Kewaunee easily handles Sturgeon Bay in softball

Kewaunee started off the game hot and never looked back on the road in Sturgeon Bay. The Storm put up 8 runs in the top of the first and cruised to a 12-1 victory in five innings. Elizabeth Rohr reached base and all four of her plate appearances. Claire Kohnle pitched the whole game to pick up the win.

Kewaunee will try to stay on Monday when they host Reedsville at 4:30 PM.

Kewaunee edges Sturgeon Bay thanks to big 2nd inning

Kewaunee scored 5 runs in the 2nd inning and knocked off Sturgeon Bay 6-5 on the road Friday night. The Storm added a much-needed insurance run in the top of the seventh as Sturgeon Bay also scored a run to get within one in the seventh. But that was all the Clippers could muster and Kewaunee held on for the victory.

Wyatt Kruse had 3 RBI's for Kewaunee. He also pitched the last three innings of the game. Sturgeon Bay got three hits from Max Bordeau. Jake Schneider started on the mound for the Clippers.

Kewaunee will travel to Roncalli for a non-conference game on Monday with the first pitch at 4:30 PM.

The answer to Friday's trivia question was Ethan Schleis. He led Kewaunee in RBI's in 2015 when the Storm won a conference championship and a school-record 17 games. Schleis had 26 that season.

Kewaunee boys 3rd, girls 5th in Oconto Falls track meet

Both Kewaunee track teams placed in the top five in the 14-team Oconto Falls Track Invitational Thursday night.

The boys took third place over all thanks to championship-caliber performances by shot put thrower Tanor Bortolini, 800-meter runner Max Hanrahan, and the 4 x 400-meter relay team. The girls fifth-place finish was led by all four of its relay teams placing in the top three, including its event title in the 4 x 400 meter.

Brann, Rohr powers Kewaunee past Peshtigo

Taylor Schleis, Cierra Brann,  and Elizabeth Rohr did the heavy lifting for Kewaunee as they beat Peshtigo 9-3 in Packerland softball action. Schleis was 3-for-3 at the plate while Brann and Rohr drove in a combined seven of the team's nine runs. It turned out to be efficient night for the offense as they were able to score their nine runs on just six hits. Hailey Gaedtke took the win for the Storm, allowing three runs over five innings.

Kewaunee's track and field teams dominate at Peshtigo

Kewaunee loses thriller to Bonduel

Kewaunee and Bonduel played a thrilling extra-inning game on Tuesday. The Storm went on the road in the non-conference matchup and couldn't quite pull out a victory. Kewaunee led the game going to the bottom of the seventh inning but a bases-loaded walk tied the game. The lead was Kewaunee's again in the top of the eighth and took a 9-8 lead going to the bottom of the inning. Bonduel started their half of the inning with three straight singles, then a walk and finally an infield hit by Noah Beilfuss drove home the winning run off of Daniel Stangel.

Stangel was the hitting star of the game for Kewaunee racking up three hits. McCoy Walechka and Cain Hall each had two hits.

Kewaunee gets back into conference play on Thursday when they host Peshtigo at 5 PM.

Kruse, Storm come up short against Gibraltar

Wyatt Kruse pitched great, but Gibraltar's Trevor Reinhardt just pitched a little bit better in Kewaunee's 3-1 loss Monday.

Both pitchers went for complete games while scattering seven hits and striking out six. It was Reinhardt's two RBI hit that provided the final difference in the game. Daniel Stangel provided the offense for the Storm, driving in its lone run. Cain Hill added two hits of his own in the loss.

After playing in Fish Creek Monday, the Storm find themselves back on the road Tuesday with a game in Bonduel.

Kewaunee track and field off to a great start

The boys and girls Kewaunee track and field teams have started the 2019 season very well. The team has been picking victories early on and could be on their way to a conference championship. No one, at least not yet, has broken the record for being the fastest to ever run at Kewaunee. That record belongs to Robert Kuehl who ran the 100 Meter Dash in 10.9 seconds back in 1999. Robert Kuehl was the answer to Friday's trivia question.

High School Sports Trivia Contest Question of the day - 4-19-19

Kewaunee boys track win Packerland Relays

The Kewaunee boys track team won the Packerland Relays meet Thursday in Oconto behind six first place performances. You can see Coach Joe Kassner's recap below with more results coming out later today.

Wild pitches doom Storm baseball in loss

Kewaunee's Danny Stengel would only want two pitches back in their 3-2 loss to Southern Door in Thursday baseball action. Stengel went 6 2/3 innings, striking out eight and walking four. Two out of the three runs scored by the Eagles, however, scored on wild pitches. One occurred after the Storm scored two unearned runs in the top half of the fifth and the other proved to be the game-winner for the Eagles as Devin Schinkten crossed the plate. Wyatt Kruse registered two hits for the Storm in the defeat.

