Storms advances past Raiders on U-1021

The Kewaunee football team stormed out to a 24-0 lead and did not look back in its 27-13 triumph over Kiel Friday night.

After Maddix Mueller got the Storm on the scoreboard with a mid-range field goal on their opening drive, the two teams traded scoreless possession until the opening minutes of the second quarter when Tyler VanGoethem scored the first touchdown to make it 10-0. After forcing the Raiders to punt, the Storm took advantage of a short field to make it 17-0 on a short rush by Jesse Morales-Hernandez.

The Storm evened things up in the interception department when Brayden Obry caught a tipped pass from Raiders quarterback Connor Faust. A few plays later, quarterback Mitchell Thompson was able to tack on another touchdown with a back-shoulder throw to Caleb Schaller to make it 24-0 at halftime.

The Raiders' defense stiffened up after the break and their offense was able to sustain drives. They still would not score points until their first drive of the fourth quarter when Faust connected with Charles Freis with their first of two long touchdown passes. A Mueller field goal midway through the fourth quarter was all the Storm was able to register in the second half.

The Storm improved to 10-1 on the season, earning their second win against Kiel on the season. They will now travel to get their first win in two tries in Brussels when they travel to face Southern Door next Friday night. The Eagles exploded for points in the second quarter en route to a 34-7 victory over Chilton. The Storm lost their first meeting against the Eagles in Brussels earlier this season 19-4. The rematch will be broadcast on U-1021 and NEWRadioSportsNetwork.com.
