The Kewaunee football team is preparing for its football season knowing full well it will not play in front of its home fans this season.

After having its fall season derailed because of COVID-19, the athletics department was forced to move all of its fall sports to the alternative spring season, which will begin practices in earnest next week. The desire to preserve its field also forced athletic director Brian Rabas to schedule all road games at fields with turf surfaces. An April 9th game against Notre Dame Academy is the only game within an hour's drive and the majority of contests are pushing two-hour road trips. Head coach Randy Charles says this unique season is all about giving the kids a chance.

The Storm will open the season against Black River Falls in their first of two games at Amherst High School on March 27th. The rest of the schedule and our interview with head coach Randy Charles can be found at NEWRadioSportsNetwork.com.

State champion wrestler Jack Severin highlights a class of 12 Kewaunee athletes named to their respective All-Packerland Conference teams on Monday.

Severin's second straight state championship and undefeated season earned him wrestler of the year honors. Other wrestlers named to the squad include Logan Steinhorst at 160 pounds and Matt Wery at 113.

For girls' basketball Claire Kohnle was named to the first team, Mykenzi Uhlers was placed on the second team, and Toni Bortolini, Cierra Brann, and Taylor Schleis earned honorable mention honors. 

On the boys' basketball team, Ben Heim garnered first-team accolades, Alex Rohr made the second team, and Anthony Jerabek and Sawyer Pribek collected honorable mentions. 

The Kewaunee Storm will head out of town for their WIAA regional semifinal game against Brillion.

The Storm led throughout during its 68-58 win over Chilton on Tuesday. Alex Rohr hit five three-pointers en route to a 24 point evening for the Storm with Cameron Cullen and Ben Heim also registering double scoring nights. The Storm also won the battle at the line, going 18-24 from the stripe compared to just 2-13 for the Tigers.

Standing in their way are the Lions, who actually beat Chilton as well in their last game 68-51. Jeremy Lorenz scored 17 and Hunter Krepline added 15 when the Lions beat the Storm earlier this season 55-48. 

Friday's game tips off at 7 p.m.

Kewaunee's Jack Severin won his second straight state championship at last weekend's WIAA Division 3 State Wrestling Tournament in Wausau, but it was not quite like his first.

For starters, the expansive Kohl Center was replaced with three separate sites for the different wrestling divisions, which included the high school gym at Wausau West for Division 3. COVID-19 protocols also limited how many people could come to watch and support Severin and his teammate Mitchell Thompson. Despite those changes, Severin says no extra motivation was needed.

Severin was undefeated during the wrestling season, but admits one of his toughest opponents was the refrigerator because of all the time spent at home because of remote learning.

In the end, Severin was just happy to have a season.

Severin will graduate this year before heading off to the University of Wisconsin-Madison to study accounting and wrestle. You can watch the full interview below.

The start to a hopefully long playoff run for the Kewaunee Storm boys' basketball team begins on Tuesday night with a matchup against Chilton.

The Storm has won their last six games, including avenging its loss to Southern Door that snapped a previously-held five-game winning streak. Alex Rohr averages just over 16 points per game while Ben Heim chips about 15 points per game. The Tigers lost its last game to Brillion 68-51 in what has been a back and forth season. Since 2021 began, the Tigers are 5-7 and are 7-12 overall on the season.

Jack Severin won his second straight state championship and Mitchell Thompson brought home hardware as well from their trip to Wausau West on Saturday.

Wrestling at 132 pounds, Severin earned his title with an opening round pin and finished the day off with a pair of regular decisions. Severin finished his career with an undefeated season and his second state championship before he heads to Wisconsin to wrestle. 

At 170 pounds, Thompson went 2-2 on the day, ending it with a fourth place finish. He collected a pin and a regular decision to finish his season 19-4.

The Kewaunee Storm will head into the WIAA Playoffs on a winning streak after toppling NEW Lutheran Thursday night 77-68.

It was not easy for the Storm, which only lost twice in the Packerland Conference all season long. They led by only one at the break but outscored the Blazers 47-39 in the second half to secure the victory. Alex Rohr hit six three-pointers on the night on his way to tying teammate Ben Heim's 25 points on the night. Cameron Cullen registered 11 points in the victory. Marshal Bukowski paced the Blazers with 23 points and Lucas Dhein and Elijah Meerstein scored 11 on the night.

The Kewaunee Storm looks to build off their impressive start in the WIAA Playoffs while continuing their tiger hunt with a game at Wrightstown on Friday night.

The Storm demolished Chilton 80-37 Tuesday night thanks to a 50 point first half. Four Storm players reached double figures on the evening, led by 25 points from Claire Kohnle. The Storm's two losses came in non-conference action by a grand total of three points.

The Tigers finished their season 15-3 and second place in the NEC. They beat Oconto Falls 57-39 in their last action last Saturday. Leah Lemke leads Wrightstown with 20 points and five assists an outing.