Storm softball left with no answers against Eagles

Kewaunee Storm softball players were left flummoxed about what to do with Southern Door's Lexi Wery and Grace LeGrave. The two Eagles combined for seven innings of three-run baseball while combining for a pair of RBI and four hits in the 8-3 loss for the Storm.

Cierra Brann and Claire Kohnle provided the offense for the Storm, each getting two hits, with Kohnle also getting an RBI. Hailey Gaedtke took the loss on the mound for the storm.

Kewaunee dominates as hosts in track and field

In a conference event that they hosted, Kewaunee dominated and won in both girls and boys. The boys picked up 136 points and the girls got 119.

The two big stars for the boys were Max Hanrahan and Tannor Bortolini. Hanrahan won the 400M run (56.060a) and came in second in the 800M (2:07.479a). Bortolini won the Shotput (44'11.00) and Discus (126'05.00) events. Kewaunee's relay teams won the 4x100 (48.295a), 4x200 (1:39.167a) and 4x400 (3:42.319a).

The Kewaunee girls dominated the running events. Lizzy O'Dill won the 100M (13.781a), Kaaryn Smidel (2:44.553a) and Elena Lewis (2:46.764a) finished 1-2 in the 800M. Elizabeth Lamack won both the 1600M (6:00.540a) and 3200M (13:29.133a). The Relay Team won the 4x400 (4:41.409a). Sara Dax finished first in the Shot Put (34'01.00) and second in the Discus (92'07.00).

Kewaunee baseball wins in rivalry game

Kewaunee knocked off Algoma 10-0 in six innings on Tuesday. Wyatt Kruse didn't allow a hit and pitched all six innings for the Storm. Kruse also had 2 hits and 4 RBI's at the plate. Dan Stangel scored 3 runs and Cain Hall drove in two.

Storm softball tops Vikings

The Kewaunee Storm scored a big home win in Packerland Conference action Monday evening, defeating Gibraltar 8-5. The Storm's Claire Kohnle did it all as she pitched a complete game and went 3-4 at the plate. Elizabeth Rohr had a good day at the plate as well for the Storm, going a perfect 4-4. The Storm will have a shorter road trip Tuesday when they travel to face county rival Algoma.

Morgan Boltz great day at the plate

Morgan Boltz's great day at the plate for Kewaunee in 2000 is helping him win free meals 19 years later. Boltz is the winner in Friday's high school sports trivia contest question of the day. The question was, "Morgan Boltz broke the Kewaunee baseball school record for RBI's in a single game in 2000. How many did he have in that game?" Morgan answered 7 which is the correct answer. He is the winner of a $25 certificate to The Grove. Congrats Morgan!

Maddy Spranger makes 13 saves in Storm loss

Kewaunee goalkeeper Maddy Spranger did all she could to stop the Denmark offensive attack on Tuesday. She made 13 saves for the Storm in their 8-0 loss to the Irish. Kewaunee will host Green Bay East on Thursday at 4:30 PM.

Stangel gets two hits in Storm loss

The Kewaunee Storm was unable to get the .500 mark Monday, losing 7-3 to Oconto. Daniel Stangel led the way for the Storm offensively, collecting a pair of hits. Bennett Frazer, Andrew Ramage, and Trevor Bowman created most of the offense for the Blue Devils, driving in five of their seven runs. Time will tell when the Storm plays next with snow potentially hitting the area on Thursday.

Sorweide, Blue Devils blow past Storm

Oconto's Maggie Sohrweide was a one-girl wrecking crew as the Kewaunee Storm lost to the Blue Devils 13-3 in Packerland softball action.

Sorweide drove in five runs on three hits including a home run in the Blue Devils victory. Mykenzi Uhlers provided much of the offense for Kewaunee, going 2-for-2 with a RBI.  Uhlers also got help on offense from Alaina Ledvina and Taylor Schlies who also added single tallies for the Storm in the defeat.

Storm look to get above .500 on baseball season

The Kewaunee Storm baseball team hopes they can even their record when they head to Oconto this afternoon.

After beginning the season 0-2, the Storm got into the win column last week in a big way with a 11-1 victory over Peshtigo. The boost of confidence comes at a good time for the Storm, which faces four teams over the next week in similar straits with records below .500.

First pitch from Oconto is 5 p.m.

Kewaunee track and field trying to repeat success of mid 2010's

Both the Kewaunee boys and girls track and field teams are off to strong starts in the 2019 season. If they can repeat their success from the 2014 and 2015 seasons that would be a great feat for the school. In those years both the boys and girls track and field teams won conference championships. The boys team won three straight between 2013 and 2015. The Storm girls took home four straight starting in 2014 and ending in 2017.

Friday's trivia question asked how many times this decade had both the boys and girls track and field teams won conference titles in the same season. The answer was twice, in 2014 and 2015.
