The Kewaunee boys' basketball will not be able to defend their Division 3 Regional Championship this upcoming season.

The Storm has been placed in Division 4 for the upcoming season, joining the likes of Algoma, Bonduel, Coleman, Crandon, Crivitz, Manawa, Menominee Indian, Mishicot, Oconto, St. Mary Catholic, and Shiocton. Division 4 consists of 100 schools with an enrollment between 189 and 318. 

All other schools in Door and Kewaunee counties will stay in their current divisions.

Last week, the WIAA Advisory Council voted down changes that would have altered enrollment cutoffs for each of the five divisions.

Kewaunee's first baseball regional title since the 1970s yielded three All-District Players.

Payton Kohnle was named to the All-Northeast District team as an infielder. Cal Ihlenfeldt and Mitchell Thompson earned honorable mention honors.

The WBCA’s North East District, which includes the Big East, Eastern Wisconsin, Fox Valley Association, Fox River Classic, Northeastern, Packerland Conferences. For a player to be chosen, he must be nominated by his head coach, who must be a member of the Wisconsin Baseball Coaches Association. 

Kewaunee athletes garnered 11 All-Packerland selections when the teams were announced last week.

The baseball team had the most athletes selected to the All-Conference teams after making a run to sectionals. Their season ended on Tuesday in a 5-1 defeat to eventual sectional champion Amherst.

The Kewaunee baseball team will move onto next week's sectionals after a resounding 12-2 win over Brillion Wednesday afternoon.

An eight-run second inning was all the Storm needed to get past the Lions. Cal Ihlenfeldt starred at the plate and on the mound, going 3-for-3 with a double, a four RBIs while going all five innings. Mitchell Thompson also went deep for one of his two hits.

The Storm will now travel to Crivitz for a 1:30 p.m. matchup against Amherst.
