Miller, Bousley run well in state debut

Southern Door's Emma Bousley and Kewaunee's Hannah Miller made strong efforts in the first-ever race at the WIAA State Meet in Wisconsin Rapids.

Miller was the top local finisher with a time of 21:06 on the 5K course at Ridges Golf Course, which was good for 49th place overall. Bousley was not far behind her Packerland rival, covering the route in 21:19 for a 54th-place finish.

Miller readies for state run

Kewaunee freshman Hannah Miller will toe the line at her biggest stage yet on Saturday when she competes in the WIAA State Cross Country meet in Wisconsin Rapids.

Miller earned her spot as one of the top five runners not competing as a qualified team member. Miller finished in fifth place at the Manitowoc Lutheran sectional with a time of 20:42, her fifth time breaking 21 minutes this season.

Miller and fellow Packerland competitor Emma Bousley of Southern Door will both line up in Corral 10 at the Division 3 Girls State Meet Race, which begins at noon on Saturday.

Storms advances past Raiders on U-1021

The Kewaunee football team stormed out to a 24-0 lead and did not look back in its 27-13 triumph over Kiel Friday night.

After Maddix Mueller got the Storm on the scoreboard with a mid-range field goal on their opening drive, the two teams traded scoreless possession until the opening minutes of the second quarter when Tyler VanGoethem scored the first touchdown to make it 10-0. After forcing the Raiders to punt, the Storm took advantage of a short field to make it 17-0 on a short rush by Jesse Morales-Hernandez.

The Storm evened things up in the interception department when Brayden Obry caught a tipped pass from Raiders quarterback Connor Faust. A few plays later, quarterback Mitchell Thompson was able to tack on another touchdown with a back-shoulder throw to Caleb Schaller to make it 24-0 at halftime.

The Raiders' defense stiffened up after the break and their offense was able to sustain drives. They still would not score points until their first drive of the fourth quarter when Faust connected with Charles Freis with their first of two long touchdown passes. A Mueller field goal midway through the fourth quarter was all the Storm was able to register in the second half.

The Storm improved to 10-1 on the season, earning their second win against Kiel on the season. They will now travel to get their first win in two tries in Brussels when they travel to face Southern Door next Friday night. The Eagles exploded for points in the second quarter en route to a 34-7 victory over Chilton. The Storm lost their first meeting against the Eagles in Brussels earlier this season 19-4. The rematch will be broadcast on U-1021 and NEWRadioSportsNetwork.com.

Storm gets a visit from Kiel on U102.1

The Kewaunee Storm will play host to their week one opponent again as the Kiel Raiders come to town in a regional semifinal matchup in the WIAA playoffs.

The Storm is coming off a beat down of the Sturgeon Bay Clippers last Friday in the first round, as they beat their conference foe 71-6. Most of the damage that Kewaunee made came on the ground, as the Storm ran for 429 yards and six touchdowns, with five different runners finding the endzone. Owen Carlson joined in on the fun as well, as he returned a punt into the endzone for a touchdown after having one called back earlier in the game. Kewaunee will look to stay on the right side of production against Kiel, as they have had a stellar season.

Kiel was a team that gave the Storm some troubles, however, as the Raiders battled with the Storm in week one, falling 28-21 in that game. Kiel is coming off of an upset in round one, as they took down Wittenberg Birnamwood 16-6 in a 3 versus 6 seed matchup. The Raiders got a good game from their Quarterback Connor Faust in that one, as he threw for a touchdown, but also ran the ball 24 times and was able to get in on the ground as well. Their defense works well for them, however, as they held a high-powered Chargers offense to those six points.

Gary Barta and Tim Kowols will have the call from Don Rabas Field on U102.1 and NEWRadioSportsNetwork.com. The pregame show will begin at 6:45 with kickoff from Kewaunee set for 7:00.

Kewaunee cross country travels to Sectionals in Manitowoc

Kewaunee has had a strong performance from their cross country team all season, and will look to have that repeated as they head to Manitowoc Lutheran to run on Saturday in the WIAA sectionals.

Christopher Cullen has been leading the pack when it comes to the Storm’s boys team this season. Setting a personal record this season of 17:34 has been the way of Cullen this season. Not only is Cullen having a great season, four other of his teammates have clocked in personal record times of under 20 minutes this season. Those runners are, James Joski, Alejandro Martin, Christian Hall, and Lucas Martin.

