Storm drops baseball opener to Denmark

The Kewaunee Storm found themselves in a 4-0 hole early and could not recover as they lost to the defending state champion Denmark Vikings 6-1 at Capital Credit Union Park Sunday.

The Storm would not find the scoreboard until the fourth inning when Mitchell Thompson doubled in Owen Carlson. The Vikings responded with two runs in the bottom half of the inning and kept the Storm off the scoreboard the rest of the way. Caleb Schaller was the losing pitcher for the Storm, surrendering all four runs in the opening innings, but recording all of the outs in the frame via the strike out. Hayden Konkol led the way for the Vikings, recording two hits and knocking in three runs.

Kewaunee baseball opens season

The Kewaunee baseball team will be the first local squad to hit the diamond this season, albeit on a neutral site.

The Storm will travel to Capital Credit Union Park in Ashwaubenon to take on Denmark in non-conference baseball action. They are coming off a 16-7 season last spring, coming in just behind Southern Door for the Packerland title. They were shocked by Gibraltar in the opening round of the WIAA Regional Tournament. The Vikings are the defending Division 2 state champions, beating Jefferson 4-1 in the title game.

First pitch is slated for 5 p.m.

Reinke wins Kjono Invite

Kewaunee's Lisa Reinke captured her team's first gold medal of the season Friday at the Pam Kjono Invite in Manitowoc.

Reinke's throw of over 35 feet won her title. The Storm had four other top-10 finishers en route to a 10th place finish out of 15 teams. Kewaunee tied for 10th place with 22 points.

Kewaunee softball opener postponed

You can blame the recent rain for delaying the start of the Kewaunee softball season.

The Storm was scheduled to face Two Rivers at Viet Nam Memorial Park Thursday afternoon. The game has been moved to almost a month from now on April 22nd.

Kewaunee's next game is scheduled for March 29th against Wrightstown on the road.

Kewaunee's Heim named All-State Honorable Mention

Despite being left off the All-Packerland Conference, Kewaunee's Ben Heim has earned another accolade.

Heim was named to the Division 3 team after he helped lead the Storm to the sectional championship game against state tournament participant Brillion. He averaged 17 points and 2.8 assists per game.

Kewaunee track round-up: Kewaunee boys just miss first place finish in Ripon

The Kewaunee boys' track team was six points away from beating Columbus in their first track meet of the season last week in Ripon.

Cameron Cullen and two relays took home gold at the meet. Eleven others finished in the top five.

Kewaunee battles Brillion in sectional semis

The Kewaunee Storm looks to continue their season on Thursday night when they travel to Chilton to face the Brillion Lions.

The Storm stunned Kiel in the regional final last Saturday when Sawyer Pribek took a pass in traffic from Ben Heim and hit a lay-up with 10 seconds left to steal the game 43-42. They also beat Sturgeon Bay and nipped Campbellsport in previous rounds of the playoffs. In the regional final, the Lions had their own drama, beating Denmark 64-63 at home after beating Oostburg previously in the playoffs.

The two teams will tip-off at 7 p.m. with a chance to play Freedom on Saturday in Two Rivers in the sectional final. The Irish beat Northland Pines 48-31 in the sectional semifinal Wednesday night in Oconto Falls.

Kewaunee nips Kiel for regional title

The Kewaunee Storm advanced to sectionals in the Division 3 Boys Basketball Tournament Saturday by the slimmest of margins, beating Kiel 43-42.

They will meet Brillion in the sectional semi-final in Chilton on Thursday. The Lions also won by the skin of their teeth, beating Denmark 64-63.

Kewaunee travels to Campbellsport for regional semifinal

The road to Madison continues for the Kewaunee Storm Friday night when they travel to Campbellsport for their Division 3 Tournament matchup.

The Storm led wire-to-wire in its 67-44 win over Sturgeon Bay on Tuesday. Leading the Storm to victory was Cameron Cullen who drilled seven three-pointers in the contest. Sawyer Pribek chipped in 12 points in the victory for the Storm. The team has now won seven of their last eight games.

Campbellsport had a bye to the regional semifinal, last playing St. Mary's Springs to a 66-53 victory on February 24th. Mitchell McCarty leads the team in both points and rebounds, averaging just over 15 ppg and 11 rpg per game. He scored 17 points and grabbed 21 rebounds in their last victory.

Tip is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Kewaunee faces familiar foe in playoff opener

Kewaunee and Sturgeon Bay have already faced each other twice this season, but none more important than Tuesday's matchup.

The Storm will host the Clippers in a first-round matchup in the WIAA Division 3 Playoffs. Sweeping their final two games against Southern Door and Sturgeon Bay, the Storm captured a share of the Packerland Conference title with Peshtigo thanks to a 13-3 mark. Two of those came against the Clippers, including last week's 64-43 where Ben Heim scored 16 points and Sawyer Pribek added 12 points.

It was nearly a different story a month before that when the Clippers pushed the Storm to the brink before falling 63-61. Four different Clippers scored in double figures in that game, led by Isaak Aune with 19 points. The Clippers have lost five in a row, last beating Sevastopol on February 4th.

The opening tip is set for 7 p.m.
