Storm cruise past Clippers on 104.1 WRLU

It was a happy homecoming for Kewaunee, as the Storm rolled Sturgeon Bay 55-0 as heard on 104.1 WRLU.

Kewaunee won the coin toss and, in just three plays, found the end zone as Waylon Delain carried from 4 yards out.  Blake Temme’s point after was good and put the Storm up 7-0. Kewaunee’s defense was exceptional, allowing just one first down in the first half, forcing three-and-out after three-and-out.  On Sturgeon Bay’s first punt attempt, a low snap led to a fake punt attempt that Connor Kilgore intercepted.  Kilgore returned the interception for a touchdown, but was called back due to a penalty. Kewaunee would find the endzone in just a couple of plays as Brett Paulsen found Alec Carlson for a 9-yard touchdown. Temme put another kick through the uprights to increase the lead to 14-0. Another Clippers three-and-out gave the Storm the ball quickly, and Kewaunee scored quickly, as Paulsen took a quarterback keeper for 30 yards and a score. The PAT was good, increasing the lead to 21-0. After the ensuing kickoff, Sturgeon Bay’s opening play was a Trygg Stuth pass that Diesel Bosdeck intercepted. Bosdeck found the endzone on Kewaunee’s first play of the drive, as Paulsen launched a pass to the endzone, suitable for a 37-yard touchdown.  Another drive for the Clippers resulted in a 3-and-out, and the punt pinned the Storm back to their own 21.  Kewaunee took just three plays to score, as Kaden Koss rushed for a 1-yard touchdown, followed by a Temme kick to put the Storm up 35-0 late in the first quarter.

Sturgeon Bay ended the opening quarter with the ball, and with the start of the 2nd quarter, brought a running clock for the remainder of the ballgame.  The Storm defense forced another punting situation, which the Clippers tried another fake, but were stopped by Kewaunee’s defense.  Sturgeon Bay’s defense held the Storm out of the endzone for the only time in the game, forcing a turnover on downs by Kewaunee’s reserves.  This time, the Storm defense forced another turnover, intercepting Stuth by Tucker DeFresne. A pair of penalties backed the Storm up, but Kewaunee found the endzone as Bosdeck connected with Mason Kovacs for a 23-yard touchdown pass.  The kick was good, putting Kewaunee up 42-0, which the Storm took into halftime.

Sturgeon Bay got a first down on the opening drive of the half, but were forced to another turnover on downs. Temme took Kewaunee’s opening play of the half to the endzone for a 53-yard touchdown, with another good PAT kick building the lead to 49-0.  Kewaunee would score one more time, with a 12-yard carry by Drew Vaughn, capping off scoring at 55-0.   Sturgeon Bay offense put together its best drive of the game on its final drive, marching down the field, but was turned away on 4th down at the Kewaunee 9-yard line.  With the running clock, the Storm didn’t need to snap the ball to run out the clock.

Kewaunee moves to 5-1 on the season and undefeated in Packerland play. Sturgeon Bay falls to 0-6. Next week, Kewaunee hosts Southern Door on U-102.1, and Sturgeon Bay travels to Mishicot.

Storm's Miller secures fifth win at Bremser Invitational

Kewaunee's Hannah Miller has been on top of the podium at the end of a cross-country race this season, this time winning the Jim Bremser Invitational in Mishicot.

Miller's 5K time of 18:49 was her second finish under 19 minutes and her second-fastest time of the campaign. Here efforts were good enough to lead the Storm to a small school division title, edging Southern Door 76-87. Noelle Kout also finished in the top 10.

On the boys' side, Gage Vlies broke the 20-minute barrier to lead the Storm with a 35th-place finish.

Kewaunee looking for homecoming win on 104.1 WRLU

The Kewaunee Storm will be looking to remain undefeated in Packerland Conference play when it hosts Sturgeon Bay for its homecoming game on 104.1 WRLU.

Kewaunee has won four straight, including a 58-30 beatdown of Mishicot last Friday.  Brett Paulsen threw for 294 yards and four touchdowns, adding 89 rushing yards and a score.  Waylon Delain also rushed for 183 yards and three touchdowns in the victory.

In a recent interview with Kewaunee head coach Randy Charles, he talked about how Homecoming week is a chance to honor past generations and recognize alumni, specifically celebrating the 15th anniversary of the 2010 state championship team and the 40th anniversary of the class of 1985. Randy Charles also emphasized the importance of staying focused on their jobs despite Homecoming distractions.

Across the sideline, the Sturgeon Bay Clippers will look to play spoiler in the festivities. Sturgeon Bay has struggled this season, coming in with a 0-5 record and having lost last week to Oconto by a score of 36-0.

Eric Fischer will cover the game on 104.1 WRLU and the NEW Radio Sports Network, with a pregame show at 6:45 and kickoff at 7 p.m.

Storm offense rolls past Mishicot in 58–30 victory

The Kewaunee Storm extended their win streak to four on Friday night, rolling past Mishicot 58-30 to improve to 4-1 on the season. Quarterback Brett Paulsen was at the center of the offensive outburst, throwing five touchdown passes and adding a rushing score as the Storm piled up points from the opening drive.

Paulsen found Dane Harrell, Waylon Delain, and Diesel Bosdeck for first-quarter touchdowns, giving Kewaunee a 21-6 lead after one.