The girls team finished fourth this season, behind the strong year of Hannah Miller. Miller clocked in her Personal Record on September 29th at the Panther Invite. She recorded a time of 20:21, which was good for fourth place.

Both teams have had their fair share of success, and hopefully for the Storm, the Sectionals will be no different.

The Storm went 1-14-0 on the season with their only victory coming against Washington Island. St. Lawrence Seminary will play Sturgeon Bay in a second round matchup on Thursday.

Storm finish second, highest local finisher in Packerland Boys Cross Country season

Cross Country in the Packerland has wrapped up, as sectionals begin this weekend. The results are in, and the Peshtigo Bulldogs have taken the crown in the Boys Cross Country standings.

The local teams in the area that scored points this season fared well also, as Kewaunee and Southern Door were the two schools that had enough runners to score as a team this season.

Kewaunee was led by Christopher Cullen this season, as he had multiple PRs this season, leading the Storm to a 2nd place finish in the Packerland.

Southern Door was led by Ben Grota, who made improvements from last season to lead the Eagles to a fourth place finish.

Both teams will be at Manitowoc Lutheran for their sectional.

The Flying Dutchmen finished their 16-7 season with a 2-1 mark at the Big East Conference Tournament. After losing to Howards Grove in straight sets, they repaid the favor to Reedsville and St. Mary Catholic.

Kewaunee soccer looks to extend season

The Kewaunee soccer team hopes their season has not met its end on Tuesday when it travels to face St. Lawrence Seminary.

The Storm picked up its only win of the season on October 3rd when they beat Washington Island 3-0. They have otherwise gone 0-13, averaging less than a goal a game and have been shut out seven times.

St. Lawrence Seminary is paying for the sins of a five-match losing streak in the middle of the season. They split their two matches the final week of the season, beating Lourdes/Valley Christian 4-2 and losing to Central Wisconsin Christian 1-0.

Match time is set for 4 p.m. with the winner being rewarded with a trip to Sturgeon Bay to battle the Clippers.

Storm football battles Peshtigo in finale

The Kewaunee football team will have a final tune-up before the playoffs as they prepare for their home matchup against Peshtigo.

The Storm lost their first regular season matchup in two years last week in a thrilling 19-14 game against Southern Door. Mitchell Thompson threw for 177 yards and two scores, but their rushing attack was held to just 32 yards on 22 carries in the loss.

The Bulldogs have struggled all season to score points, scoring one touchdown or less in seven of their eight games. They were shut out by Bonduel 48-0 last week after registering their only win of the season the week before against Marinette.

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.

Kewaunee volleyball travels to Oconto

The Kewaunee volleyball team is trying to end its regular season on a high note when it travels to Oconto on Tuesday.

The Storm earned its lone victory of the season over the weekend at the Oconto Falls  Invite. It was swept by Freedom, Oconto Falls, Peshtigo, and Denmark twice, but a 2-1 win over Menasha made the trip worth the squeeze.

The Blue Devils have not fared much better this year, going 6-26 a year removed from playing in a state semifinal at the Resch Center. They have split their last two matches, beating Peshtigo and losing to NEW Lutheran last week.

The first serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Storm soccer chasing win at home vs. Peshtigo

The Kewaunee soccer team is trying to build off its first win of the season last week when they host Peshtigo on Tuesday.

Before their 6-0 loss to NEW Lutheran last Tuesday, they won their first game since August 2021 with a 3-0 win over Washington Island. They gave Peshtigo a run for their money earlier this season, posting one of their higher goal totals of the season in a 5-3 defeat.

The Bulldogs picked up a close win over Algoma last week 3-2, That snapped a four-match losing streak that saw them get outscored 25-2.

The first kick is scheduled for 4 p.m.

Kewaunee travels to Southern Door for Packerland battle

The Kewaunee Storm have not been tested by any teams so far this season in conference play, but will get their biggest one this Friday as they take a trip to Brussels to take on the Southern Door Eagles.

Kewaunee (7-0 Overall, 5-0 Packerland), ran all over the Sturgeon Bay Clippers last week, as they were able to go to Memorial Stadium and come back with a 55-14 win. The Storm’s offense was led by the legs of Owen Carlson and Mitchell Thompson. Thompson and Carlson both ran for two touchdowns each, and put the game out of reach of the Clippers early. Kewaunee has scored 40 points in each of their Packerland conference games and have been bulldozing through teams. The Storm have also played their fair share of defense as well, led by Brayden Obry and Demardo Echols. Kewaunee has outscored their Packerland conference opponents 249-48 so far this season.

