Kewaunee's softball run ends at semis

In the rubber match with Peshtigo, the Kewaunee Storm were downed 8-5, signaling the end of their pursuit of the state tournament. It was a season to remember for Kewaunee, who captured the Packerland conference title. Their season included a 10-9 victory over Peshtigo earlier in the season, as the teams exchanged one point wins over each other this year. The Storm final record is 15-8. Their run includes two postseason wins.

Kewaunee punches sectional softball ticket over Eagles

After Wednesday’s win over Southern Door, Kewaunee has now beat the Eagles twice by a combined three runs this season. In their WIAA Regional final, the Storm beat the Eagles by a 6-4 final score. It is the Storm’s second win over a Packerland Conference foe in the WIAA Regional Tournament, and they’ll go for their third straight on Monday. Kewaunee is scheduled to begin next week taking on Peshtigo. The two teams split a pair of one-run victories in the regular season. Kewaunee took the May 21st matchup 10-9, and Peshtigo answered back by winning 2-1 on June 4th. Kewaunee is the higher seed, and will host Monday’s game. The winner of Monday’s game will play the winner of the game between Wittenberg-Birnamwood and Amherst on Wednesday for the section title.

Kewaunee softball's fast start too much for Clippers

Seven first-inning runs told the story in Monday’s playoff win for Kewaunee who beat Sturgeon Bay. The Clippers’ season ended as Monday was their third time being defeated by the Storm. Due to the ten-run rule, the game concluded in five innings. Kewaunee’s quest for a championship continues, as they’ll host Southern Door on Wednesday. The Storm beat the Eagles 8-7 on May 11t.

Kewaunee softball hosts Packerland rival for playoff opener

The Kewaunee Storm softball team will kick off their road to state against a familiar foe at home Monday.

The Packerland Conference champs will meet fellow league foe Sturgeon Bay for the WIAA opener. The Storm only lost twice to Packerland opponents this season, including 13-2 and 7-0 wins over the Clippers last month.

Powered by Eileen Laughlin and Jaiden Adams, the Clippers secured wins in its last two games against Gibraltar and Gillett/Suring.

First pitch is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.

Storm end Algoma baseball season

Kewaunee will get their second straight Packerland opponent in the WIAA playoffs after their Thursday win over the Algoma Wolves in five innings, 15-3. With the loss, Algoma’s baseball season comes to an end. Kewaunee hosts Gibraltar in the second round of the playoffs. That game will begin on June 15th. Kewaunee is 1-1 against the Vikings overall. They won the conference matchup 14-1 and lost the non-conference game 12-1.

Algoma looks to upset Kewaunee in shoreline baseball battle

The Wolves will have their sights set high for their first win on Thursday. They travel to Kewaunee, who finished second in the Packerland Conference in the regular season. It will be each team’s first playoff game of the season. The last scheduled game between the teams was cancelled, but their May 8th battle resulted in a 14-0 win for the Storm. First pitch in Kewaunee on Thursday is scheduled for 4:30 PM.

Baseball: Storm continue hot streak heading into postseason

As the Kewaunee Storm try to build momentum for the WIAA playoffs, the Storm appear to be successful as they got their eighth win in nine games, defeating Two Rivers 10-0 on Monday. Kewaunee scored four runs in the bottom of the third inning and five in the bottom of the fifth. They added one more in the sixth. The Storm ended the season with a 15-6 overall record. They also finished second overall in the Packerland regular season standings. The next time the Storm take the field it will be in WIAA playoff play against Algoma, who is winless this season. Kewaunee defeated Algoma 14-0 in the regular season. The first pitch for the postseason matchup is Thursday at 5:00 P.M.

Kewaunee boys take conference track title

The Cullen family was a two-man wrecking crew as the Kewaunee boys team captured the Packerland Conference title Monday in Peshtigo.

Cameron Cullen won the 800m, 1600m, and 3200m races and brother Christopher took 3rd in the 400m and was part of the first place 4x400m relay. Isaac Schlies won both hurdles events.