Mishicot battled back behind quarterback Ben Backus, who connected with Gabriel Kunz on a pair of long touchdowns and Camden Fick in the end zone. The Indians also got a defensive spark when a screen pass was fumbled and scooped up by Brylee Garcia for a touchdown, trimming the deficit to 28-22 at halftime. Kewaunee nearly struck again before the break, but an interception at the Mishicot 3-yard line kept things close.

The Storm pulled away in the second half. A fumble recovery by Garrett Lefevre set up a Paulsen rushing touchdown to open the third quarter. From there the ground game and Paulsen’s arm controlled the action, with Delain adding a rushing touchdown and Paulsen finding Alec Carlson and Bosdeck for more scores.

Backus continued to make plays for Mishicot, highlighted by a 65-yard strike to Kunz, but the Storm defense delivered when it mattered. Connor Kilgore intercepted a pass after pressure from Blake Bortolini, and Paulsen added a pick of his own in the fourth quarter to slam the door.

Kewaunee’s explosive offense and timely takeaways proved too much for Mishicot, and the Storm’s winning streak reached four games.

The Storm plays Sturgeon Bay next week. The game will be carried on 104.1 WRLU beginning at 6:45 p.m. with the pregame show, followed by the kickoff at 7 p.m.

Storm Football Set to Defend Home Turf Against Mishicot

The Kewaunee Storm football team is set to defend its home turf this Friday in a pivotal matchup against the Mishicot Indians. Both teams enter the week with impressive 3-1 records. The Storm are eager to maintain the winning momentum they gained last week with a hard-fought 14-7 victory over Bonduel. The game saw a dominant performance from running back Brett Paulsen. Paulsen was instrumental in the Storm's offensive output, personally accounting for 12 of the team's 14 points with two powerful rushing touchdowns.

In a recent interview, Storm head coach Randy Charles shared his enthusiasm for the upcoming match-up, highlighting the opportunity to face another high-caliber opponent. Charles emphasized the importance of containing Mischicot’s run game and proactively preventing any explosive plays, which he believes will be crucial for securing victory. Beyond the physical aspects, Coach Charles expressed profound pride in his players' dedication and commitment to hard work. He particularly noted the significant improvement in player performance since last year, a development he says is something that a coach loves to see.

    Kick-off at 7:00 PM

Kewaunee wins conference showdown against Bonduel

The Kewaunee Storm (3-1) won a hard-fought Packerland Conference battle over Bonduel (2-2), pulling out a tight 14-7 victory Friday night.

The matchup was expected to be tight with both teams having high expectations to win the conference, and it lived up to the noise. Points were at a premium throughout, with senior quarterback Brett Paulsen providing both of Kewaunee’s touchdowns on the ground, continuing to be a scoring threat both through the air and on the ground.

The defining play came late in the fourth quarter when the Storm converted a fake punt at their own 26-yard line, with Paulsen picking up the first down to help seal the win.

"It's always good to get a win, home opener, a good conference battle," head coach Randy Charles said postgame. "Got to give props to Bonduel, that's a heck of a football club and they grinded to the end. They pushed us to our limits. That's a good ball club we just beat there" (Fox 11).

The win marks Kewaunee’s third straight after narrowly dropping its season opener and also ends Bonduel’s 11-game conference winning streak.

With the victory, Kewaunee remains tied atop the Packerland with Mishicot and Marinette at 2-0 in conference play. The Storm will look to extend their streak next Friday when they host Mishicot at 7 p.m.

Kewaunee, Luxemburg-Casco race in Manitowoc

Kewaunee’s and Luxemburg-Casco’s cross-country teams are running through the weekend, traveling to Lincoln Park in Manitowoc. They will face other schools such as Denmark, Howards Grove, Manitowoc Lutheran, Pulaski, Random Lake, St. Mary’s Springs Academy, Two Rivers, and Valders. The first race begins at 9:00 AM.

Kewaunee Football Storms Past Oconto

The Kewaunee Storm kept their momentum rolling Friday night, following up last week’s bounce-back win over Brillion with a dominant 40-6 victory over Oconto.

It was all Storm from the start. After receiving the opening kickoff, Kewaunee marched down the field, converting a key 4th-and-5 before senior quarterback Brett Paulsen capped the drive with the first of many touchdowns for the purple and gold.

From there, Oconto struggled to find any rhythm against Kewaunee’s defense, while the Storm continued to pile on. Paulsen added three first-half rushing touchdowns and connected with fellow senior Connor Kilgore for another through the air, giving Kewaunee a commanding 26-0 lead at the break.

The second half belonged to the defense. The Storm forced three interceptions, including a pick-six from Paulsen on the opening drive after halftime. It marked the second straight week Kewaunee has held its opponent to a score or less.

Paulsen added one more touchdown late before Oconto finally broke through with a consolation score in the fourth. Baylor Elliott’s interception of quarterback Helnore in the final seconds sealed the win as Kewaunee moved to 2-1.

The Storm’s confidence continues to grow as they dive deeper into the season.

Storm volleyball sweeps Vikings

In Kewaunee’s 8th Girls Varsity Volleyball game of the season, they hosted their annual youth night and faced Gibraltar. With a dominant home performance, they beat Gibraltar 3-0 and look to keep this momentum going into the second half of the season. Gibraltar fought hard, keeping each set within 8 points. Jr. Isla Fagundes and Fr. Azucena Jáuregui each had one serving ace to round out the night.
