Storm fall to NEW Lutheran/Providence Academy

The Kewaunee Storm soccer team could not stop the offensive onslaught by NEW Lutheran/Providence Academy before losing 8-2.

Jose Diaz scored both goals for the Storm in the first half, but entered the second stanza down 6-2 thanks to a hat trick by the Blazers' Luke Bantamoi. It could have been even more lopsided if it wasn't for goalie Paul Rosinsky, who had 10 saves for Kewaunee in the loss.

Kewaunee football looks to rebound

After giving up 49 points to Kiel, Kewaunee hopes for a return to normalcy. The Storm didn't lose a game in the regular season in 2018 but this year has already proven to be a different animal. Kiel scored in just about every way possible. A 93 yard kickoff return, a fumble recovery, two pass plays of over 50 yards...and that was just the first half. Kiel's three second half scores were from outside the red zone too. Head Coach Randy Charles says it's important not to panic.

Kewaunee is back on the field for non-conference action Friday at Manawa. Manawa won its opening contest but scored a pedestrian seven points in doing so. That's closer to normal, just what the Storm are seeking.

Kewaunee soccer drops opening game

Kewaunee struggled in their opening game of the season on Tuesday. The Storm traveled to Roncalli to face Roncalli/Two Rivers and lost 8-0. Kewaunee will play at Green Bay NEW Lutheran on Thursday with a 4:30 PM kickoff.

Kiel keeps Kewaunee off-balance in opener

Going into Week One, Kewaunee Storm head coach Randy Charles was concerned about the matchup in the trenches. It turns out, Kewaunee was done in by special teams and big plays. The Storm fell 49-21.

Kiel boasted a strong defense in 2018 and is anchored by two defensive ends who are set for a special year in 2019. Kewaunee's 21-point first half had to have been a best-case scenario for the Storm, and yet, they still trailed after 24 minutes.

The Raiders hit on a 67-yard pass play, returned a fumble, and a kickoff for their first three scores en route to 28 points of their own by the half. Three more touchdowns of over 20 yards in the third quarter gave Kiel a decisive victory to open 2019.

Kewaunee gets Manawa in Week Two. They won a rather different affair Friday night, beating Markesan 7-0.

Kewaunee Storm face stern test in opener

Kewaunee rattled off 11 straight wins to open 2018 and, this year, they return a bevy of skill players including running back Owen Kudick and QB Ryan Carmichael. Coach Randy Charles is in a pretty good position but nerves exist before every season opener. The Storm open up at home against Kiel :: KEEL::, a 2018 playoff team that returns a lot out of the powerful Eastern Wisconsin Conference. Kiel's defensive ends are the strength of the unit going up against an untested Kewaunee offensive line. That matchup is Charles' greatest area of concern:

Kiel favors the run offensively. Combining a clock-eating rushing offense with a great defense could threaten to limit the opportunities for Carmichael and Kudick to work their magic. Kewaunee is a playoff-tested program with a rich tradition. Pedigree says they'll be ready. The top-notch non-conference matchup kicks off Friday night.

Kewaunee prepared for tennis opener

The peninsula's only tennis team is ready for its 2019 campaign.

The Kewaunee Storm will play at home this afternoon against Ripon beginning at 4 p.m. It marks the first of eleven matches this season, including the first of two matches this week at home.

Kewaunee's defense hopes to be up to the challenge

Kewaunee's defense will look to match their results from last season and other great years in their history. The Storm shut out two opponents last year and didn't allow more than 22 points in any regular season game. In their state championship season of 2010, they didn't allow more than 21 points in any game and shut out five opponents including four in a row in the middle of the season. That team's defense was led by Jordan Schmidt who picked off 12 passes including one for a touchdown. Clayton Paral was the other Storm player that season to return an interception for a touchdown. Kewaunee begins the 2019 season on Friday when they host Kiel.

Clayton Peral was the answer to Friday's trivia question.