The Storm girls finished less than three points behind first place Sevastopol in their battle for the Packerland crown. Event winners include Lizzy O'Dill in the 100m, and the 4x400m and 4x800m relays.

Baseball: Kewaunee takes non-conference win

Kewaunee has back to back non-conference games in the finishing portion of their season, and they won the first of the two on Saturday. They got to ten runs, beating Roncalli by a final score of 10-6. They will face Two Rivers on Monday. The first round of the postseason is already set for the Storm, as they’ll take on Algoma on Thursday for the WIAA Regional. The Storm have an overall record of 14-6 after Saturday’s victory.

Kewaunee's Rabas makes last play call

Former Kewaunee coach Don Rabas went on the field named in his honor earlier this week one final time.

Rabas passed away on May 28th at the age of 85. According to his obituary, Rabas coached football at Kewaunee for 30 years following a playing career at Northwestern University. He recorded 191 wins, 88 lost, 1 tie, 10 Conference Championships, 11 Second Place finishes, and only 4 losing seasons. From 1968-1971 he posted 28 wins in a row and didn’t give up a single point in 68 straight quarters of play.  He also started the track program in Kewaunee in 1963 and remained the head coach until 1975.  During Don’s thirteen years as head track coach, Kewaunee won four Conference Championships, six Regional titles and one Sectional Title. Five of those seasons his teams did not compete on a track.

A ceremony honoring Rabas with the field dedication did not take place due to the pandemic and the Storm did not play a home game during the 2021 spring season. During his funeral procession, his hearse was driven onto the field where it went through a tunnel of Ms. Rabas' 6th grade students, the track team and football players.

Kewaunee boys' track wins Wildcat Classic

The Kewaunee boys' track added another piece of hardware to the trophy case after winning the Wildcat Classic at Green Bay West on Wednesday.

The Storm boys scored 165 points thanks to Cameron Cullen winning the 1600m and 3200m, Isaac Schlies topping the podium in the 110m hurdles, Jordan Lamack winning the high jump, and relay wins in the 4x400m and 4x800m relays.

The girls took third behind Bonduel and Sevastopol. Event winners included Lisa Reinke in the shot put.

Kewaunee took down Gibraltar quickly on Tuesday to remain undefeated against Packerland Conference opponents. The game ended after four innings, with the Storm on top, 15-0. With the loss, Gibraltar falls to 2-6 on the season. The Vikings finish their regular season, hosting Oconto on Friday. Kewaunee, who is 9-0 on the season, gets to visit Southern Door on Thursday. Baseball: Kewaunee looks to retain streak against Gibraltar

Kewaunee, who has won four straight conference games and seven straight games overall, will try to stay heated up on Tuesday against the Gibraltar Vikings. Gibraltar is coming off a close defeat over a week ago in Peshtigo, where they lost 2-1. Kewaunee routed Gibraltar the last time the two teams played, by a 14-1 final score. The game on Tuesday is scheduled to begin in Kewaunee at 5:00 PM.

Softball: Vikings look to knock off Storm

Gibraltar was on fire until their loss last Monday in Peshtigo, and they’ll try to regain the momentum when they visit Kewaunee on Tuesday. The Storm have yet to lose a conference battle and beat Gibraltar 9-0 when the teams first battled on May 13th. Kewaunee is riding a three game winning streak, most recently downing Bonduel in a non-conference game, 11-1. Gibraltar lost 10-0 their last time out, but had won a pair of conference games and non-conference games, scoring double-digits in three of the four wins. The First pitch for Tuesday’s game between the Storm and Vikings is scheduled for 5:00 PM in Kewaunee.

Girls soccer: Kewaunee trying to get offense going against Denmark

On Tuesday, Kewaunee will return from the weekend to host Denmark, who is coming off their first loss in seven games. The Vikings lost to Kiel on Friday by a final score of 4-1. Kewaunee is hoping to turn around from a rough last week. They were unable to net goals against New Holstein and Sevastopol/Gibraltar. The start time for the Storm and Vikings game is scheduled for 4:30 PM in Kewaunee.