The Kewaunee Storm will end their regular season campaign with a trip to Green Bay to face NEW Lutheran. 

The Kewaunee Storm held on for a 63-51 victory over the Sturgeon Bay Clippers in a Packerland Conference action Tuesday night in Sturgeon Bay. Ben Heim and Alex Rohr each scored 14 points while two others reach double figures. Led by 19 points from Tristan Lynch, the Blazers beat Gibraltar 69-60 on Monday night to even their Packerland mark at 7-7.

The Kewaunee Storm held on for a 63-51 victory over the Sturgeon Bay Clippers in a Packerland Conference action Tuesday night in Sturgeon Bay.  The Storm, winners of four straight, are now are 14-5 overall and 13-2 in the Packerland. Sturgeon Bay falls to 8-8 overall and 7-8 in the conference.  Kewaunee will now travel to Green Bay on Thursday in a regular-season finale against NEW Lutheran and host Chilton in the first round of the WIAA playoffs next Tuesday.  The Clippers will play at Sevastopol before getting ready for tournament play next week against the conference-leading Southern Door Eagles.   

A perfect conference season is a distant memory as the Kewaunee Storm prepare to battle the Chilton Tigers in the first round of the WIAA Girls' Basketball Division 3 playoffs.

The Storm left no doubt their unblemished Packerland slate would stand after beating Gibraltar 73-40 on Saturday afternoon.  Taylor Schleis scored 18 points while Claire Kohnle and Mykenzi Uhlers each reached double figures as well. 

The Tigers' only win comes from a forfeit by the region's top seed Brillion. The team has struggled to score this season with seven games under 30 points and two games under 20. Olivia Hoerl leads the Tigers in scoring (16.2 ppg), rebounding (6.1 rpg), and assists (2.3 apg).

The playoff game tips off at 6:15 p.m.

With no higher seed or conference championship to chase, the Kewaunee Storm are playing for a 15-win conference season when they play at Sturgeon Bay on Tuesday night. 

The Storm's Alex Rohr was on fire from behind the arc in the Storm's 87-55 win over Gibraltar in the team's last game. Rohr scored 26 points in the contest to give his 16.4 ppg average a boost. 

The Clippers come into the game after a slim 41-38 win over Peshtigo on Monday night. Anthony Jennerjohn and Jack Schmelzer each average close to 12 points a game.

The Kewaunee Storm girls' basketball finished off their perfect Packerland season with a 73-40 win over the Gibraltar Vikings on Saturday afternoon.

The Storm hit four three-pointers in the first half and got contributions from seven different players to jump out to a 40-18  lead. Taylor Schleis finished the game with 18 points while Claire Kohnle scored 16 points and Mykenzi Uhlers chipped in with 12 points of her own.

The Vikings are still looking to find their groove after their two-week quarantine against two of the conference's best teams in its first three games back. Karlee Kita scored 13 points in her final game in Fish Creek and Maggie Moroney added 11 points. 

Two members of the Kewaunee wrestling team will move on to the state wrestling meet in Wausau next weekend.

Jack Severin won his bracket at 132 pounds with a pair of pins and a decision in the championship match. He looks to become a two-time state champion and keep his perfect record intact.

Mitchell Thompson also won his weight class at 170 pounds. He won his first match by major decision before finishing out his day with two straight pins.

The Kewaunee Storm boys' basketball team used an 18-2 run at the end of the first half to cruise to an 87-55 victory over the Gibraltar Vikings on Friday night.

The game went back and forth early on with the Storm's Alex Rohr and the Vikings' Sam Lindenberg trading shots back and forth. The Vikings were clinging onto a 29-27 lead when the Storm went on their decisive run.  The Storm was able to expand on that lead thanks to hot shooting from Cameron Cullen and a tough defense to penetrate for Gibraltar. Alex Rohr led all Storm players with 26 points while Cullen (13) and Ben  Heim (11) reached double figures. Sam Lindenberg and Spencer Krause led the Vikings with 18 and 15 points respectively.

The Storm finishes their conference slate next week with road games at Sturgeon Bay Tuesday and NEW Lutheran Thursday.

THIS GAME HAS BEEN POSTPONED DUE TO WEATHER

The Kewaunee Storm looking to put the icing on their Packerland Conference title with a win against NEW Lutheran on Thursday night.

Undefeated in the Packerland Conference, the Storm have not lost a game since a 45-44 loss to Valders on December 22nd. Part of the reason is their balanced scoring attack of Claire Kohnle (13.82ppg), Mykenzi Uhlers (11.93 ppg), and Toni Bortolini (9.9 ppg). All three have taken turns leading the Storm in scoring. The Storm last won on Tuesday against Sturgeon Bay 58-28.

The Blazers are 9-5 in Packerland play, including a 59-42 victory over Gibraltar on Tuesday. Josie Nelson and Bailey Scholz each average just over 12 points a game for the Blazers, which are 10-2 since the calendar turned to 2021.
