast on 104.1 WRLU and the New Radio Sports Network will be the Algoma Wolves hosting Suring next Friday at Perry Field.  Pregame will be at 6:45 p.m. and kickoff at 7 p.m. with Paul Schmitt and Henry Annen on the call.

The Kewaunee Storm travel to Oconto Friday night to take on the Blue Devils in Packerland Conference football.

Kewaunee (3-0) routed Marinette 43-6 last week as Owen Carlson ran for 219 yards and scored five touchdowns to lead the Storm.

Oconto (2-1) is coming off a 27-0 shutout last Friday at Peshtigo and looks to slow down the Storm’s potent offense that gained 436 total yards last week.

Storm Head Coach Randy Charles says the Blue Devils always present a tough challenge for his teams, especially when they play at home.

The Kewaunee soccer team looks to snap a two-match skid when they welcome Gibraltar/Sevastopol for a 4:30 p.m. match.

The Storm have followed up a two-game winning streak with two straight losses to Cedar Grove-Belgium (3-1) and Howards Grove (5-0).

The United have been off since an August 31st match against Peshtigo. They entered that game with a two-match winning streak against non-conference opponents Winneconne and Ashwaubenon.

First kick is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.

The Kewaunee tennis team travels to Kohler for a Thursday afternoon dual meet.

The Storm's season has been slashed in recent weeks, having their last three match days canceled against Kewaskum, Ripon, and Kiel. Numbers are the likely reason for the cancellation as the Storm filled only one singles slot and its doubles teams in its earlier meets. 

Thursday's meet is expected to begin at 4 p.m.

The Kewaunee Storm volleyball team heads south on Tuesday to battle the Mishicot Indians.

The Storm have opened the season up 5-1 across two separate events. They recently went 4-1 at Hilbert Invite, beating the host school, Kohler, Brillion, and Cambria-Friesland. 

The Indians are 6-3 on the year, including two non-tournament wins against Kiel 3-2 and Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah 3-0. They split their Oconto Invite matches 2-2 and took two of the three matches played in Reedsville.

First serve is set for 7 p.m.

The Kewaunee soccer team looks to climb back into the win column when they travel to Howards Grove for a non-conference matchup.

The Storm saw their two-match winning streak come to a halt on Friday with a 3-1 defeat to Cedar Grove-Belgium. Kewaunee secured their first conference win in four years on Thursday when they beat NEW Lutheran 3-2.

The Tigers beat the same Cedar Grove-Belgium squad 5-0 in their last match before the holiday break. They are 1-0 on the season.

Kickoff is set for 4:30 p.m.

Behind a big night by running back Owen Carlson, the Kewaunee Storm routed the Marinette Marines 43-6 in Packerland Conference football Friday night.

The game started slowly before Kewaunee got on the board in the first quarter on a one-yard run by Carlson to make the score 7-0. 

Carlson would score two more touchdowns in the second quarter to give the Storm a commanding 21-0 lead.  Marinette would strike back quickly with a 76-pass from Lyric Anthony to Duncan Jackson with 1:17 left in the half.  The extra point was missed and the teams went into intermission with Kewaunee holding a 21-6 lead.

It would not take the Storm long to strike in the second half, as Carlson exploded for a dynamic 68-yard touchdown scamper on the first offensive play of the half to give Kewaunee a 28-6 lead.

Carlson would cap off his huge night with a 38-yard pass reception from quarterback Thomas Stangel on the first play of the fourth quarter to put the game away at 35-6.

Reserve Tyler Van Goethem scored Kewaunee’s final touchdown on a three-yard run with 3:45 to finish the scoring.

Kewaunee (1-0, 3-0 overall) will travel to Oconto next Friday to face the Blue Devils in conference play.  That game will be broadcast on 104.1 WRLU and streamed on New Radio Sports Network with the pregame set for 6:45 p.m. followed by the kickoff at 7 p.m. 

Several local teams participated in one of the biggest meets to kick off the season on the campus of UW-Green Bay for the De Pere Invitational with Kewaunee boast two of the best runners on the day.

Over 200 kids participated in each of the two varsity races with Kewaunee runners finishing ahead of its local competitors. Sophomore Hannah Miller broke 20 minutes for a personal record of 19:58 to take fourth overall. Senior Christopher Cullen also set a personal record on the 5K course, running a time of 17:16 for a top 20 performance.

The Kewaunee Storm won multiple games in a row for the first time since 2018 with its 3-2 victory over NEW Lutheran on Thursday afternoon.

Teagan Shaw registered the brace with two goals and Collin Spranger scored as well in the victory for the Storm. The Storm featured strong offensive play in the first half with multiple scoring opportunities that could have built the lead. Nathan Melnarik and Zach Staeven combined for the win with the latter providing the key save to secure the victory.

The Storm will stay on the pitch for Friday, but this time they will stay at home as Cedar Grove-Belgium comes to town for a 4:30 p.m. first kick. The Rockets have split their first four matches, failing to score a goal in their last two matches against Brookfield Academy and Howards Grove. They outscored their opponents 12-3 in their two win to start the season.