Southern Door (7-0 Overall, 5-0 Packerland), comes into this game off of another shutout, this time on the road as they took down the Oconto Blue Devils 35-0. The Eagles starting defense has only allowed 6 points this entire season, which came against the Mishicot Indians when Logan Marquardt was able to connect with Adam Backus for a 20 yard touchdown. Southern Door has outscored its packerland conference opponents by a score of 157-12 so far. The defense has led this team, but so has its running game, led by Junior Zack Lynch. Lynch has put up 840 yards and 13 touchdowns this year, which has complimented Sophomore Quarterback Drew Daoust well, who has thrown for 793 yards and 11 touchdowns. The Eagles have not faced a test like the Storm however, and will look to get past the two blowout losses of 33-0 and 39-0 last season early.

We will see what happens when the immovable object of the Southern Door Eagles defense meets the unstoppable force of the Kewaunee Storm’s offense. The battle in Brussels will be set up for a good one. The kickoff is set for 7:00 P.M.

Kewaunee takes on Peshtigo in Packerland volleyball

The Kewaunee Storm will welcome in the Peshtigo Bulldogs for a volleyball match Thursday night.

Kewaunee (0-6 Packerland, 0-16 Overall), is still looking to add a win in that column. The Storm were recently swept by the Sevastopol Pioneers, with the final scores of each set being 25-6, 25-14, and 25-13. Kewaunee will face another tough opponent in Peshtigo, as the Bulldogs are tied for second in the conference because of their total games played in conference.

Peshtigo (4-2 Packerland, 14-10 Overall), is coming off of a 5 set heartbreaking loss to the NEW Lutheran/Providence Academy Blazers on Tuesday night. That loss set a tie in the Packerland conference between 3 teams, with the second place tiebreaker being all teams who have played less games than the first place teams. 5 teams in the Packerland conference have two losses, which could cause a fun last two games of the regular season.

The match from Kewaunee will start at 7:00 P.M.

Kewaunee hosts Vikineers in Packerland conference soccer

The Kewaunee Storm will welcome in their conference foe from the north as the Gibraltar/Sevastopol Vikineers take on the Storm.

Kewaunee (0-7 Packerland, 1-11 Overall), finally got on the winning side of things as they took down Washington Island in a non-conference match 3-0. The winning ways would not last however, as they would be defeated by the Blazers of NEW Lutheran/Providence Academy 6-0. The win for Kewaunee was big, as it was their first win since the matchup with Green Bay West dating all the way back to last season. The Storm can build off of that win by playing spoiler to the Vikineers.

Gibraltar/Sevastopol (5-1-1 Packerland, 5-7-2 Overall), has struggled of late, only winning one match of the last 5 that they have played. The one win, came in a 2-1 win over the 2-8 Peshtigo Bulldogs. The Vikineers will look to get right potentially against the Storm.

The match is set to start at 4:00 in Kewaunee.

Kewaunee takes trip to Green Bay for soccer match against Blazers

The Kewaunee Storm soccer team will look to get its first win on the board as they travel to Green Bay NEW Lutheran/Providence Academy Tuesday afternoon.

Kewaunee (0-6 Packerland, 0-10 Overall), is coming off of a loss to Sturgeon Bay 8-0, where they did not finish the game, as it was called in the 63rd minute after the Clippers took their 8 goal lead. A matchup with the Blazers will be a tough one, as NEW is listed as 3rd in Packerland conference standings.

Green Bay NEW Lutheran/Providence Academy (3-1-2 Packerland, 9-6-3 Overall), has had an up and down season so far this year, starting off strong, fading out during the middle of the season, and now getting back into the similar ways as they opened the season. The Blazers are coming off of a 6-0 win over the Peshtigo Bulldogs, and will look to keep their winning ways going against the Storm on Tuesday.

The two teams are scheduled to play at 4:00 P.M.

The Kewaunee soccer team will look to get some confidence on Monday when they welcome Washington Island for a friendly.

The Storm has been playing some of its best soccer as of late despite remaining winless on the season. They were mercy-ruled in the 63rd minute of their 8-0 loss to Sturgeon Bay their last time out, but the Storm has scored 11 goals in their last five matches.

The Bucks have primarily been playing JV soccer teams around the peninsula, but they have still been able to compile a 5-1-1 record. They split a pair of matches in a JV quadrangular hosted by Sturgeon Bay their last time out, including a 7-0 over Golda Meir.
